If it was not for USFL Houston Gamblers I would of never started watching football.. I love the memories of the Gunslingers and all stuff you post about USFL... Also Read that they finally Got stuff from USFL In the Pro Football HOF...
Same here, I was tired of the NFL and their crap. When the uSFL came I started watching pro football more and more. Loved the Gamblers and Kim Kelly. The Gunslingers were a decent team at times but their owner made things so miserable for the players.
@@USFLForever I really believe the USFL would still be around if it wasn't for that. I remember a few years ago hearing the league was making a comeback but the hype has disappeared.
@@nickhill8612 I believe it would still be around to if it wasn't for mismanagement. The league was never going to comeback bc It was being run by a bunch of wanna bees.
USFL Forever I still watch the games. We didn't have cable when I was a kid so I missed a lot of them and had to rely on sports highlights. Thanks for all your hard work!
Panthers were one of the first teams to overspend. Buying 3 of the Steelers O-lineman. Spending a ton on Albert Bentley. They made a hard push for John Riggins too. The other teams I couldn’t argue. The Stars spent a lot of Kelvin Bryant Irv Eatman and William Fuller. The Bandits had a couple of highly priced stars Gary Anderson and Mike Butler and had Cris Collinsworth signed up for 1985. He wasn’t cheap. They made a hard push for Joe Theismann. It seemed the poorer teams of the USFL followed the Dixon plan. Teams like the Outlaws Gold Gunslingers Federals Maulers etc etc and they all sucked on the field.
In today's market being what the NFL is doing with being woke and kneeling for the National Anthem if someone could revive and restart the USFL I think that the USFL could give the NFL more then a run for their money I think they could beat the NFL and be a very successful league.
I mean I really can't say but the USFL was on a death spiral regardless of if Trump didn't sue the NFL or not. The league as a whole had some stable franchises but it over-extended itself after the first year and by then it was on a crash course with bankruptcy because they showed largely no desire to change their ways to create a long-term product after straying from the original Dixon Plan. Hell look at the San Antonio Gunslingers for crying out loud--you can't expect your league to be successful competitors to the NFL with teams like that existing. The league folded after three years but I think they realistically would've probably lasted another two or three years. Letting Trump get involved only quickened their own demise.
The original plan was to bring in stable owners who KNEW they would lose money for a number of years but slowly build there way up. Part of the way they intended to do this was a strict salary cap that would control spending. That got shot out of the water when the New Jersey Generals(pre Trump ownership FWIW) signed Herschel Walker. It got even worse the next year when the Los Angeles Express started signing players to expensive contracts left and right with an owner who was an outright fraud. Trump was there by this time and also started signing players to expensive contracts. The big difference between the Generals and Express was the Generals WERE properly capitalized and had money to actually pay players.

It's a shame greed and poor management caused this league to fail.
@@nickhill8612 Yes it was unfortunate as we look back at what could have been.

In my opinion, the Gunslingers, have the best football logo of all time
Most of us liked the Panthers one
Panthers and Wranglers I liked. Was a Stars fan though.
G0Chiefs but look how detailed the Gunslingers logo was
Chizzie Lovell The invaders was my team. I wish the players would have a reunion. Maybe there should be a league reunion, that would be cool!

The Stars,Bandits,Panthers, and the Invaders were the most successful teams because they followed the Dixon plan to the "T".

I don't know if they would have lasted, lots of teams lost tons of money.

@@paulsonj72 The only USFL team to make a profit was the Denver Gold the first two years, they followed the Dixon plan religiously.
