When I took him to an actual gym it was easier for him to pick up on what his coach was teaching him. Because he had been taught that there's more than one waynto do thing, he ended up with more variations from striking, defense to footwork as well.

Your chan is insane man, so nice to give free content with that insane quality. I'm 30 yo, starting Kick-boxing/muay thay since few month and i want to do my first fight (light) soon, so i'm watching all your vid, this is so helpfull
I actually have initiated a combination with a body cross in my first fight a month ago. I’ve always believed in use of ‘breaking the rule’ when it’s highly possible. Been drilling that for ages on the heavy bag.
Left to left or right to right I use body jab after high jab or feint hi, and I like to use my rear hand to check opponents lead hand or cover vision to distract as I get little closer and actually cocking my lead arm. I can use it to set up lead hook as well. Body cross I like to use opposite stance right vs left. I use lead hand to check hand or cover vision and a lot of time throw a quick jab or back fist to distract to set up body cross. And I’ll mix it up use lead round house low outside calf to set up cross to face. I’ll use lead foot jab to lead leg and then jab hook cross/jab cross hook and sneak in cross to body as well
4:53 Brandon Moreno put a stamp on the rivalry with Figueiredo with this. He usually throws the hook with the thumb up, but this time he turned it and the thumb went straight into the eye
I find it interesting that my karate Sensei taught me all of these as well (more modified for the jab lead hook to the head, instead jab to shoulder or chest) for tournaments.
My boxing coach was just telling me the other day to bring my hand back fully on the double jab 🤣 one thing I have noticed I am really bad at is capitalising on opportunities when I've made them, especially with the double jab because I have success Landing it fairly consistently but never land any follow up after
@@user-qv4fp9vm8u kind of, I've used it to cover up the other person's gloves before when going into a long gaurd, But recently now I've gone back to boxing I'm realising a bunch of the stuff that I do for training in MMA is not anywhere near as good as I thought, so I am re learning how to use my jab more effectively instead of just using it to try push people back against the cage wall
I'm really going to try the body punches 💪🏻 I'm a 5.2 female Muay Thai "fighter" and I only train with taller guys and I can't reach the head so thank you for giving me the idea of going for the body. Could you maybe do a video on feet movements because I'm just so slow and get punched all over I don't think of getting out of the way... I do Muay Thai so I don't know if you can help. Anyway great video as always 💪🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 and happy New year
@Andrew hi Andrew thank you for your message. I try to go under their arm reach yes as I can't find a solution to punch the head of those giants 😁. I also do a lot of low kick to try to weaken they stands 🤣. It's just that I'm standing there like a statue and I get punched to the head and I don't have any reaction to move away it's very frustrating. My feet are like stones 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️.
I have always learned to only draw back halfway on the double jab. Never heard of it being taught to bring the first one back to your face. Plus if you step with the 2nd jab, there will be more power
I think another one that could be in this list is that “reloading” the hip is bad because of telegraphs. A lot of good pressure fighters seem to reload the right and/or left side to double up on power shots and with punches being tenths if a second it seems to be completely fine
We always say that, don't reload because the other sees, don't switch kick the back middle kick, because it shows... And then you see people doing it all the time and their opponents don't react to those tells on time. It's all about speed, plus tiredness and fight emotion at the moment
Hi Gabriel I love this video :) but i have one question. At 5:45 the punch with knuckles down. IMO that punch is more like an overhand left ? or something in between a straight punch and a hook...or ?
Make q short video on how to get the perfect technique of lead hook down, my hook feels weak because I'm new, can't really fix things because I'm on my own
I wonder if its a good idea to block on the opposite side of the face if your other arm is busy striking and the other is striking on that side, lets say with an overhand.
I wonder if you rotate your knuckles due to your karate training, which teaches to rotate the hand into your opponent's body when it connects. Once you try to hit somebody at a longer range this happens automatically.
Mayweather would do this thing where he would step forward with his back foot first to propel forward to jab his opponent with a jab to the body. Then he would switch it up by using the same footwork to set up a leaping left like Tyson would throw.
Hey Gabriel, I've been watching you for a little while now and I've been training muay thai for going on 3 years or so. Lately, when I have been attempting multiple switch kicks in a row after, around the 3rd kick my ligaments in the front of my ankle feel like they are stretching out. However it mostly happens when I make contact with my shin on the bag that my ankle feels like it's going to pop out of socket 😅. Not sure if that makes sense but do you have any video ideas about stregthening ankle ligaments/joint?
Great video @Gabriel Varga. But using elite boxers (Many, Cabelo) as examples for lowering the hands, is not very good. They don't get kicks to the head. If they fail the timming/distance, they get a clean punch. It's often worth the risk. That is why pro boxers do it all the time, but not so prevalent in Thai fighters. Artem Levin or Saenchai could be better examples to cite. Keep giving us this kind of vídeos, and even get some clips of Thai boxers in the middle of your video, demonstrating the rule breaking you are talking about. 🙏🏻
In stand up, it's too risky for the reward. It's hard enough to be in the distance to hit face elbows. Plus body elbows are kinda weird (except maybe a front/uppercut elbow to the solar plexus, that could work). What works great is elbows to the legs (and knees), when you grab a middle kick from your opponent
@@GilHighTechSilva I should also specify that the kind of elbow strikes I'm talking about are more like hooks rather than piercing strikes. I usually use them after a jab when I get close enough and then elbow the liver from the side. I do however agree that they seem quite risky, that's why I'm asking. Thanks for the feedback :)
The thumb position for the hook was always something in contention.. people spend forever arguing about it when there footwork is completely wrong . . Always found that strange
My sifu explained it to me like this: When your mom watches you clean the bathroom, you use an old toothbrush to scrub out he gunk between the tiles. When she's not looking, you wad the corner of the rag instead, and she can't tell the difference. But if you'd never learned with the toothbrush, she'd notice the dirt.
Somebody once told me that striking is feminine and grappling is masculine. Does anyone have any thoughts on this topic? Secondly they said that grappling is a more natural way of fighting for human beings and striking is not natural, which this argument made more sense than the first one but as a boxer I just think it's interesting to hear other opinions what are your thoughts? Anyway thanks for the great content as always
When I study pro boxers and MMA fighters that get KOs by upper cut, the hand always passes through the mid thigh. This is taught as absolutely "wrong", but it's a very fast past through position that can only be seen in slow motion and freezing the video. In fact the best upper hooks use a circular motion that passes through the thigh.
You should look into other techniques.. I throw a straight jab and instead of pulling the fist back, I do a quick circular motion with my arm and snap that jab right back into place very quickly as a backfist.. Trust me lol, you don't want me to break the rules..
Believing my mom doesn't take off before I'm supposed to go work out.. I spend 20 plus years caring for her and I can't even get her to not take off when I'm supposed to go train. I just got to skate for a whole ten minutes yay!!! I COULD KNOCK OUT TYSON RIGHT NOW!!! I wanna loose weight, she won't let me.. I want to train, she takes off..
