@deanglenville7986 Tend to agree. Took my yellow/black R11S through the mountains of Northern Spain and the French and Italian Alps in 2014. Epic trip on an epic bike - superb handling machine. After that trip I had to replace the tyres. To date, it's the only time I've worn a rear tyre out on the shoulders while the centre tread remained OK (Michelin Pilot Road 2).

I bought a used 2004 R1100S a few years ago. Luv this bike. (Great for a day ride). Another maintenance item for this old bike is to replace the brake and clutch hoses with new Spiegler hoses...
P.S. You might want to reemphasize that a new tensioner uses a 15mm wrench and an old one uses a 17mm wrench. -- An easy way to check if somebody else has upgraded the tensioner...

Thank you! Considering adding a R bike as long distance bike for the ease of maintenance.
This video validates my maintenance thoughts.

Always enjoyed working on my 94 r1100 rs. My 14 r1200rtw doesn’t allow me the same level of satisfaction of working on my ride.

I did this job on my 2002 1150 GS. I would strongly recommend a dab of Loctite on the new tensioner. Mine worked loose after 1000 miles even though I gave it a good tightening.
They don't give you a torque setting in the instructions.
I don't know if this is normal, but it certainly happened to me.

Thank you. I own a 2004 R1100s. Since these bike are older now do you recommend any other upgrades or updates we should be making to these bikes beyond upgrading the cam chain tensioner?

Thanks for your video, you present really well. The spark plugs you replaced looked ok so why did you replace them?

    • @TheBMWGuy

cheap insurance. and i already removed them

While you’re there, you might as well.
Example: On my F900XR, BMW calls to replace spark plugs @ 18,000 miles and valve check at 12,000 miles. Not paying to have tech going back in to change the plugs in between valve checks.

did the bike not have a center stand? You usually turn the engine with the rear wheel - I'm always learning from you!
