      How often do we water our cyclamen plant? If the leaves turn yellow like we saw on the video, do we cut them off?

    • @EdenMakers
      @EdenMakers  4 года назад

      @@lieslgrobler4233 Hi! So they like to be watered from the bottom, since you do not want to get the stem or leaves wet. To bottom water, fill the plant tray or cache pot, and allow the soil to soak it up through the holes in the bottom of the container.
      Once the soil is wet, dump out any water that’s left in the tray, and allow the excess to drain completely from the pot. Never allow the plant to sit in water for an extended period of time.
      Cyclamens like to have their soil kept evenly moist during their active growing period. Be careful though, consistent overwatering will kill them!
      Allow it to dry slightly between waterings, but don’t let it to dry out completely. Check the soil each time, and only add water if it feels dry to the touch.
      Don't cut them off, Yellowing usually means improper watering, so adjust how to water them :D

    @edenmakers thank you for such an informative video, I really adore cycleman but was never able to keep them alive, I bought another one for morher's day & made sure to do some research, so I can gain knowledge of how to care for my plant. That's how I came across your video. I came across a blog that suggested watering the plant by placing it in a saucer of water. What is your advice on that & should I fertilize it? Also do you have knowledge of orchids? Thanks a lot in advance. God bless you richly! 🙏🙏

    • @EdenMakers
      @EdenMakers  4 года назад +2

      Hi Maxine, thanks for watching. Cyclamen should be kept moist by watering in a tray and allowing the roots to take up the water rather than watering from above the plant which can lead to rotting. Fertilize every 3-4 for weeks. Cyclamen may benefit from a complete houseplant fertilizer with added iron. To promote and prolong blooms, feed cyclamen plants with a fertilizer high in phosphorus, like 4-20-4, at the beginning of winter just as blooms start to develop. I have several orchid videos here on my youtube channel! I hope you will look them up and view them. Let me know if you have any further questions.

    Awesome. Its going into summer here now in Australia so I expect it will drop of its blooms and leaves... correct in saying to completely leave it alone during summer in the cool place in basement WITHOUT watering? Its really OK to NOT water it for the whole of summer? Should I look at repotting in a bigger pot if it starts to look crowded as well? Cool plant and thanks for the clip.

    • @EdenMakers
      @EdenMakers  5 лет назад +1

      Cyclamen is a cool season plant, so it will go dormant in hot weather. Don't completely allow it to become parched just give it minimal water during hot summer. Its ok in the basement, but water it infrequently so it doesn't become parched. No need to repot it until you bring it out again. Hope that helps.

    I just bought one to keep in my kitchen window in front of the sink as it looks so pretty, but now that I've learned it likes it cool, will have to move it to the basement:-( I also learned elsewhere, that these plants preferred to be watered from the bottom by putting water in a tray and letting the plant uptake, but not letting it sit in the water when after it's finished "drinking".

At this point, can I remove all the dead leaves, and replant the bulbs in smaller pots? When planting bulbs do I need to cut out most of the roots from the old plant? Thanks and I look forward to your advice. Stay safe

      Hi Roberta, thanks for watching. Your cyclamen not blooming probably is because they have entered dormancy. It should be repotted every two years. You can repot while the plant is dormant, in the summer, with fresh soil and a slightly larger pot. Here is some instructions for you. Let me know if you have any further questions! My cyclamen plant LOVES water. If I don't water it about twice a week, it droops, and when I water it, it stands up straight. The thing is, though, the soil always feels wet, but I've learned to water it anyway. What's the story?

    • @EdenMakers

      Thanks for your question. The water pressure from watering may be optimizing the oxygen flow to the plant. Keep doing what makes your cyclamen happy!

But now I'm scared that I won't know how to take care of it properly there are no flowers on it or proof of any flowers. The leaves look pretty and healthy I don't want to see any signs that it is starting to go into a hibernation mode or anything so what should I?

    I live in Florida. My first cyclamen was so beautiful this past winter. It’s been happy on my lanai but now with the hot days it is drooping with no new blooms and a leaf yellowing. I assume it’s ready to come indoor and be dormant. How long shall I leave it dormant as we don’t have cool weather again until late October. Should I take it out of dormancy indoor then?
    Thank u.

    • @EdenMakers
      @EdenMakers  3 года назад +2

      Hi Joe, Thanks for watching! After a cyclamen blooms, it will transition slowly into a dormant state. The leaves will begin to yellow and wither. At this point, you should stop watering your plant, and allow the leaves to die back. Then place it in a cool, dry place for 8-10 weeks. You can put it in a cool room until the weather gets cooler in your area. To bring a rested plant out of dormancy in the fall, move it back into the light and resume your normal watering regime. Hope that helps answer your question.

