Well said. I have even seen large metal plates, and thick aluminium scheets in some cases. In my own experience, transistors sometimes get cracks, if you turn the screw slightly too much. My guess is, these large washers and brackets and plates are to avoid cracks, by distributing the force into a larger area.
Max, I love your videos and content but also love seeing things switched on! If you are doing a BEB and think it may work please switch it on. I am aware it doesn’t apply in this case but glowing tubes look too nice to miss out on. Keep the content coming!
Hi i have a question about the 0:55 issue of isolation Must the bolt be screwed to a plastic nut like a nylon nut to aovid the short circuit ? thanks a lot, gino
Hello. Tell me please, can it replace a good home amplifier? What level of sound quality does it have compared to HIFI amplifiers? I have acoustics with low sensitivity and many recommend an amplifier with a good power reserve, but I'm more interested in quality. Thanks.
No tubes this time 😀 That's quite some power and kilos of. Quite a difference when compared with my 200Watt amp in similar form factor, where the final transistors look quite puny. Still quite a lot of "Lärm."
These (the CA9 is even worse than the CA6) are absolutely no fun to fix. There are multiple different PCB revisions, multiple different schematics and multiple different chassis layouts. Some of the schematics have mistakes and are poorly drawn. In all of them, everything is almost completely inaccessible. Then there's the fun of having 130 V across two adjacent pins on a TO-92 transistor (at least in the CA9). If you slip with a probe, then about all you can hope for is to buy a 20 meters of rope and sell it as a boat anchor since it isn't worth replacing output devices in one of these.
I love the Guarantee-for-full-heat-sink-contact washers, not at all just found from some machine shop :D

Thank you very much! You are welcome!
Lot's of tube stuff to make videos with.... so stay tuned.
Crest makes a beast of an amp....looks like this one was used inside the kitchen of the restaurant mentioned. sheesh.... ;)

Nice one Max!
Thank you Paul. It's one of the smaller videos, but there are many more in production :-D
