This is a sapo escuerzo in Argentina. There is an olf folklore that these animals are magical creatures. There is a short story by Lugones that narrates the story of a lumberjack that kills a frog and that the frog comes back from the dead to avenge his killing. It was recently made into a film.
It's a shame these videos don't perform better, they are some of my favorites! I will never own 99% of these critters, but I get to dream like I could for a few minutes.
Many years ago I rescued a pac man frog from a pet store that was going to euthanize him because he had an injury. I nursed him back to health and named him Beefcake The Mighty, after the bass player in GWAR. He was an aggressive, bitey bastard. I loved him very much.
What you said about good breeders being excited to answer questions and bad breeders being annoyed by questions was really cool and important for everyone who wants to buy a pet to keep in mind. thanks!
That's good advice for a lot of things, not just pet breeders. Find an electrician who gets excited at the chance to describe what he's doing and why to someone who actually seems interested, and you've got one who takes far too much pride inn his work to cut the sort of corners that are gonna get you shocked a week after he leaves. The times following a doctor's advice has gone well for me correlate strongly with the times the doctor in question was willing to talk me through what was going on and why he/she thought that's what was going on, instead of just irately demanding that I respect his/her authority and credentials and blindly do what I was told. And so on for pretty much everything in life.
Clint, while this might not be the most lucrative format, it is without a doubt, INVALUABLE. These videos have without doubt, already saved thousands of creatures from unnecessary suffering, and helped so many more people make better choices for themselves and their pets. These videos might not earn you much, but at least from my perspective, these are some of the most valuable videos ever uploaded to youtube, and you ought to be immensely proud of the effort, time and dedication that you and the team put into such an invaluable resource. Thank you for all that you do.
Especially for parents who are being pestered to get a particular type of pet. Parents and kids can watch these videos together and decide from there. Knowledge is power!
It really is a shame that the pet videos aren't as popular. I love all the videos this channel puts out, but I get really excited when I see a pet video! I've made some very informed decisions on the pets my family has based on the pet videos specifically
It's so weird to me that these videos are less popular. The pet videos are easily my favorite, and they're the whole reason i subscribed. They're a delight!
My favorite ones are the pet videos like black mamba where the answer to the headline question is immediately obviously a "NO!", but it's still fun learning all the details of exactly how and why getting one as a pet is a bad idea. There's always way more non-obvious reasons on top of the few obvious ones, and sometimes there's even a few surprises where things that seemed obviously bad about them as pets aren't as bad as it seemed, but where there's still plenty else going on to make it still a really bad idea.

I've learned a lot about animals that I never would've come across outside these videos -- I'm not in the market for a pet, but as nice little introductory videos about various animals they can't be beat.
The best pet subscribers are in the minority, but we do really appreciate you continuing to do this series. I really like in-depth on one animal opposed to more general looks at a group of animals.
Love the pet reptile coverage! And those new Tarantula Cribs enclosures are legit (I’ve messed with them in person). The best enclosure I’ve seen for an African House Snake…
@@diapysikI would say that they are the easiest amphibians besides true toads. The only reason true toads are easier is because the don’t have amphibian problems. Although toads still need their water treated, they are much more resistant and hardier than any frog, salamander or newt.
I love the pet videos! Honestly, I wish reptile expos, and legitimate breeders would reference them and utilize them when they have customers new to the hobby and/or animal. Educating the public is one of the BEST things we can do. Could you do an episode or a series on what to do if a person can't keep their reptile, fish, amphibian anymore rather than 'setting it free', and WHY setting the animal free is bad for the animal, the environment, and hobby?
@@ClintsReptilesIt could be a series where you bring in different rescue groups to discuss what to do in their various states to make people more aware of the large variety of options and specific locations that may be closer to them. I personally prefer the phylogeny videos, but I do believe these pet videos are a vital service, and as an animal lover I enjoy seeing them and hearing about their proper care. Still working on digging out my blacktip reef shark moat, by the way.

