Wow! That opening shot with the new fence and the lovely view down the back hill, with the beautiful trees, was just stunning!!!! Your garden is just looking so pretty this Spring.❤
Major bummer on the boxwoods! Have you thought about an arborvitae hedge with Anna's Magic Ball or Tater Tot arbs that stay small and globe shaped? Plus they love wet spots. Can't wait to see what you do in the end!
Oh, so sad about your boxwoods! What a heartbreaking tasks that was. 🥲 Great idea to cut the blooms on the lung wart for the Powderly mildew. Thanks I will cut mine blooms back today!
I wish my heucheras got big enough to need a cut back like yours. Usually they look good the first year then quickly get smaller and smaller each season until they're barely there.
I'm sorry for the loss of your boxwoods, bushes can be a huge expense to replace. I don't currently have any bushes besides my hydrangeas and 3 of the candy corn spirea they are still little at this point.
so sorry about your boxwoods. I had a heartbreak this year with an 8 year old rose of sharon standard. I had three main branches and some of the branches on one of them were dead. The base of them felt almost squshy and wet and the bark was easily peeling, I Have no idea what went wrong. If it suffered damage from some high winds from a storm? So I had to take the whole branch off. Now almost a 1/4 of it is gone and it is lopsided and does not have the beautiful rounded vase shape as it did. ahh gardening never easy never a dull moment
Soleil, I'm sorry you and hubby are dealing with Boxwood Blight. I haven't heard of it being in my area, and I hope it isn't because I also love my boxwoods.
Sorry to see the loss of your beautiful shrubs; I love the classic symmetry of boxwood. That’s the only problem with a uniform, homogenous border or hedge - when one plant succumbs to disease, they all become susceptible. I’ve been working to diversify my arborvitae border just for that reason, after losing two large specimens. Hope you find some nice replacement plants! 👍
Very true that’s what Hortube and impatient Gardner says too always vary your specimens! Actually your border looks cleaner without the boxwoods! Your garden is looking gorgeous!
Ugh, so sorry about your boxwoods. You mentioned that you can’t plant boxwoods there again. Is that ever, or just for a few years? Thank you for the information about the lungworts. I’m new to gardening and didn’t know about trimming them back to avoid powdery mildew .
What a shame about the boxwoods, they were doing so good. You will rebound and come up with something that works better in your garden. Good to see hubby helping out on camera, I’m sure he is a great “behind the scene” supporter as well. Thank you, Gail❤️
Replace your shrubs with the new “Better Boxwoods.” They are disease resistant. Wish we could get some of that rain. I’ve been having to do a lot of watering here in GA. ❤
I was wondering when the blight was going to hit your area. It hit us last year. Had to dig everyone out. It was a pain for sure. Sorry it happened to you.
@@Suburbanoasis Ohio! Down here all of them have been hit. The lady that has the Gardening at Douentza channel did a show on how to treat it. It seemed like it worked well. But she said it might come back again. Thanks very much for those Saturday tours. I enjoy them very much.
Boxwoods can be a nightmare. In the 1960's, they were so popular here in Pennsylvania. They were on every lawn. However, they all appeared half dead all year round. As pretty as they are, I would never plant one. Just shop from your yard, to fill in the empty space with something easy and beautiful.
That’s was so hard to watch!!! But know as a gardener some times you just have to get rid of the problem before it spreads. So sorry 😢 Love watching you in your garden.❤ I’m in zone 6 but really need to plant for zone 4. We get an average of 83” snow a year. ( Cle Elum, Washington)

Thanks for the ideas!
Oh no, those beautiful boxwoods! I just put in 10 bushes in my yard hope they are not catching that
I hope not too!!
Oh that’s too bad. Sorry about the boxwoods. Some of them looked okay. Time for something new …
Hydrangea border would be pretty. Mid sized. 🤔👩🏻🌾🌺🌿

Do you mulch them and give them sunshine!
@@Suburbanoasis They get mulch and afternoon sun. Not much morning sun though.

Ugh. Gut wrenching. So sorry.
As long as it doesn't get all the others I will be happy!
Sorry you lost your boxwoods . I love your gardens. Take care.😊
Thank you! You too!
Your gardens look so fresh and pretty. That darn boxwood blight !! I'M hoping mine don't get hit with it . Sorry that you lost yours.

Good question because I was wondering the same thing .
For at least several years according to what I researched.

I haven't seen any better boxwood here yet, but I am probably going to take my time deciding what to do there, unless something catches my eye!
Our Lowe’s here in Madison MS has them. Small ones for $12.99.
So happy that you show and explain best tips for keeping perennials looking good all season.
Sad to see those boxwood go.
I have a serious Boxwood Blight problem. It's so frustrating!
Oh no!!
It sure made me sad to watch you have to dig up the box woods. I know you will find something lovely to fill in your gorgeous property.
Something new will be found...
Tough job

What region are you in? I am hoping getting rid of these will prevent the other ones, but time will tell.