    • @EdenMakers

      Hi Natalie, Drooping leaves on cyclamen are a common symptom of heat or cold stress. The plant also prefers bright but indirect light. Plants situated in a southern window or in a hot area of the garden may suffer and indicate their distress by drooping. Droopy cyclamen flowers occur when a plant has too much water. The fact that it is oozing might indicate too much water. Hope that helps!

    I'm in Southern Ontario and just won a cyclaman and is in full bloom right now I but think it is a too small pot ( 4" ) .Can it be repotted into a 6 or 8" pot and when is the best time to do it.

    My red cyclamen withered & the pink one is also half withered. So sad. Did i over fertilise them with urea or what? How to revitalise them??

    • @EdenMakers
      @EdenMakers  Год назад

      That's possible. When cyclamen get too much fertilizer, it can affect their ability to rebloom. another thing, after it blooms, it will go into a dormant state, which looks like it's dying, with leaves turning yellow and falling off. I have a video on their care here: ruclips.net/video/WTBAsHK26Yk/видео.html

    I bought one of these plants last week and now it's dying..im sad..wish they would survive in my home..i reported it and have it some water..then after few days it wilted and leaves were turning yellow..so I put it back in its original pot ..but the soil was not wet..i have it in my east facing windowsill but unfortunately the heater is underneath it..myabe I should move it somewhere cooler..they say you should pull out the dead stems but I tried doing that and it's hard..to get all the stem off..it just snaps off..thanks

    • @EdenMakers
      @EdenMakers  3 года назад +1

      Hi! I am sorry to hear about your cyclamen plant. Cyclamen do not tolerate excessive heat or cold so you might want to move it away from the heater. The plant also prefers bright but indirect light. Plants situated in a hot area of the garden may suffer and indicate their distress by drooping. It may have too much water. Cyclamens prefer moist soil but not soggy conditions. Make sure it is draining well and not sitting in water. They respond well to extra humidity and like to have their leaves sprayed but provide good ventilation so the leaves can dry off quickly. I hope that helps!

    So I was gifted with a mini cyclamen that was flowering. It went into dormancy and I put it in a darker cooler place till around September. I then repotted in a larger container with potting soil and watered from the bottom. Here it is November and it hasn't grown at all . Still looks dead. I just today opened the dirt and was able to try and find the bulb, which seems to be so small I'm not sure if it is dead or not...only about a 1/4 inch if that. Is it hopeless and I should just try and get a new one? Wish I could send you a photo.

    • @EdenMakers
      @EdenMakers  3 года назад +2

      Hi N Y, Droopy cyclamen flowers occur when a plant has too much water. Cyclamens prefer moist soil but not boggy conditions. Plants that are kept too wet will develop drooping leaves as well as crown rot. This results in the core of the plant being overrun by fungal disease and causes eventual plant death. It's best to let the soil get somewhat dry between waterings. When the pot feels light or the soil feels dry just below the surface, water it thoroughly and let it drain. Pour out any water left in the saucer so that the soil doesn't stay soggy. Hope that helps!

    Can we cyclamen grow by leaf ?

    • @EdenMakers
      @EdenMakers  3 года назад

      Hi Yamuna, Thanks for watching! They don't grow by cuttings, no. When you are propagating cyclamen plants, you want to use the swollen underground root called the tuber. Cyclamens reproduce via this tuber. You can propagate the plant by lifting the tuber from the soil in the fall and dividing it. Hope that helps!

    Hi, it's me again. I received a cyclamen plant 2 weeks ago. I watered the plant because the soil is dry. I noticed the plant starting to wilt 2 days ago and now they are all wilted. It is winter here. What happened to my plant? Thank you.

    • @EdenMakers
      @EdenMakers  4 года назад

      Hi Fantastica. Is the cyclamen indoors or outdoors?If your soil is not draining well, it can cause stems to wilt just as much ad dry soil.

    • @fantastica1652
      @fantastica1652 4 года назад +1

      @@EdenMakers Thank you for your reply. It is indoors in a green pot with holes.

    • @EdenMakers
      @EdenMakers  4 года назад

      @@fantastica1652 Another possibility is that cyclamen wilting can be a lack of water. To rehydrate a plant, stand the pot in a saucer of tepid water and let it soak up moisture from the base. After a couple of hours, tip out any water left in the saucer. In heated houses, wilting can also be due to high temperatures indoors.