I'm a caridina shrimp breeder's and it would be so interesting to see you first talking about them because they are just the best pet imo 😂 but the genetic variations that happened over the 20 more year they have been line breed and crossbreed with other species of the same genus, that they have bring insane amounts of colours, eyes colours and crazy patterns. I would be so interested for you to explain genetic inheritance and how by mutation there is new colors and patterns appearing. It would be so nice to see you talk about them from the humble black bee (caridina logemanni prev cantonensis) to the different tigers (caridina mariae) and the other caridina serrata, such as tangerine tiger, aura blues and yellow king Kong. I know unfortunately the shrimp keeping hobby is very niche, even more so with soft water specie's that are more challenging to keep. Would be awesome to see you Clint talk about them.
I could never get into cardinias- too picky about conditions. Neocardinias? I throw my culls into an outdoor summer pond and at the end of the season they end up as the most gloriously colored individuals, down to their toes. I've gotten friends into aquarium keeping with neos and these days there's dozens of variations across the rainbow.
@@Kehy_ThisNameWasAlreadyTaken yes neos are super affordable and easy to get into shrimp keeping. Yes caridinas are a bit trickier and require proper care and research before being successful. Also it is way more expensive, not only the shrimp themselves but everything you need to properly take care of them (rodi waters, remineralizers, active soil, proper filtration, proper diet, bacteria, additives and so on 😂) but you can't beat the beauty and the craziness of hybrid caridinas, with blue, red and purple metallic double pigmentation of the cells. A neo will always be a neocaridina davidii of different colors variant. Hybrid caridinas are way more complex in regards to hybridization and what to hybridization has brought in regards of all the crazy different ones we have nowadays (galaxies, boas, fancy tigers, galaxy tigers and all new orange eyes and purple metallic variants) not looking down on Neos 😂 I'm doing my own crossbreeding and it's fascinating to see the outcome of every generation and how they radically change and how certain traits pass on to the new generations. A fascinating topic and I would love that @ClintsReptiles to elaborate and talk about. I think it would be a great video.

I just find it more rewarding for caridinas, as you can have a lot more fun and infinite possibilities of creating something new. Is it long and hard yes it is 😂 but it's great. I made my own lines of galaxy tigers from scratch by crossing red fancy tiger and boas and now I have two lines (red and black) with an infinite variations of patterns and color variants and it's really rewarding to see what you select get passed on more to new generations. It is a very marginal part of shrimp keeping and few people have time or will to do so. For me it's really a passion, so that's why I would love for people to talk more about.
@@yukimura1sanada You can do salt for nearly as inexpensive as fresh. My current reef tank (1.5g) I'm refusing to spend more than $30 on an single piece of coral, though I get some for as low as $10, and the light, which I'm reusing was $40 new. Pair that with a generic internal filter for $10 (reusing one, but HOB works too), a box of rock rubble for ~$20, container of salt for $20 (enough to last more than a year). I assume you have water purification, so you wouldn't even be spending more on that, but distilled water is ~$1 a gallon, and works well enough. I'm personally going bare bottom, so a fair amount of super glue is the only other expense. In general, both sides are only as expensive as you let them be and there are ways to mitigate expenses without sacrificing quality.
I don't get why the pet videos aren't more popular, I love the format and they're what got me into your channel to begin with! I always learn something new when I watch them, and they're often cute and hilarious, sometimes because of the entirely unreasonable pet that's being presented or just generally because of your humor. And that's not even to mention the invaluable information on pet choices and animal care! I decided to get a Mexican Black Kingsnake as my first pet snake based on your video about them, and your whole pet video series has helped me so much in figuring out which animal would be a good fit for me and how to best care for them. I'm super happy with my little noodle and so grateful for educators like you who make all of this information accessible to (prospective) pet owners. I really think makes a positive difference for animal welfare by helping people make better choices in choosing and caring for their pets, so please keep it up!
I came here to add my voice to all the others. Love the best pet videos! They are entertaining and educational, even if they are not the best pet for me. This channel is just stinkin rad.
Well first glance at thumbnail scrolling through feed I only saw an eyeball with 4 limbs sprawling off it like some kind of alien, that image will haunt me for the rest of today.
