Yes, sad but it's true. U.S. bread, even the bread baked fresh daily in the bakeries inside of grocery stores, have dough conditioners, corn syrup, and other additives in their bread. Yuck! @Weird Yu-Gi-Oh! Kid The PISA test is only marketing. You cannot compare worldwide education quality as they do with PISA. Because education e.g. in German schools is much more problem-solving driven. In the US it's more multiple-choice-driven. In Germany we have the lowest rate of Youth unemployment and highest level of industrial quality...but we are only average at PISA. Why ? Because the PISA system does not match the skills of German students and it doesn't include the job trainee programs.

You are just lucky. Cost for a German driving license does vary a lot (from region to region, from driving school to driving school). I live in a more rural area with only 3 driving schools in close proximity. The cheapest one does offer their service for 1800 € right now (only the required minimum amound of driving hours included), while the most expensive (but also the one with the best success rate) one charges you with 2700 €.
My cousin had to pay just 1500 € in 2019 at one of the cheapest driving schools in a very big city in the north with many competetive driving schools. its not the smart driver, it is the driving system. you have to drive on the right site unless you want to take over, so you signal, pull over, pass and go to the right site again. in US you are all over the place and you cant watch every site as good as only one

    • @dnocturn84
      @dnocturn84 4 года назад +8

Absolutely true. If you would allow people in Germany to pass slower cars on every lane, driving faster than 140km/h would be impossible (among other things of course). No human driver can watch all lanes for a free lane while fast cars are appoaching to the right and left lane of you at the same time. This would result in horrible accidents.
Same goes for the rule to drive on the right most lane when possible. If every driver who is slower than you, just sticks to his favorit lane, like for example the middle lane, chances are, that you will pull a dangerous move to pass this car at some point in time, because you are annoyed of this.

    • @dnocturn84

But don't underestimate the effect of the mandatory technical check every car has to pass in an intervall of two years in Germany (Hauptuntersuchung + Abgasuntersuchung).
There are so many cars in a really bad shape on US roads. And I'm just talking about the ones that are clearly broken; things like proper working break systems aren't even visible by the look of a car. I guess there are at least 30% of US cars currently on the road, that would not be allowed to be used in Germany.

    • @nobodyisthere5633
      @nobodyisthere5633 4 года назад +5

and that is absolutely annoying in the US .... last time we really got crazy ... three lanes blocked with cars running with the exact same velocity ... and in front of them ... all lanes are free 🤔😳🥴🥴🥴
does anybody thought about moving his car to one of the right lanes ... NO ! ... WTF ... could'nt somebody of the drivers imagine, that one of the several hundred cars behint them might want to overtake ???🤔😒

    • @larsbonau4067
      @larsbonau4067 4 года назад +4

In addition to that: For the "German drivers are so smart and therefore they can drive at those speeds" -> The logic is upside down.
Because we have people who drive at really high speed, we need to be aware of any other driver in case of an emergency. When I drive here in Germany I always try to look at least two cars ahead. If the third car in front of me brakes, I take my foot from the accelerator. If I don't drive on the right lane and I see someone in my rear mirror approaching I check for a gap on the right lane and try to leave the left lane before the other car gets close.
When I am in the Netherlands: I just drive and let things happen. Cars are roughly the same speed, if you are on whatever they call their Autobahn, there are no surprises. Traffic mostly flows and it is just calm, driving Autobahn in Germany can get boring after a while because nothing really happens, driving Autobahn in the Netherlands is a challenge for your tiredness. (I imagine that driving a High Way in the USA which goes just straight for an eternity is my personal driver's nightmare.)
So, yes I am one of those "smart drivers" but not because I am somewhat special but just because I need to be that while on the Autobahn. Any American who drives on the German Autobahn for more than a few weeks will be just as "smart". There is no reason to believe that Germans are inherently better drivers.

In Germany, in urban areas at least, you can live your whole life without a license and dont miss it.

