    Ok you still have pay money back to credit card..

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  Год назад

      Yes, always pay at least the full statement balance every month. Otherwise, you are negating the value of any rewards earned on the card.

    If you have a family member or parent who pays bills the old fashion way. Go visit them and ask them for cash on a bill they owe and pay their bill online. Or perhaps you have a younger brother who doesn't pay via credit card his bills. Ask for the money cash first, then pay his bill then deposit the cash into your savings account.

      Yes, I love this idea! It's a win-win situation for everyone.

    One thing that is helping me (along with the car insurance) is I held off on some purchases in anticipation of needing to meet a minimum spend. For example, I stalled and stocked up on both my pets’ and my supplements, a quarterly bottle of CBD oil ($350 right there) as well as some travel related items that have been parked in my Amazon cart. I set the money aside and if I need a little boost to hit the minimum spend, I’ll make one of these purchases.

      Nice! That sounds like a sound approach and strategy. 👍

    Just FYI when purchasing gift cards they are not suppose to be paid by credit cards . The stores and credit card companies will think of it as a scam/ fraud including when you’re sending money to a person. They detect those as frauds.

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  6 лет назад +1

      I think it depends on how much you do it and how it compares to your normal spending. The occasional purchase shouldn't cause any problems, but regularly charging large amounts at certain locations can be flagged by the issuer. As with most points purchases, overdoing it generally gets one in trouble! 😄

    You just gave me a fantastic Idea about me using my JP Morgan Ritz Carlton card to meet the min spend. I'm in the market for another vehicle and I plan on using the 4000.00 min spend as my down payment along with any cash back from the purchase of my vehicle.

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  7 лет назад +3

      Awesome! Glad the video was helpful. The car down payment is an awesome way to get some minimum spend. Just make sure that they run it as a purchase and not a cash advance. They should treat it like a purchase, but I would just ask to be safe. 😎

    I never wanted to pay my utility bill by credit card because they wanted to charge a couple extra dollars as a fee for using the cc. So I have been doing the pay twice as much, just to make it worth it...

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  7 лет назад +2

      That makes sense. I hate paying the extra fees unless I'm really needing the extra spend. 😀

    Just a note about Plastiq, you can no longer use any VISA card to pay rent or mortgage. Can still use MasterCard, Discover or AMEX for rent or Mortgage though and you can use VISA for other bills.

    • @stevenmiller7747
      @stevenmiller7747 7 лет назад +2

      muddywaters1980 I agree, the only thing that made sense with Plastiq was paying your mortgage with a Chase Safire Card because for a few months they coded it as lodging, thus it was travel, and you got 3 times points back which made up for the 2.5% charge. Now that that is gone it no longer makes any sense to use Plastiq. By using Plastiq you are ADDING 2.5% to every bill you pay. That's nuts. Just write a check. I'm done with Plastiq. Also someone mentioned you could still pay rent with VISA on Plastiq, customer service told me you can't. Either way unless you are getting 3X points for paying rent there are free ways to pay your rent so using Plastiq makes no sense in any case. It was nice while it lasted but I'm done with Plastiq. I'm not paying an additional 2.5% to make spend when there are so many other ways to do it without additional costs.

      I considered myself to old school to want to experiment with something like Plastiq, just couldn't get past putting my mortgage payment into someone else's hands. But now that I've read up on it somewhat and missed the boat (it sounds like) for my mortgage payment, just wondering is it the same for auto payments...

    What about using credit doctor and opening a bank account with a credit card n pay it off with the money deposited

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  6 лет назад +1

      Not sure, to be honest. There have been a few similar schemes in the past (like the AMEX Bluebird), but they also get shut down once the issuer realizes what is going on. I would be careful if you go this route!

    We're planning on buying a new sofa in February or March with the Chase Sapphire Preferred so we can at least hit $2k of the $4k minimum. (That's if we're approved, but I think we're good with the 5/24 rule and I already have a card with them.) We should be able to cover the rest with bills and budgeted spending over the 3 months by taking a huge chunk out first with a much needed furniture purchase.

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  6 лет назад +2

      Sounds like a solid plan! It's definitely smart to time big purchases to meet minimum spend requirements. 👍

    I just got approved for the CSR and will be starting my minimum spend journey. One question. If I spend towards my travel credit will it count towards my minimum spend even though I'm getting credit back? Thanks

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  5 лет назад +1

      It should still count (even if you receive a credit from Chase). The terms and conditions say that it's based on new purchases. I also checked online and found an article by Million Mile Secrets confirming that it counts 🤓: millionmilesecrets.com/guides/chase-minimum-spending-requirement/

    Since Not everybody is buying a car the same time they signed up for a credit card for the minimal spend. Some people who do
    that's one thing but Not everybody does. same with business travel Not everybody travels on company business some people travel on company business. but not everybody does.
    but can you reshoot 6 and 7. when I applied for my venture card back in Nov 2016 I used a lot of it for holiday gifts.
    the remainder of my spend some went to birthday gifts, then I purchased an American Express gift card a gift card to the grocery store, hair salon , bagel shop.
    what do you think about these suggestions for minimal spend.
    gift cards to gas station
    gift cards to restaurants
    going to a spa?

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  7 лет назад

      Thanks Mark. Everyone definitely has different circumstances and situations, so I totally understand how some of the suggestions won't apply to certain folks. That being said, I do think that your purchase ideas are great, especially for gas stations and restaurants! 🙂

    Hello Trip Astute,
    I applied for the CSP card and was approved in August and applied for the Freedom yesterday and was approved (9/14/17). How long should I wait to apply for the Freedom Unlimited? Thanks!

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  7 лет назад +3

      Great job on getting those two cards! The Sapphire and Freedom cards make a great combination. I generally suggest waiting at least 90 days between applications just to be safe. While it's not a hard rule, the issuers seem to get nervous when an applicant gets a lot of new credit within a short period of time.

  • @ajbrinser8960
    @ajbrinser8960 7 лет назад +1

    So I have opened 3 credit cards in the last 24 months. The only chase credit card I have is the freedom. I have a credit score of 763. Which credit cards should I apply for next? I was thinking the CSP and after a year downgraded to the CFU. And then applying for the CSR and holding. If I do this will I still be able to apply for chase ink preferred if I already have 5 new accounts in a year or so?

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  7 лет назад +1

      That sounds like a good strategy, especially if the CSR has a better sign-up bonus in the future. In theory, you should be within the 5/24 rules when you apply for the Ink Preferred. Though you might want to consider getting the Ink Preferred now (since the bonus is currently high) over the CSP. I have a feeling that that bonus will decrease soon, especially since the card has been out for a while now. Plus, if you decide you don't want to keep it, you can always convert it to the Ink Cash with no annual fee.
