I thought this is Ben's channel and blindly I've hit the Like button before even watching the whole video as I usually do. A great, relaxing session! Subscribed! By the way, I remember my first board, which was a 7'75" Blind. It was tough to start with :D. Nowadays, every time I see someone having one (mostly newbies), I am happy to borrow it for just a few minutes ;).
So, I got my first board in 2002, a 7.63 I believe. And that's what I skated for like 8 years until I took a decade off to finish college, get married, and have 3 kids. I had heard rumblings that decks had gotten bigger over that time so I was like, "Okay, I'll go up to 7.75." Apparently, that is a comically small deck these days? Feels fine to me.
I honestly still can't believe people consider a 7.75" small. I rode that size for over 20 years before upgrading to an 8", and I can't imagine going bigger than that, haha The black shoes with the white laces still look amazing to me. I'm stuck in the mid to late 90s heyday. 🤷♂️
I skate an 8" which is on the "small" end of normal these days but I rode something like a 7.5" back in 2000. I prefer my 8" now but people act like 7.75" is soooo small when it's really not.

You can only land a certain amount of distance on the edge of your board to ride away anyways. I skated for 9 years on a 7.625 board and loved it. A 8 inch board wasn't anymore stable for me. I skated rails, and gaps, high Ollie's, I can see how a wider board would make stair tricks easier like kick flips becuase it flips slower. But choose whatever board your comfortable with
@@ariadna3291 hey, I'm a size 39-39.5 (7-7.5 in US) and I currently ride 8", but I'm getting a 7.5 as well cause both feel good to me. it's all personal preference :)
I've been riding 7.75s for about 10 years cos I want to get more into riding bowls and stuff I'm slowly making my way up the board sizes I hope these skinny boards come back in fashion some day because they are so fun
I grew up in the 2000s on 7.5-7.75 and you have tempted me to go back to them. My old setup was always krux down low 7.5s on ricta 52mm and bones bearings. Boards changed around but 2 of my favorites were a flip and a foundation. May try to get a 7.75 next month to try. Been on 8.25 since I got back into skating.
I'm a new skater with a size 8 foot who started on 7.75. I don't recommend it for beginners even if you got small feet. Fractured a metatarsal because of having such small forgiveness with landing space, and almost fractured it a second time. Though fun to flip around!
I'm a tall guy with a big foot. Skated 7.25 only in late 90's to late 2000's. Finally got an 8.5, and can't imagine going back. My flip tricks slowed, but traded speed for finesse I feel.
I still ride a 7.5-7.75. This size really didn't become "not the norm" till 2005-07'. It wasn't till Andrew Reynolds really started riding an 8.0+ during this time till everyone jumped on the band wagon. It was his 'A' Baker deck (Atlanta Braves Logo) that really influenced everyone to transition an 8+ to the street rather just for transition. Before you know it everyone was riding an 8+ inch and no stores rarely sold them (7.7). I remember I bought an 8.1 one time cause it was on sale in like 2004 and got made fun of saying what you trying to do skate vert.
Yeaa same I still ride smaller sizes used to stick with 7.5 moved up to 7.75 since I've been back into sk8ing after not doing it for 6 years cuz it's just a more comfortable size for me and I have size 13 feet lol never got made fun of or anything ppl just thought it was interesting back in 08 I suppose cuz everyone jumped on the 8.0 band wagon never really though about it honestly but I've rode different boards over the years the old 80s fish tails were always interesting the 70s small ones were my favorite had a replica growing up soo I assume that's prob where my love for a smaller board comes from lol
@@psydoof It's personal preference, but, at the same time, if people are pushing new skaters into skating narrow decks across the board, I think that's wrong. I've heard of people with a size 13 shoe skating narrow decks like that. Ridiculous if you ask me. There's nothing wrong with a wider deck.
@@idmhead0160 heard of a guy who skated with a penny board since he was young and now, when his feet size is twice the width of the board, he could still do tricks on it. In the end, personal preferences
@@a-disaster5285 IMHO, people are overly obsessed with flip tricks these days. There is more to skating than flip tricks and rails. After getting back into skating I tried smaller board sizes. I'm on an 8.5 now and wish I would have started with that size to begin with. Even that might be a little small for what I'm doing. Look at Andy Anderson on a 9"+ board.
Dude I skated from like 05-13(6th grade-11th) and I legit used to ride 7.25-7.5 decks for fun. The amount of insane flip tricks I could pull off with those tiny decks was crazy. My “safe” spot was 7.75 tho, had enough space on the deck for flips, grinds and for doing gaps lol.
I'm 42 and have skated 7.75 with low ventures ever since 7.5 decks disappeared. I have a few different setups for big transition and cruising but for everyday street skating and mini ramp I use the 7.75. I find it funny how offended some skaters get at my 'small deck and low trucks'. I'm not trying to convince anyone that they should change their setup so why do younger less experienced skaters try convincing me that I'm skating the wrong skateboard.