Here are 6 things a german thinks america needs:
    Universal Healthcare
    Free Education (including college/uni)
    Better Gun restriction laws
    Better trained Police
A system to save the unemployed (like Harz IV in germany)
Better laws that regulate workers rights, like 28 days of holiday a year minimum, maximum work time, empolyers having to give their employees time off if they are sick or injured, without it affecting their pay or their holiday etc.
And yes, these things would be incredibly hard to implement in the US, as a lot of people in the US think that all this costs more than it benefits you, but that is not the case. A system that helps unemployed people strengthens the economy, as poverty costs far more.
Gun restriciton laws and Universal Healthcare go well together, as with better Gunlaws this could be cheaper, as gunshoot wounds tend to cost a lot. Same with better trained police.
The wokers rights laws also strenghten the economy, as a worker that has holiday works better than one who works all year, an employee that is sick but comes to work anyway because it would harm him if he dosn't could infect the other employees, leading to more losses than he can make up for working whilst being ill, etc. Free education speeks for itself, as it evens out chances for everyone, and if the kids that live in poverty can make it to Uni and get a high paying job this also helps with a lot of problems.
Oh, and one thing germany needs back:
    You!

I think one of the reasons why germans are better drivers is, that they learn a few months and then they need to do 2 tests were you can fail easly. So in germany you rly need to be good at driving and need to learn the rules before you are allowed to drive. I think in the Us you can do a quick tests or something like this but its much shorter!
Oh and when you like Döner so much:

@C J Germans are the better drivers, there is no disputing that. A license here is much more expensive (like 1500-2000€) and harder to get AND after you get it you are on a 2 years trial, where you can easily lose it again. Like run a red light and you're done - a lot of money down the drain. This leades to people being way more cautious on the streets. In comparison it's laughably easy to get a license in the US (in most states afaik).

@C J Not bragging about good vs bad drivers ect, idiots are everywhere.
But I still think you underestimate the German drivers licence. For the category "B", which means only cars, no trailers ect, no motorcycles, no trucks, no busses, you need:
      - 14 theory lessons à 90 min in class room
      - the theory test (of cause)
      - eye test (you can pass it with glasses, but it will be registered in the licence, so you are only allowed to drive with glasses or contact lenses)
      - 7,5 h first aid course (calling emergency, CPR, stabilization position, when and how to pull off a helmet, ...)
      - praxis lessons (45 min each) (normally about 20-25 lessons), required by law are at least 12:
      - 5 on country roads
      - 4 on the autobahn
      - 3 after sunset
(double counting like "autobahn after sunset" is not allowed)
      - the praxis test, which takes place in traffic, consisting of driving in city/downtown traffic, country roads or autobahn, parking between cars (the tester decides if forward, backward or sideways), can contain stuff like emergency brakes ect.
If you do your licence with an automatic car, you are only allowed to drive automatic (so only half of the German cars).
You can do your licence tests as minor with 17, then you are only allowed to drive with a qualitifed person next to you (who must be registered before for being qualified) untill you are 18. You can only get the full licence with 18 or older (German legal age), but you are still on a probation time until you are 21 and 2 years have passed after you have done the praxis licence test.
It costs so much manly because you need to pay for all those lessons. Normally it takes 4-6 months.

Fun fact: The "Sendung mit der Maus" was originally not called thus. It was "Lach- und Sachgeschichten" first, which translates to "Stories to Smile and about Stuff". This name had a very pedagogical ring to it, and children never got the hang of the name. But because the stories were chained together with short cartoons featuring the large orange Mouse and the small blue Elephant, children were talking about the "TV show with the Mouse", the "Sendung mit der Maus". And while in the opening screen, it is still depicted as "Lach- und Sachgeschichten", it's called "Die Sendung mit der Maus" even in the programming guide. One feature is that the opening screen is played twice, first time with German commentary, and a second time with the same commentary, but in another language, narrated by a native speaker. In most cases, it features one story about how things are made, or how things work, one song or a small fairy tale, and as last segment a funny story from a series, for instance Käpt'n Blaubär (Captain Bluebear, pun with blueberry intended) telling one of his outrageously made up yarn, or Shawn the Sheep.

