I've fixed my own SW6, which is for all I know the only weather sealed Walkman body with Dolby. The real struggle was aligning the body with controls once everything was fixed as there are a lot of toggles, the radio dial, the indexed shaft to keep them right where they need to be and I am very accustomed to service normal Walkman(s). Besides I have an AIWA Cross Trainer with digital radio to fix next in the same category... challenge's not yet over.
Thanks for this video! Fortunately, my Panasonic RQ-SW44V didn’t require soldering to separate, and after gaining access I found the old belt had fallen off the pulleys. My next step is to find a replacement belt and then try to determine the belt path. Where did you find the service manual to reference for installing the new belt?
On most of the ‘walkmans’ I had the auto reverse was usually the first thing to go, so I stopped looking for that as a feature. You’re still a braver man than me to take one of those apart.
23:52 As I understand you, man :)...When I first decided to change my belt, I cursed all the Japanese...For the future, check in disassembled condition (especially since there is one battery to put and very carefully with the loop (it is better to solder off, of course)
Great repair a bit of a tricky one missing spring is not a problem it reminds me a lot of my sony sports walkman ,s i like it a lot .My 1982 aiwa hs-j02 from 1982 is also a tricky belt change i got a really nice second one from ebay with all acessories and the original headphones that still have the original sponge i reckon it was never used or had very little use my first one came from a car boot and is tatty but i have owned it for many years
I used to have this exact model, and other than mine playing a *bit* sharp, it was great! I think I has it from 1994-1998 (once Minidisc hit, that was it for me :) though if somebody had shown me how to make *good* tapes back then, I'm sure I would have stuck with them longer!).
Simple fix, a belt to keep the damn thing running because I remember owning one of these devices back in the Mid90s when they were first out and the price tag of it was 152 $160 because I remembered the headphones that came with it will vibrate when you turn the bass on for outstanding sound and quality.
Do you know where/if I can buy just the belt clip that's on the back? I found it in a garage sale without the clip but I can't seem to find it sold on its own anywhere
Nice video sir! I have a thought that might help on how to repair the door cog that broke off. Use a small hand drill with a small drill bit, these are available from most hobby stores, I use one for my HO Scale model railroading hobby. So drill a hole large enough to fit a typical wrist watch pin in, go deep as possible then cut the pin so just enough of it will be able to fit the hole for the cog. Then simply put it back in as you would on any watch pin. The spring loaded pin idea can be used with any other small parts laying about, there’s plenty of options.
I can’t find the repair manual online. Could you please post the link to the one you found? I also need to know what size belt to use and where to get it on Amazon. The belt on mine just snapped and this will be my first attempt at a Walkman repair.
@@HooverLux Also, for the belts, it looks like I can buy a bag of 50 assorted ones. When choosing a replacement belt, is it better to be slightly smaller (tighter) or bigger (looser)? Obviously, choose one that's as close as possible to the original.
Unfortunately no, it’s the Goldilock dilemma when it comes to belts, you can’t get too big or too small as that affects everything, the belt has to be just right.
Good day, sir. Is there a way to expand the fm radio frequency of this unit? I have the sw-20 (almost the same model) but it has a minimal frequency range. Thank you.
@@HooverLux Yesterday I fixed it, it was the flex but the radio doesn't work, it doesn't tune any radio, only cassette, I changed the belt and it works incredible, sad that the radio doesn't work.

I know what you mean, it’s like putting Tetris together all at once with these and it took a few attempts and a heck of a lot of patience. 🤣
I had one of these to roller skate 🛼 @ Venice Beach 🤣 in my dreams 👍 excellent job mr Lux Panasonic was another great brand 🤗
I thought you used yours on muscle beach?
Solid video man! Thank you thank you thank you! Now to find the right sized belts!
You’re very welcome my friend. Was hell, but that’s only because I’m a complete amateur 🤣🤣🤣

I just did some google searching on the Model number, that’s how I found the exact belt for it too.

They really do sound excellent, I was surprised.

You may have to look for a donor machine in eBay.

This thing was cool 😎 1995 I loved this I had the yellow one and I upgrade to the silver one and then I had the shockwave cd player

Hello mate I am in the process of changing my belt is there any way you could make a video on how to solder step by step?

Hi, sir. How can i adjust the playback speed, mine's kinda playing too fast. Thank you.
Hi, yes, you have to adjust the potentiometer, but I can’t remember where that is on this model?

Hi, I’m afraid that’s completely over my head I’m afraid, I’m just an admirer/bodger when it comes to all these. Sorry.
Thanks. Another question, sir, do you have any idea on how to adjust the playback speed? Mine is out of tune it plays so fast.
nice vid i have the same model but no power on, where can i get the service manual to fix it thx
Oh gosh, if you just Google the make, model number and add service manual, that’s how I found it.

Dude, you have chosen the wrong belt, it mist have been the one you selected prior to choosing that thick belt. Although good repair 👍, 😂😂
Thank you 🙏🏻
Found one today and pad $1.50 it's missing the battery cover and needs the drive band. I hope I don't burn myself with the soldering iron.
Ooooh wow! That’s a bargain! Let me know how you get on and please don’t burn yourself 🤣
I used to have the exact same one in highschool. I don't know what happened to it so I found another one at a thrift shop and it has this same Issue 😭
Hi, I’m glad you found one and you can get it sorted too. Take a look through the comments as I’m sure I’ve had people given some advice.