What do you think about actively skating 2 size boards? Like an 8.25 and a 7.75? I've skated an 8.25 for a couple years and a 7.75 seems pretty fun to skate on, especially for flip tricks. I already have 7.75 trucks laying around that could be put to good use.
I have 7.75, 8, 8.25, 8.5, and 9.75 setups for comparisons. I'm currently skating the 8.25. The 8.5 will be next. Can't stand the 7.75, or really the 8. I don't see the point of skating small boards like that. I like to have something under my feet that I can actually stand on.

Literally not going to lie he's the reason why I skate
@Joseph Maxon uhhhh why
Love the white laces on the black shoes! The 7.75 just looks right on you Ben, you’re so comfy with it. Fun stuff.
I have a Reese Forbes 7.75 from early 00's. It's so crazy small compared to the 8.25 FA Dill board I'm riding. I sure like the bigger boards so much more! 🛹
7.75 since 7th grade bro so 23 years same size hard to come by now tho best era of sk8n. Sk8n saved my life.
6:27 that boardslide was sooo smooth
I started learning with a 7.75 a in march, now i’m skating an 8.25 and i like it soo much better.
I started on 7.75 and now skate on 8.25, i think 8.25 is the perfect size
Do you feel a big difference between the 7.75 and the other size, cos I’m thinking about getting a wider skateboard
Safiya Morgan it’s surprisingly a big difference at first but you’ll quickly get used to it
Could you tell me your height and foot size?
@@frank.wabagnalejr7326 suree, im 5’7 size 6.5
I rode that size for over 20 years before upgrading to an 8", and I can't imagine going bigger than that, haha
The black shoes with the white laces still look amazing to me. I'm stuck in the mid to late 90s heyday. 🤷♂️
I skate an 8" which is on the "small" end of normal these days but I rode something like a 7.5" back in 2000. I prefer my 8" now but people act like 7.75" is soooo small when it's really not.
@@Fossil87 it is when you skate 8.5”
@@Fossil87 Wait til MF's get to 10" man. shit is defo crazy.
I skate 8" and that still feels massive to me after switching from 7.75"!
“I rode that size for over 20 years before upgrading to an 8”
Better be a no homo after that sentence
What is your shoe size? I have a 7.75 and I am size 5 (38). Do you think would be better to move to an 8????
I like your 8
but
I love my 7.75