I find that crazy. I came and stayed to this channel because of the pet reviews and advice. Youve saved me from many bad experiences and gave me vital tips like making sure whipless tails have vertical surfaces or weeping emperor scorpions moist. And the children one was hilarious. Dont get me wrong the others videos are great and well done but ill take 1 review video over 10 deep dives into the differences of species and families
I have zero intention of ever keeping a reptile or amphibian as a pet... but I love these videos!! I learn so much each time, and I appreciate that you're always very honest about costs, dangers and difficulties, I hope that this has already prevented a few ill-considered pet acquisitions.
I recommend your care guides to anyone thinking about acquiring an exotic pet. Your African bullfrog video is why I have one. I knew I wanted a frog and was trying to decide which variety over a period of a few months, but your care guide on ABFs gave me the push. I watched every video you had on white’s tree frogs, dart frogs, etc, but I knew the African was going to be the best for me! Bombur was the size of a quarter when I acquired him 2.5 years ago, and is now a 10”, 3.4lb tank, who is an ambassador for his species to everyone who comes into our orbit. 🐸
Finally!!! I've been asking you for pacman frog for two years!!!! This was my first pet that I took care for myself (i.e. without my dad's help) when I was 11 - 23 years ago! 😂😍🥰 And their bite is actually quite hard - they do, afyer all kill rats or other small rodents or birds or amphibians etc with their bite!
I have to say Clint, you are my all time favorite RUclipsr, and I love these pet videos. It will be sad the day they go away, but I must say I appreciate the amount of free knowledge and entertainment.
Hi Clint! I'm not sure if I've commented like this before, but wanted to thank you for helping me (slowly) become more comfortable with little guys like this. Your calm explanations and physical handling of the critters is great for helping me learn and fear them less. Appreciate you!
I know these videos don't tend to do as well but please keep up the good work. Your videos are some of the best resources people can use when trying to decide what reptile is right for them. Back when I was looking to get my first reptile some 5 years ago it was your videos that I used to learn what reptiles were out there. Even if they don't get as much views, I can't understate how useful these videos are to new or aspiring reptile keepers.
I had a stunning pacman morph from a petshop, but he died within weeks. I had his enclosure, temperature, his humidity and diet perfect, but he just wouldn't eat properly and looked lethargic. I think what Clints saying about them being poorly bred and having health probs is definitely correct
I started following a few weeks ago, and glad I did! I love the phylogeny videos, and the pet videos are interesting even when it's not the best pet for me. I've concluded that hognoses are the best pet for me from these videos, and have been setting up an enclosure for one since the last local expo.
Blows my mind these videos aren't the most popular. They're what got me into this channel in teh first place, and I perk up most when seeing them posted. Keep up the good work! Love your content!!
I know these types of videos don’t get much views compared to other types these days, I’m glad that you’re still making these types of videos. Maybe you can make another video like best pet reptile for certain people or people who are looking for a certain group of reptiles. Like maybe best pet lizards for people who live in an apartment? Or maybe another video about a pet monitor lizard?
I got a baby strawberry pacman frog from a petshop about 3 months ago, and he unfortunately passed away 2 weeks ago. So i highly recommend to do your research on breeders.
I'd love to see you do a vid on a salamander species, especially the prettier blue or red/orange colored species (Fire Salamanders being the most common, but there's some others too iirc) I know the least about them but do know they are around. Tiger Salamanders being another big one. Either way love any vids with reptiles/amphibians and other pet or animal vids with actual examples! Lol
I work at a pet store for reptiles and fish and often new families with small children who do not know what it takes to care for an animal they've never even encountered; I make our store care sheets myself and text them to people all the time and I always include a link to you clint for your general and upfront care as well as guide to see if this would be the right addition to their worlds. Especially when it comes to the general public who knows nothing about any animal really besides a dog or cat. So really I thank you for your content please don't ever stop making these! I really really love to share your videos and especially to my customers. Thank you for making these Best Pet videos. I appreciate you and many of my customers with small children appreciate your content in their beginner journey into reptiles and amphibians!
