See to me.. the reason why most people don't volley well is we were taught to be "block" but look federer volley, i don't see him stopping the racket... see best way to learn volley is learn how to slice both forehand and backhand from baseline. you get volley motion easily.. and look his racket angle does not change when he swing down.. and also i believe that teaching volley straight is non sense.. look federer again, i see him hitting down so he can get back spin
Beginners are correctly taught the block volley because they first learn when they are close to the net. Federer's hitting more advanced volleys from the service line which requires more of a take back and follow through like you said.
It's actually the exact opposite of what you think. I asked the question because the shirt surprisingly doesn't look like it's from Nike. I don't see "Nike" or the Nike swoosh anywhere on it, just like FYB's videos of Federer practicing at BNP with a black shirt that says "for life" many times on it. Everything else he's wearing is from Nike except for the Rolex watch of course.
@buku1234 because anybody can hit a volley like Roger Federer, but the difference between him and the rest, is that he can make those volleys 98/100, while most will make 70/100. and those mistakes come mostly from mental lapses, rather than bad technique.
Not only that but notice how he "across" the ball. It's not a linear swing. Good points!
Best volleyer out there these days.
It's like poetry in motion.
four minutes of pure volleys :o
sick

You could see Clijsters tryin to scope out Rogers technique there.
what brand of shirt is he wearing?
nice shoes
Nike, probably the newest collection. Maybe you don't know this but Nike is one of his many many sponsors.
i got the feeling that the people in kim's court is looking at roger... that's gotta hurt a little
actually kim herself looked at him at 2:46
Volleys are hit with shoulder socket motion. Chop down using the shoulder
@evilmunki54 That forehand is definately clisjters
omg i think thats cool too. ut always happens. wheverver someone is on a practice court on the next courts it would be like rafa novak roddick

@bugabutu in slow motion!! :o
if you could copy Roger's forehand technique, why don't you become Roger then?
@wjsvalderrama uh. ok.