Yeah, we learn to drive safe and confident in germany, lol. When I was taking driving lessons, my instructor said I was too cautious and he told me to switch to the left lane and go at least 150 km/h, so I would get a feel for the car, the traffic and gain more confidence in my skills. He said too much caution would benefit accidents.

My personal 6 German things America needs:
High speed trains (and anyway a public transport system like Germany)
    Pedestrian zones in city centers
    Artificial bakeries and cafés
a diversity of restaurants like Germany has
    Health Insurances
A cycle lane network (even if Germany isn't that famous for good cycle lanes)
...of course there would be way more...

"Die Sendung mit der Maus", means "the show with the mouse", was foundet in the early 70th and isa show for children where answered a lot of daily questions with ordinary things. For example: who knows how to build a scissor? This production steps are intermittet with cartoons with the mouse and his friends. These catroons ware most starte with a silly problem and the mouse or his friends solve this with a clever solution.

7th German thing the U.S. needs is the health system. There is no way I will move to the U.S. unless I am covered the same amount as in Germany. I will never pay costs which are comparable like paying a car or house to get or stay healthy. Health should be a right in the U.S. and it is time to change to medicare for all.

About the german drivers. There are a lot of differences between german regulation in driving laws. 1. it is forbidden to pass on the right side on the autobahn and streets with more than one lane in each direction outside of towns. 2. before u can make your license u have to take lessons of theorie and praxis in a driving school. And thinks like mobile phone when u are driving is forbidden by law

Mainzelmännchen is actually a pun of Heinzelmännchen. When some cities next to the river Rhine have a lose rivalry going on about which city is the captial of carnival. Heinzelmännchen is a tale that takes place in the city of Cologne, where at night some dwarf-like minions appear and do some chores over night for the people in the story. The city of Mainz is the city where the second public broadcasting television (ZDF - Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen) has its headquarters. The ARD on the other hand (First German Public broadcasting) is a collective of regional public broadcasting stations where every state has its own station and many local studios for both TV and radio. In the early days they had comic characters for the adverstising blocks too. They went by names like "Ute, Schnute, Kasimir" or "Äffle & Pferdle".

the thing about Die Sendung mit der Maus is that they wanted to create an informative kids show, and because childrens attention spans are shorter, it is broken up by cute, funny cartoons. I think it does its job very well, and makes kids ask questions about the world. it is a place where kids get age-appropriate answers to how things work that they otherwise might not learn about. I grew up watching it and it was always the highlight on sundays :) I'm from Austria btw ^^

Mainzelmännchen are loosely based on mythical creatures from german folklore, called Heinzelmännchen. They're supposed to be helpful little gnomes or sprites that would do helpful things for a house or a workshop if you treated them well, like left food out for them etc. They were said to repair things or finish work that was left unfinished. So they are these helpful, benevolent little sprites.

The Mainzelmännchen date back to the days (1960's) when Germany only had two TV channels, ARD and ZDF. Both were actually public tv, but they were allowed to air a few minutes of commercials per day to supplement their income.

Here's my take on the driving in DE vs North America. As a Canadian living in Germany, I just went through the whole process of learning how to drive and getting my license here(passed two weeks ago!). Are there good drivers in North America, yes, but it's not the standard, and it all has to do with the learning how to drive bit. In North America, you can simply learn how to drive with a friend or family member. Here in Germany, not so. You have to go to a driving school and are only allowed to drive in public traffic with the driving school car that is equipped with a second set of pedals. Even when you go for the exam, you go with the driving school car...examiner sits in the back seat and your instructor next to you. You also have to attend mandatory theory classes, 14 x 1.5hrs, before you're allowed to take the theory exam. Learning how to drive is also done on manual transmission. You can learn on automatic, but then you get a note on your license that only allows you to drive that. You're definitely right about Americans driving more distracted...automatic cars allow for that. Not sure if you noticed, but in Germany drive-thrus are not common at all and nobody eats in their car while driving.

Even more, if someone is skeptical about something you claim and asks you where you got that from and you answer "I saw it on the Sendung mit der Maus", it counts as totally legit proof for that fact in Germany. And yes, we have Bob, the builder in German.
