What to Expect During Chemotherapy

  • Before your first chemotherapy treatment, you may feel a range of emotions: anxiety, fear, or perhaps even eagerness to get started. Knowing what to expect will allow you to face the experience with greater calm and confidence. Hear from a patient in treatment, doctors, nurses and loved ones about the reality of the chemotherapy process.
    Chemotherapy, often referred to simply as chemo, is the treatment of cancer with medications that can destroy cancer cells. Chemotherapy works by interfering with the way cancer cells divide, preventing the cancer from spreading and helping to get rid of cancer cells in the body.
    Our goal at the Maimonides Cancer Center is to provide our patients and their families with the highest quality care. This includes administering the necessary treatments as well as providing the education and support needed throughout these treatments.

      There are enough sick people who need help without this conspiracy theory for money to be made. If what you say were at all true some doctor somewhere would have been turned on (by another who actually knows) and it would be out there as cited evidence by now. Any doctor that kept someone sick would have lost their license immediately.

    I have had 2 treatments . The first was the hardest because I didn't knowwhat to expect. I was so paranoid about all the possible side effects. My oncologist worked with me to help me reduce the side effects and I feel much more optimistic k owing what to expect and how to deal with it.
    Everyone's advice was to advocate for myself. Ask questions. Ask for help. Let other people do favours for you. Knowing people are there to help is essential. I am single and live alone and don't really have family. The kindness and generosity of people is amazing.

My chemo experience was awful. I was depressed, not allowed to go to school because of low blood counts, neulasta shots (WHICH ARE THE WORSTS); i have never gone through so much pain from this shot, the shot itself doesn’t hurt, but the effects..... HOLY SHIT.. I felt PARALYZED. This video makes you wanna feel good about chemo. Chemo is hell, it’s awful and i don’t wish my worst enemy to go against it. It’s so bad. Stay healthy peeps

    My dad starts tomorrow. I’m so nervous and worried for him. He’s dealing with a few brain tumors in different parts of his brain. The doctors don’t know if they are cancerous or not, but they are doing chemo and radiation anyway. We are very lucky because he will be taking the chemo pill instead of doing a normal treatment (IV). Does anyone know more about the pill and the side effects? are the side effects the same as the ones described in the videos? Also, will the radiation make chemo more painful/will there be more side effects?
    I’m really scared, I’m only 14 and i’ve never had to deal with anything like this before. I’ve always heard about things like this happening to other families. But i’ve never imagined it happening to mine. This all just hit me way too hard.

Maybe you can talk to your parents so they can explain it to you better. Or read about it too. I wish your daddy nothing but the best, our dads are “FIGHTERS”, we got to cheer them on, and stay positive for them ok honey. Make him happy notes, inspire him to keep fighting. 2 hours to the better part of the day ? ... what that even means 😳

    • @yournamehere6939
      @yournamehere6939 3 года назад +1

      Means: if you didn’t get your labs done a few days before you go for treatment, you have to wait until your lab results come back so they can start anything. Means: if your port usually clogs up and they can’t flush it out with saline, then they have to inject an anticoagulant into your port and you have to wait 30 minutes for the clog to go away, if not they inject it again and check every fifteen minutes to see if it’s ready. It means: if you complain that you think you’re having an allergic reaction to the chemo, they have to stop everything, call the pharmacist to come check you out, give you more antihistamine, wait another 30 minutes, then try again and see how it goes this time. Then add to that the approximate 2 hours it takes to get the infusion. Basically, if everything goes well, you’re out in around 2 hours, if not 🤷🏽‍♀️ the better part of a day, say 10am until 7pm for us 🤓 true story. Happening every two weeks.

    I have managed to go through the treatment and the after affects and discomfort and operations very well and very bravely, far better than most people could, so far. But when it comes to asking for help and getting people to co-operate, yes that is when it is a problem.... because of the fact that the people that helped me *had no f*cking clue what they were doing* and *they argued with each other and with me about how to go about it all* and some people made a total mess of everything. So yes, the most difficult part is asking people for help, that's for damn sure!

      You should ask yourself why you're so obsessed with this. Don't ruin your health and happiness by doing that to yourself. It's horrible when you are faced with cancer (I know, I am facing it now). Do not waste another moment of your time doing that to yourself. Find a healthy hobby, take care of yourself and chances are you will be fine. Nothing funny about your obsession (I refer to your haha at the end of your comment) - you may need professional help for these obsessive thoughts.

    credit card, 130 past due, 33 available credit, 4,500 to pay off.

      It is completely normal for a person to feel weak after therapy . This is because chemotherapy wipes out all types of cells , healthy cells and the cancerous cells . @@syednadeem7294 I hope your mom is doing well. I did some research on cancer because my dad is fighting cancer right now. You may want to research regional chemotherapy (it is not painful and has less side effects but is not always a good idea like anything else), oncolytic viruses, cancer vaccines (those activate immune system to kill cancer, not just prevent it). The viruses are the most modern area if research, every self respecting research center is probably working on that these days, but in some countries you can already get it ( e.g. Germany)