Thank you for continuing the best pet videos. These are my favourite and how I got into the channel. They may get fewer views but I think they convert the most people based on how many people say this was their introduction to the channel.
Pacmans are wonderful!! I've had my little man Sal for nearly 5 years now. he's the only herp of mine that's drawn blood(on multiple occasions) - even my bullsnake is friendlier! I went to a breeder that turned out to be awful, Sal had terrible MBD and nearly died but with my vet we turned him around and he's been chilling in his bioactive tub for years. He does sit under the uvb(shadedweller) every so often. Creeping fig and philodendron or pothos are the only plants tthat survive being dug up occasionally but it works!
I love these videos. Both the more serious “Does this cute pudgy frog make a good pet?” And the “I’m really doing this to prove to you that you do not, in fact, want a penguin.” 😂
Its still crazy to me that these "______, The Best Pet _____?" videos dont do well. these are my favorites and are the reason I subscribed a few years ago!
my FAVORITE shots of this video are where the frog is just calmly sitting on the table and clint is in full view behind it. the frog looks sooooooooooooo cute just sitting there (with 1 clint for scale)
Something I didn’t see you covering in the care section but definitely seems to come up over and over in online communities dedicated to these things is that their reputation of being voracious-eat-anythingers isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. I really struggled to locate a feeder that my Pac-Man would eat as a small frog. As they have gotten big, so too has their openness to eating new things. But it was pretty touch and go on what to could get it to eat at first. Another amazing video from a top notch content creator in the field. Really well done!
Another episode in the category that brought me to the channel! Love these so much, they're a great way to learn just a little about so many little cuties! Thanks Clint and Co.!

I have never seen this species before, but I couldn’t help chuckling every time you showed it’s goofy little frog face. What a great lil’ guy.
The “best pet” series is how I found you like 6+ years ago! I hope you please keep making them Clint!
I love the pet videos, especially the ones about frogs and other amphibians.
I have zero intention of ever keeping a reptile or amphibian as a pet... but I love these videos!! I learn so much each time, and I appreciate that you're always very honest about costs, dangers and difficulties, I hope that this has already prevented a few ill-considered pet acquisitions.
I want more pet videos like this
6:34 Roach POV: Be very still, he won't see me. Be very still, he won't see me. Be very still, he won't see me.
Aw, how wholesome.
I agree this group of videos is very important. And even though I am terrified of frogs, I called my son over to watch the video with me.
We have a bunch of frogs in the local pond. They freak me out when they jump.
These frogs just look so darn adorable
Finally!!! I've been asking you for pacman frog for two years!!!!
This was my first pet that I took care for myself (i.e. without my dad's help) when I was 11 - 23 years ago! 😂😍🥰
And their bite is actually quite hard - they do, afyer all kill rats or other small rodents or birds or amphibians etc with their bite!
I got bit by my Pac-Man yesterday and I bled
I love the frog startling when you start spraying them, then realizing it's just water and chillin' very cute
I have to say Clint, you are my all time favorite RUclipsr, and I love these pet videos. It will be sad the day they go away, but I must say I appreciate the amount of free knowledge and entertainment.
I was lookin for a care guide for this frog yesterday! Another Clint Clutch!
Gonna be honest, I would have thought these pet videos were more popular. They're my favourite videos on your channel.
Hi Clint! I'm not sure if I've commented like this before, but wanted to thank you for helping me (slowly) become more comfortable with little guys like this. Your calm explanations and physical handling of the critters is great for helping me learn and fear them less. Appreciate you!
I love the clips of candid conversations with others in the room at the end of these videos.
This video had to be a long time coming! I’ve been wondering why he’d never done a video on the Pac-Man frog before!
Thank you for continuing this library and patrons for helping out. I think it is important too and I love watching each one.
I had a stunning pacman morph from a petshop, but he died within weeks. I had his enclosure, temperature, his humidity and diet perfect, but he just wouldn't eat properly and looked lethargic. I think what Clints saying about them being poorly bred and having health probs is definitely correct
Yay Pac-Man frogs!!! Thank you for keeping the best pet videos going! It’s why I fell in love with this channel years ago!
