Hey! I like the V comp on keys & synths - things that were quite complex sounding, seemed to naturally pull the content together without being too mushy! I looked into the chandler stuff as well, as a comparable option to the V Comp - but the audioscape option is considerably cheaper and I think it does a great job too! The opto was cool and had a load of low end thump to it, in my opinion - which was super useful alongside the hpfdetector - where you can sweep up to the frequency where everything feels balanced to your taste. I was shooting it out versus my UA LA2A (not an original Teletronin though!) which I thought was brighter and spittier on the very top essss & T’s, whereas the rounded top end of the opto would probably be more useful across the board. The compression of the opto felt a bit looser than the La2a but it was still better than the UAD plugins which I felt were the best before this. To match the same kind of tonal character as my La2a, I had the Hf on the opto at around 2/3pm! But yeah more options from the opto, still ultimately preferred the La2a I have, but then again, I don’t think I’d be buying a new one at 4k pounds or whatever it is now!! I have owned all of these, and still own the V and the ASA-6A. The V-Comp does the Sta-Level thing for me: great on vocals and bass to make them smooth and big. I was hoping the ASA-6A would somehow be even smoother and bigger, but I find it more useful to crush drums (either groups or individual), then blending that back in. I didn’t really vibe with their opto as much as a UA La2a, but in general La2a-types are not my fav comp.
