How China's Thirst For 'Blood Jade' Fuels A Risky Trade In Myanmar | Risky Business

  • Myanmar’s Kachin State is believed to hold up to 90% of the world’s most valuable jade. Demand for it is growing in China, where the stone is considered sacred. But hunting for it is one of the most dangerous jobs in the world, and many end up addicted to drugs, which they say, replaces their wages. ''
We take the security of characters profiled in our documentaries very seriously. For context, Thant gave us permission to show him with just a mask on, but we took the extra precaution of blurring his face in shots where we felt like his identity could be exposed. He also gave us permission to use his common Burmese last name, but we chose to leave his full name out. We also worked very closely with our local freelancers on the ground to advise us on what we could and could not show and mention so that we wouldn't be endangering him.

I applaud that you took steps in your documentary in hiding identity however I think the steps you've taken are still insufficient. As stated by @nandinhocunha440 (one of the comments down below) and many others, you merely covered his eyes, you didn't cover his build, his clothes, his hut, or the area in which presides. Logistical constraints may have played in the part of you being unable to fully edit the video captured but you should have nonetheless given importance to his safety. Please look after him even after you extracted what you wanted from him, for his safety.

      nope.
The big chinese firms are known for good industrial working standards.
The problem with worker security in cobalt in africa are the ca 10% of the market of locally organized "artesinal" or wild mines, which none the less employ a lot of people and have scarce capital for materiel.
Thats where workers die - not the giant extraction industries where big, state-defended chinese capital tries to push down production cost per unit.
