"It's just a dog" comes from people who have never experienced the unconditional love that comes from a pet- they are more than a pet, they are family. Praying for all of you during his cancer journey. Thanks for sharing this. I too am in a valley right now and tend to freeze. I needed this reminder that we are not alone and sometimes life just sucks. But it never stays that way, and there are good things even in the valley.

I have had so much love, unconditional love from mom and dad and I also give the same now to my kids. I for some reason always think of a dog as a dog. Just a dog. That’s alright. It has nothing to do with not experiencing unconditional love. ☺️

Well said. I've never heard of the valley term, but I'm definitely in the deepest crevice there is. I've never been in this predicament, and it's scary. Not having a way to pay rent, insurance, groceries.... plus, I need to put down my very sick dog. It's never-ending. I just want to go to sleep and not wake up to this life.
There’s something called “Anticipatory grief” and it’s absolutely a real thing. It sounds like that is what you’re feeling and is so understandable ❤Losing an animal is a special kind of heartbreak
I've lost a lot of people and pets, and the anticipatory grief is always the worst for me. It is terrible waiting for something terrible to happen to someone you love.
How does one work and heal through that?
@@allthingscloudy I’ve been through it with people and animals. Something I found to be very important is to not rush your grieving process and don’t allow others to tell you how to grieve. If you suppress the feelings of grief, you won’t be able to fully process it, preventing you from getting through it in a healthier way where you can come to terms with it, let it sink in, and then continue on with your life (if that makes sense). You eventually may need to push yourself to do things you love again, but that will come with time and you’ll know when you’re ready. That’s been my experience anyway.

How crazy I was going to say the same thing but I didn’t know how to put it in words, I didn’t realize there was an actual name for it, that the time leading up to someone’s passing is actually worse than the passing and I don’t mean that to sound rude, I just lost my mother last year, she wasn’t just my mom she was my best friend and I’m still struggling but it’s true. It’s something you have to keep telling yourself and even then the unimaginable is very scary and I think that’s what makes it worse than the actual passing. As humans when something happens we deal with it one way or another but when you don’t know what’s going to happen it’s out of our hands.
Having a sick or elderly pet is a neverending stress. The 'waiting' can feel really crippling and having to silently carry that in your day to day life is the worst. The only comfort is knowing all the joy you brought to each others lives. My heart goes out to you ❤
I lost my Lil’MAN cat 6 weeks ago. I had him for 14 years and 9 months. I ugly cry for him. We were bonded and had an amazing connection. When he looked at me, I could feel his love. I’m incredibly grateful I had him for so long. Your Puka is so lucky to have such an amazing DOG MOM! Prayers are going out to you and Puka. So sorry you are going through this. Hugs Tati❤
All the positive energy to Puka! Its never "just a dog". I had my ride or die little pup and lost her in 2022. She was (and is) my whole heart. When you were talking about Puka i felt the pain and my heart is with you 😢
Prayers for Puka!! I sobbed as you were talking. I lost my 75 lb rescue black lab mix three years ago and he just totally left with my heart. He had lymphoma and steroids kept him going in great form for over a year until one day he came in the kitchen and looked at me like “😊I’m sorry.” But we had another lab who had inoperable cancer. Vet said nothing could be done except take him to the Kansas University Vet School. He stayed at KU getting chemo for a month. We’d go see him on the weekend and take him to a hotel. He was already 12 but he lived four more years cancer free. Was it a lot money- thousands but worth every penny. You just never know so don’t give up hope.
I lost my sweet boy (Scottish fold cat) on February 4th 2023. I’m still not over my sweet boy. I miss him so much. Poor Puka, and poor your little pup , Melissa.
I lost my sweet dog back in December and what you're experiencing is anticipatory grief. I went through it and was so terrified of life after my sweet boy was gone. It will be hard when the day finally comes, but you will be okay. Feelings are scary, but you've made it through every difficult day of your life so far and will make it through this. What's helped me is remembering that because of God, I can see him again one day, and every day that passes without him is one day closer to seeing him again. I'm so sorry that this is happening to Puka. I wish you and James comfort and healing as you process this. You've given him a good life, so no matter what happens, you loved him with everything you had and that's all he ever needed. Hugs Xx

Praying for Puka!!!! I am currently battling breast cancer myself and I know how rough it is not only on the patient (be it human or animal) but also the family. And pets are absolutely family!! The things I have found helpful are to stay positive and hopeful, focus on the good, and surround yourself with a good support system. Sending love to you and Puka and all of your family 💖

Pets are family! I feel for you right now. I lost my two chocolate labs and let me tell you, those boys got me through my 20s, into my 30s. My husband and I waited 2 years before getting a recent puppy. My labs will never be replaced but it’s been so fun to have joy in the house again. After a hard day, there is nothing like unconditional love from a dog. 🐾 🥰

I’ve been a silent follower for years now; this week has also been one the worst weeks of my life, in tears basically all day, and the little speech about putting on makeup on your worst days in the beginning, as I’m currently putting on my makeup to feel a little better. Just, thank you. Thank you for putting this out even though you weren’t feeling it, it helped push me to even do my hair and grab a coffee. Appreciate you Tati ✨

It’s definitely not just losing a dog. It’s a family member, when I lost my dog I was inconsolable for months. So I get it. Your doggy is in my thoughts and fingers crossed regardless of the cancer he is with you for as long as possible ❤
After my mom's pomeranian died...she had his picture on her phone for 2 years afterward. It took her that long to think about getting another dog again....

I'm so sorry the week has been rough for you. Dealing with the same rough week as well. And guess what, my Christmas tree is still up too, lol. Keep your head up. You will get through this. Never let anyone make you feel small for being emotional about your dog. Pets are as much as family as humans are.

