I love all live-action versions of Shang Tsung: Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, Bruce Locke and Chin Han. Each of them was slightly different, but they all were good. 🖤🖤🖤

Sean Connery as James Bond. Christopher Reeve as Superman. Performances so iconic that others pale in comparison. Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa played Shang Tsung to perfection. They should have brought him back to play “old man” Shang Tsung

Everybody in the 90s thought nobody could take the Joker from Jack Nicholson, later in the 2000s everybody thought no actor could play the Joker other than Heath Ledger, now the same thing happens with Joaquin Phoenix. Honestly. I think Chin Han Shang was great, but wasn't utilized all that well. But had he been the central villain instead of Sub Zero he would've been terrifying
If we were just referring to his performance in 1995 I would say that their portrayals are pretty close in quality. Chin Han might not have the gravelly voice that Cary has, but he's arguably a lot better at kung fu choreography, and it's a shame that we only saw him relying on magic/VFX instead of his most awesome asset. That being said, I don't think he'll ever surpass Cary's performance in MK11, since he's playing the character straight and Cary was almost comedic in his smugness. It's always fun when the actor pulls a Palpatine and actually has a lot of fun with his character.
The most disappointing part of the movie was not taking a heavy voiced person to play raiden, when have always imagined raiden as a heavy voiced tall 6-7 feet man, thunder god raiden was the biggest disappointment of mortal kombat.

This movie got hate for no reason. A bunch of grown ass men with the "the original was better!" crap even though thr original was horrible. This remake was great. The casting was great. They made some mistakes but what movie doesn't? Thoroughly enjoyable movie.
I'm sorry but this actor just didn't do it for me as Shang Tsung. He doesn't have the presence of the original Shang Tsung. Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa as the original Shang Tsung didn't even have to say a single word. His presence alone was intimidating enough. He could just stand there and you would definitely know that you were in the presence of Shang Tsung and you wouldn't want to mess with him. When raiden told the fighters in the original mortal kombat film that Shang Tsung was far more dangerous than Goro, that's scary. You would think a tall four armed half man half dragon monster was dangerous enough but no.

The trouble is, except for the soul steal, they really didn't use any of Shang's powers; even his signature shapeshifting. I dig Chin has Shang, but he was hobbled by a campy script, and a story that centered on Cole and Sub Zero.

@@F-m.a Not an official tournament yet. If it was official, then Shang wouldn't have been allowed to suck out Kung Lao's soul like that. He had Nitara fight Kung Lao, Kung Lao won, but Shang drained his soul anyway. In an official tournament, this would be a violation of the rules of Mortal Kombat and would be punished by the Elder Gods. You can't mess with an official win. But because this was not an official tournament yet, he can pretty much do whatever he wants as long as it stays mostly under the radar. He can't actively try to merge Earthrealm with Outworld or anything like that, but little incursions like this are not really against the rules.

I used to think that Russian films are disgusting, now, having seen this, I realized that the bottom has not yet been broken. The creators of Mortal Kombat have done well. And they created the most real godlessness.
I really liked this movie and can't wait to see a next one but dang those actors playing Shang Tsung and Lord Raiden were terrible, if they are indeed also in the next MK movie then they need to step up their game.
The Raiden sucks. The worst one can imagine. Not even Shang Tsun can kill all defenders (UNPROTECTED!!!!) 9 F-ING TIMES IN A ROW. But even in the last combat he just let Kung Lao be killed just like that. 0 charizma. Even in Annihilation Raiden was part of the team. He cared about the teammates.
They did Kung Lao soo dirty in this movie. He literally had the best scene then get's deleted moment's later... Then at the end Raiden just zap's him away to outworld. Why didn't just do that first off :(
I think when Sub-Zero took off his blue jacket and remained in black at the end of fight with Scorpion and Cole, he (or scenarists) foreshadowed his comeback as Noob Saibot.

1. Because he can't interfere in the tournament

@@F-m.a Not an official tournament yet. If it was official, then Shang wouldn't have been allowed to suck out Kung Lao's soul like that. He had Nitara fight Kung Lao, Kung Lao won, but Shang drained his soul anyway. In an official tournament, this would be a violation of the rules of Mortal Kombat and would be punished by the Elder Gods. You can't mess with an official win.
But because this was not an official tournament yet, he can pretty much do whatever he wants as long as it stays mostly under the radar. He can't actively try to merge Earthrealm with Outworld or anything like that, but little incursions like this are not really against the rules.

I really liked this movie and can't wait to see a next one but dang those actors playing Shang Tsung and Lord Raiden were terrible, if they are indeed also in the next MK movie then they need to step up their game.

The Raiden sucks. The worst one can imagine. Not even Shang Tsun can kill all defenders (UNPROTECTED!!!!) 9 F-ING TIMES IN A ROW. But even in the last combat he just let Kung Lao be killed just like that. 0 charizma. Even in Annihilation Raiden was part of the team. He cared about the teammates.

They did Kung Lao soo dirty in this movie. He literally had the best scene then get's deleted moment's later... Then at the end Raiden just zap's him away to outworld. Why didn't just do that first off :(