Greetings from Berlin
3:32 is NOBODY going to talk about how smooth that was??
Carlos Lastra might be see doing those little mongo spins in some old braille videos
I started skating again a few months ago with my board I had when I was 12-13, I'm 21 now. I recently measured it and it was 7.5 inch. Currently planning on buying a new one after I finish exams.
"Its just too dinky." 🤣 I'm dead
I'm 36 year old. 7.75 deck is the best size i ever skate, i have 4 different size skateboard, 7.75, 8.0, 8.25 and 8.5. And 7.75 is the most comfortable for me, and yeah my foot size is 9.5. Big foot for small board. I LOVE IT
i just found your videos and i subscribed immediately i’m a beginner skater and this is super entertaining to watch and it definitely helps that you guys seem pretty nice and helpful
Maybe I need to try a really small board. Just so I understand the difference.
I missed the whole 7.75 time of Skateboarding. When I stopped in the 80a board were 9 or 10 inches and when I came back they were 8. Then I moved to 8.25 for a long time. Now I am trying shaped 8.75 Welcome boards.
Cool content and a killer look with these shoes and that board! Also that manual, well done!
:D
33 y/o, 5'10" size 9.5/10. I recently found my old 7.6 Venture Awake Highs and Indy Stage 8 129's. Im deciding on a board size. I bought a board 8" X 14 WB to go along with the wide board trend im noticing after just coming back to the scene but think ill downsize to a 7.75. I like the nostalgia of small board/wheels. 52mm wheels
But choose whatever board your comfortable with
A game of skate between Fiore and Ben would be a good video.
Funny enough - I think we've only played once.. Let's just say - Ben has a bigger bag of tricks.
Well it'll be a long game
@@Mfiore588 ? Ok
All I have ever skated were 7.5 & 7.75 decks, had an 8.1 given to me so I tried it,but have since gone back to 7.75, it just feels right to me.
What is your shoe size? I have a 7.75 and I am size 5 (38). Do you think would be better to move to an 8?
@@ariadna3291 hey, I'm a size 39-39.5 (7-7.5 in US) and I currently ride 8", but I'm getting a 7.5 as well cause both feel good to me. it's all personal preference :)
Have been riding a 7.75 since 2001 😊
i love black shoes white laces so i absolutely love this fit haha!! lovely vid :-)
ben i’m not gonna lie i’m half way through and you look way too comfy on it.. almost as if you actually skated in the 90s 🤔
How's it going now and i live in the 2000s
@@medievaltrap7285 went down to an 8.0. My son rides a 7.625 and it is tiny !
When we getting a full street part? :D
Pros about Beginners: For beginners, a 7.75 deck is easiest.
Pros about themselves: Damn it, a 7.75 deck takes more skills.
Love the street skating with the homies Ben, awesome!! 👍
damn i remember back in 2013/2014 77.5 and 8.0 were the most popular sizes, now it has transitioned to 8.25
Yes, people are starting to think rationally.
@@idmhead0160 its honestly just personal preference though
Look at Andy Anderson on a 9"+ board.
this video was so fun too watch haha :D
great filming !
have a good weekend :)
Thank you so much!
Still got a Flip Appleyard 7.5" from back in the day. Perfect for my 12 year old daughter.
It's so good just to skate with your friends
I LOVED RIDING 8 INCH DECKS
I'm 42 and have skated 7.75 with low ventures ever since 7.5 decks disappeared. I have a few different setups for big transition and cruising but for everyday street skating and mini ramp I use the 7.75.
I find it funny how offended some skaters get at my 'small deck and low trucks'. I'm not trying to convince anyone that they should change their setup so why do younger less experienced skaters try convincing me that I'm skating the wrong skateboard.
Right on man you do you! Im 33 y/o, 5'10" size 9.5/10. 52mm wheels
I like skinner skateboards; it makes your cruising look better, it improves your balance and landings look cleaner as you have to land bolts everytime
Loving this channel!!!
I had set up a 7.75 on venture lo 5.2’s, just as a fun side board, but it ended up just feeling like an 8 pretty much. Do i need to pair it with 5.0’s to really unlock the true 90s goodness?
I think so :)
For the 90 spirit, yes! Oh and put some 50mm and under wheels! But if you are ok with the 5.2 low stay whit it. It’s more stable
7 decks flip like magic
@@idmhead0160 I guess it's really all down to preference lol
@@ianrestores I think when it comes down to it you can't rely on what anyone else tells you. You can use it for reference, but, otherwise, you just need to try different setups and decide for yourself.
Want more stability for transitions, stair and big gaps? Go wider. Want fast flips on flat ground? Go narrow.
I like when you try every trick in this 7.75
I'm using a 7.5, and I like it. The board isn't too big nor isn't too small too
I too think too that too as too well too
Hey, great video man.
I’m thinking of starting to skate again. I’m 14 soon 15 and I have men shoe size 11.5. What board do you think would fit me for park and flat riding but also to jump stairs?
Absolutely love fiore style such fire 🔥
I'm 47 and the smallest deck I skated in the 80s was an Alva Fred Smith punk size which was 9.5 wide. Everything else was 10 in. I'm skating a 8.8 creature deck now. I cannot imagine riding something as small as 7.5 - 8 in. deck. I need all the room I can get
Hi I'm a 38 years old beginner, still improving my ollies, I have a 7.75 Real skateboards deck, with Venture lows, is it a good choice ? or should I aim for a 8.0 or more ? (I want to ride flatground only),
P.S : I really dig this new channel!
Cheers from Paris, France
It´s about preference. Tiny boards are light and good for beginners. As you improve you may miss something and search for new options.
@@jcsk8 Yes, since then I ride a 8.25 board, and it's much easier for me, more stability and comfort
@@firesteelers Nice. Just moved from a 8.125 for a 8.25. Not tried yet, let´s see what happens