I am glad you can make videos even if they aren't well preforming. These are valuable and you seem to enjoy them.
I love the pet videos. Thank you Clint and Patreon supporters!
I started following a few weeks ago, and glad I did! I love the phylogeny videos, and the pet videos are interesting even when it's not the best pet for me. I've concluded that hognoses are the best pet for me from these videos, and have been setting up an enclosure for one since the last local expo.
Love that you bring up the genetic functioning/sometimes problems with some morphs. Would love a video that discussed this for snakes too.
I love the frog videos. I want more of them...
2:35 - "You wanna know how I got these scars?"
Dude, check out what my frog did to my finger, man!
Lol
You should do one about the Common Rainfrog.
Love those little Potato Fairies (Like some People online call them 🙃)
Clint can you do a video on red footed tortoises? Please!🐢❤️
I love the pet videos!! It's what got me hooked on your videos!
Ur the guy that got me into reptiles keeping thanks Clint!
What a great sponsor. It'd be great if all ads were as relevant as this
Love these little guys! The albino morph looks AWESOME!!
Great video! Id love to see toads next 😊 don't forget to add the sponsor link!
I love the best pet videos! And I love pac man frogs! I’d love to see you do tomato frogs too. ☺️
He was Smiling :) at the camera...how can they not be the best Pet Ever!!!
Extra interaction for pet vids--these are an invaluable resource clint--thank you
These videos are my absolute favourite videos on RUclips ❤
Please continue making them 🙏🏻
Thank you for continuing the best pet videos. These are my favourite and how I got into the channel. They may get fewer views but I think they convert the most people based on how many people say this was their introduction to the channel.
These are my favorite videos of yours.
I'm glad you still choose to do them.
YEEEESSSS FINALLY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PACMAN FROG VIDEO!!!!!! I LOVE PACMAN FROGS i had one that looked exactly like this!! her name was Dmitri !
Yeah I'm surprised it took this long to get to them given how popular they are.
These were the videos that got me hooked from the beginning. I slacked off watching reptile videos the past few years though.
I love the, if it is the best pet for you videos
This format si spectacular, instructive and certainly my favorite. Please Clint never stop producing those videos ❤️
Also called South American horned frogs cos we can't have nice things 0:30
I can't believe that Clint never did Pac-man Frog video till' now.
Its still crazy to me that these "______, The Best Pet _____?" videos dont do well. these are my favorites and are the reason I subscribed a few years ago!
I especially like the best pet for you video series
i love these pet videos!!!! thank you tarantula cribs and clint’s reptiles for helping inform future pet owners 🖤🖤
I love these videos, sorry to hear about your algorithm issues Clint. They introduced me to your channel and I hope you continue them.
They're some of my favorite videos
Glad to see these videos are back. I appreciate all your videos, but I really enjoy the pet videos.
Thank you Patreon patrons and thank you Clint and the team for the pet videos. Very informative and useful.
my FAVORITE shots of this video are where the frog is just calmly sitting on the table and clint is in full view behind it. the frog looks sooooooooooooo cute just sitting there (with 1 clint for scale)
i didnt know that these videos weren't super popular on here, the pet review videos are my favorites to watch!!
Thankyou so much for continuing to make these pet videos. I hope y’all do honey bees at some point.
Not the best pet for me, but I have a friend who'd love them.
That feeling when you realize your favorite segment is somehow not as popular as you had thought/hoped. Wild! Keep em' coming, please and thank you!
Never before have I clicked on a RUclips notification faster than
Yep! Every week.
I’ve had a Pac-Man frog for 4 years they are truly just mouths with legs
Another episode in the category that brought me to the channel! Love these so much, they're a great way to learn just a little about so many little cuties! Thanks Clint and Co.!
Thank you, Patrons. I appreciate these 'best pet' videos very much!
I know these aren't the most successful videos, but they're the reason I subbed. Thank you for showing this frog, and many other beautiful animals!
