      @@Cool-gk8mc But it's almost 20% size of the vision pro. Also, AR doesn't need to be 4k. You just need to read some text boxes.

      There is a puck, just like with the Vision Pro, but it wireless and can be carried in your pocket. Also, you have to wear a little wristband too in order to do some of the controls with your thumb gestures, at least for now.

      @inceptional День назад +1

      @@Cool-gk8mc Did they mention the resolution. If it's "holographic" like they say, resolution might not be considered in the same way as a typical headset with a normal screen.

    Meta has a big problem, but with these Orion glasses, that problem could become history. As it stands, users can only watch Facebook and Instagram ads when they have at least one hand free. With these Orion glasses, users will be able to watch Facebook and Instagram ads for as long as they stay awake. I guess the next big problem is how to show ads while users are sleeping - but I’m sure Meta already has a prototype for a nightcap that will inject Facebook and Instagram ads into our brains while we sleep.

    I remember reading about them around 6 months ago they cannot be mass manufactured because silicon carbide waveguide tech is considered too high tech to be given to china

      As long as china has seen the concept, they will always figure out a way.

      fake news. it's just expensive to manufacture. I haven't seen any evidence meta doesn't want to manufacture in china. just do quick google search and they manufacture all their other tech in china.

      it's not always political dude. The kind of tech they showed it's likely than ran into limitations of materials and physics than politics.

    Sitting in a coffee shop. 11 people including me. 3 had shades up on their head, and 3 wearing prescription glasses. 6/11. Me and the other 4 might being wearing contacts or left the shades in the car.
    If Meta can eventually knock this out of the park with even thinner designs and switchable smart glass (to go from clear to dark and vice versa) and can effectively replace normal glasses and shades (gotta wear glasses anyways right?) then they will have created the “next iPhone” and instead of it being “hey remember the days when people weren’t always starring at their phones” to “remember the days when everyone wasn’t wearing AR glasses”. The applications for stylish AR glasses (that resemble their Meta RayBans) is endless and too cool and revolutionary that people couldn’t help but purchase.
    Imagine driving, and the navigation being a blue line on the road itself with your speedometer a heads up display. Or golfing and seeing it track your ball like a simulator, or the slope lines and speeds of the green with optimal putt line suggestions. Or surgeons having extra data and displays. Or being in the nosebleeds at a sports game and being able to have overlaid names or stats over the players. Ofcourse having multiple monitors for work and entertainment on the go is awesome too. But it goes by enhancing the experience of so many everyday things in such a cool and simple way that the app ecosystem for that will be insane.
    As of now, think they Need to make it thinner, do the switchable glass thing, and be able to use your phone as the processing puck (until tech is at the level where the phones are not needed or even obsolete), and see if you can make watch bands for the hand movement thing. That way we only have to wear a watch, not a watch and another band, and only have to carry our phones and not also a processing puck. The switchable smart glass lens helps it to replace both glasses and sunglasses with more versatility on command.

    i really dont think AR is some holy grail that will replace smartphones, at least not for a very long time. this orion seems more like a magic leap 3. The waveguides in the ml were fairly poor and end of the day whats so great about "holographic" images anyhow. the novelty wears off really really fast.

      Don’t have to look at phone constantly, read and respond to messages from glasses, live captions for hearing difficulty/elderly, HUD, maps when you’re walking, AR keyboard and virtual monitor so you can do your work just through glasses instead of needing a computer. Listen to music, do your work, and respond to messages all just from glasses and use AI for help with your work or with looking up something as you’re typing up your thesis. Power off everything and just keep walking, nothing to pack up or carry with you just your glasses. Or when you’re working on your car, you can watch a video or have a helpful interactive AI to help you guide in building something. Help you identify what you need to fix something or identify something you don’t know. For artists have a layout made by an AI for inspiration and draw and create something mixing with their own imagination. There’s so many ways to implement this tech for different people. Utilized by medical students to teach anatomy and almost “hands on” without an actual cadaver so they can learn anytime anywhere.