Im 35 and just got back into skating, still have my 7.625 board. Holy hell, i had no idea how the sizing shifted for eveyone. I was at a local skate shoo trying to upgrade my board, and they were looking at me like a caveman when i started asking for my size, let alone 7.75. Anyone old heads out there feel the difference hoping to an 8 from 7.75 or under?
lol im riding a 7.25 and i can still hit a 7 set of stairs and ride in the bowl. im 28 years old, 5'7 size 8 shoe. and everyone thinks im a freak lol. i hop on a 8" board and it feels like a boat and i can't ride at all
My thought about downsizing from 8 to 7.75 will always there in my head, but not buying another new trucks
Did you switch? I’ve been having the same thought for a while now
@@Na-wg9jr havent switched to 7,75 because i have to buy another new trucks too

Hellyeahhh you inspired me to switch from an 8 to a 7.75😎
7.75 is for the best of the best skaters, 8.00 is great but no matter how many tricks you know, if you are comfortable skating a 7.75 inch wide board, you know you’re a good skater
I just went down from 8.25 to 7.5...I don't know if it's a permanent change but it's different enough that it makes doing my routine stuff a little challenging.
Other kids made fun of my 8" board back in the early '00s because they said it was too wide, lol.
If the other children make fun of your skateboard, they're not your friends son!
I used to ride a 7.75 but recently switch to a sheet of plywood, less pop at first but I use to it.
I just realised in end of the video that I watched just keep skating channel and not ben degros channel, Ben thank you for informing me about that In end of video,
I have a interesting video suggestion if ifnit works and possible if trying if you could make a video where you try baseplate and hanger from two different truck companies and see if they can be put together for example indy baseplate with thunder trucks or and vice verse maybe also trying with a venture or what ever of truck brands where you think such things could be good and funny to try to mix trucks.
What’s your homie’s setup? The other dude on this channel.
LOL, i went to school with Adriano(sorry if i spelled it wrong) always was awesome at skateboarding, if you see him again tell him Andrew from hudson says whatsup

What is your shoe size? I have a 7.75 and I am size 5 (38). Do you think would be better to move to an 8?
@@ariadna3291 I'm a size 9-9.5 in Van's, if you feel uncomfortable with the lack of space for your feet ride an 8, but toy get used to everything honestly, stick with a 7.75 and move up eventually when you need new boards to see what you like

I'm pretty sure that sippy cup top has a flap that you can fold back and it stays back connected to the itself on the top of the lid.
Boards depend on the type of skating to me. I'm a tech skater so I do alot flip in flip out , manuals, rodney mullen type skating. Which I find 7.5 worksbetter. Most skaters that I know that skate 8.0 or bigger , skate like stairs, rails , banks, wallrides , vert , incline , etc. To each his own .
I’m 6’2 size 11 feet and 10 years ago I killed it on a 7.8. Ever since I switched to and 8” I lost backside flips switch frontside flips, bluntslides. I’m going back to smaller boards
I still ride a 7.78 Flip board. For me I like skinny boards better since I'm not doing anything huge. But on mini ramps I think they're funner too.
