Disney Plus is Failing.

We just got finished with the 2025 Q1 Disney shareholders meeting where they revealed Disney plus lost 700,000 subscriber. Yes, that’s right round of applause.
Well, this is wonderful. Right? 700,000 is a lot of people. And ESPN lost 700,000 as well. Hulu gained 1.6 million. But I guess I don’t really care about Hulu or ESPN as much. Like obviously those are Disney, right? But that’s not my target. I want you to cancel Disney Plus. I think it was Sun Tzu who talked about the important of attacking a target where they are weak. Disney Plus, the singular app, is Disney’s weakest point. If Disney Plus fails, Disney goes down.
So this shareholders meeting was to report financials from the end of 2024. Which means that that 700,000 drop off was between October and December of last year. And then they’re saying the expect another decline in Q1 of this year. That’s awesome. That’s great. But why is this happening? I’d love to say that it’s exclusively from my videos, but that’s not the case.
Disney claims that this was due to price hikes and expiration of certain promotions. Lots of people have those promotions; you know the ones - sign up for T Mobile and get Disney plus for a year. Yeah, those count as users. And maybe what they’ve said is entirely the truth, but I’d like to offer two more options: Bad Content and Cost to Use.
Look at this lineup of releases from Disney Plus last year. This is all the Disney+ exclusive content. Not the movies that were in theaters and then got pushed to streaming. Can you honestly say any of this is worth paying monthly for? I can’t. This is pathetic. And what’s in the pipeline for this year? Percy Jackson 2, Doctor Who Season 2, Snow White; after a poor theatrical run, Ironheart, Wonder Man, I mean yes, Daredevil could be great; but I’m not subscribing for it. I loved the first 3 seasons, but my integrity is worth more than Disney Plus slop. Is Andor 2 worth paying for Disney plus? I don’t think so. It could be entertaining, sure, but Star Wars is toast in my mind.
Okay, but I also said Cost to Use. Disney Plus is expensive and the price keeps increasing; as they want you to either opt for the ad-tier OR you bundle everything with Hulu and ESPN. People are sick of paying for expensive subscriptions that have bad content. The third point I just made makes this fourth one even worse. It’s an expensive luxury purchase that people aren’t using.
Everyone was raving that The Acolyte was the number 2 watched show on D+; okay, but compare that to the other star wars shows, and people aren’t tuning in. That number 2 announcement reveals that the platform itself is not being used. So why pay for a subscription?
You shouldn’t.