Can I just tell you, my mom bought a ficus tree when I was a kid and it was not cheap. Anyway, it died within a month. My mom, ever resourceful, went to Franks an old craft store and bought fake ficus leaves and hot glued them to the tree. She put lights on it for Halloween, Easter, valentines, st Patrick’s. You name it.
I guess I typed all that to say, if the tree makes you happy decorate it for whatever season and enjoy it. Life is too short rock the simple joys.
My Autumn girl is my soul dog, she is almost 12 and I literally stress myself out every single time she doesn’t anything out of the ordinary. I worry myself sick over loosing her and pray that the day never comes 😢 dogs are so much more than some people think. Prayers for your baby, I hope everything works out. Holding you and Puka in light. I lost a heart dog to cancer many years ago. The grieving process started way before he was gone, but was also a chance to really soak him in, to enjoy what I loved most about him. They do leave paw prints all over our hearts.

i lost by furbaby a few months ago. i totally understand, it's not "he's just a dog". a lot of us bond with our pets like children. i just cannot believe one day he was here and now there's a him shaped hole in my life. I just went through this 2 weeks ago… and I felt all the feels , what I learned is that I knew what was coming but every day , I cheered him for giving me one more day with him to be his mom.. I celebrated him every day until he was ready to go. It’s “there then we realized how we give thought to “things “that in reality no matter.. Family matters.. he was family. Unavoidably we become someone else after such heartache but life keeps going. Best wishes for Puka , you and your hubby. ❤

I'm so sorry to hear about your struggles with your fur baby. I've lost four dogs to cancer and I can empathize with how much it hurts. They're family, and we love them like family. And I agree that glitter helps. I've been struggling with some pretty heavy issues for about six months now, and my daily relief is my makeup time. So I may feel horrible, but at least my makeup looks good. Some days it's those little things that carry us across the finishline.

I lost both of my labs between Jan 2021 and October 2022…it was devastating and I still have moments where grief hits me like a dump truck. I truly believe the world is better with dogs. I get it. Sometimes it takes more than one day to chill. Do what feels good to you. I like to get cozy, read, light a new scented candle, put on good feeling music, and dance if the time is right. I hope your day gets better!
Hugs to you Tati. I had a dog pass in a house fire then another shortly after we adopted had a whole slew of health issues and we only had him for not even 2 years. I was just done having to feel those awful feelings so we're taking a break from pets for the moment. I know what you are going through. The grief stops your life, really. Hugs and prayers again.
Prayers for Puka, I lost 2 dogs in the past and to be honest I grieved more for my furbabies then people I knew who passed, it was very depressing, and again I got another dog and he’s 11 and already I’m anxious about him getting older, they are are family and whoever doesn’t understand that never had a pet❤ 🙏

I hope only for the best for Puka because I understand how much pets can mean so much more to people than just a pet. I appreciate you mustering the energy to make this video and still talking about your beauty favorites. I lost my dog of 15 years Scruffy last Thursday. The day before, he had a +$700 blood test. It just sucks. We adopted 2 bonded boys on Sunday. We miss our little buddy, but we just had rescue our Max and Milo. Sending all the love to you, James and of course Puka.

Tati I get it. My soulmate dog Shasta was diagnosed with bladder cancer, and we had to say goodbye in May of 2021. That was after my oldest sister passed in February and my dad in April of that same year. All were crushing, yet saying goodbye to that sweet girl was a heartache I can’t explain. We dealt with the anticipatory grief prior to her passing as well. Embrace each moment with Puka and get all the snuggles & naps you can together!!! There’s nothing like the unconditional love they give!! ❤️🐾

OMG - prayers for your beautiful fur baby. I lost one of mine last November. Fine one day and strong nonstop seizures the next. Her brother is a bonded litter brother. Been sad here. It’s not just a dog. He is part of your family. They heal hearts and bring joy into our lives. Our fur baby was my son’s dog. He was supposed to be the “family dog” but he and my son had a special bond. We lost our son in a car accident 7 years ago his pup has helped us overcome some dark days. There is litteral science proving that the love, worry and grief we feel for our pets is actually just as deep as what we feel for the people we love, even deeper. If they're sick or we loose them and are not "allowed" to feel it because it's "just a dog" it makes it so much worse! So go ahead and feel it and stay in bed and be sad and worried, it's PUKA!! ❤

My boxer Blaze, is currently detoxing from all the Western medicine I've subjected him to over the past 8 years and it is without a doubt one of the hardest things I've ever had to do/witness. I'm currently battling stage 4 bowel cancer & I know the tough times only too well.
Our furbabies, like our humans, are family. My first shared baby with a partner had hypomyelination, and it taught both of us a lot about patience, communication and compassion. We both use each other to recover some days when it gets too hard, and having someone who knows the struggle does help.
You're thriving, in your willingness to share and be authentic, and I hope your support network is in place, just in case. I pray the best for your precious pupper, but I know he's loved and you're loved, and Gos will give you all you need in any unhappy event. You deserve all love and prayers. ❤✨

Praying so hard for pookah. Anyone who says they’re just a dog doesn’t understand and is tone deaf if they’re saying that to someone who is going through it or not. Also praying for your peace and sanity through it all. I lost one of my dear angels at the start of the new year and it was a traumatic experience and I still am struggling. Just keep yourself busy and surround yourself with the ones you love and your sweet baby. 🩷

It’s not just a dog, it’s the most loyal friend and confidant and the most comforting being in the world. I have a 15, almost 16 year old Puggle whom I’ve had since she was 4 months old. She has the energy of a puppy at times, but has given me some scares over the past year and a half. My heart hurts for you! Keeping you Al in my thoughts and prayers!
it's not just a dog, it's part of the family, that's how I treat pets in my home, and even today I grieve for my cat that died almost 20 years ago and there's not a day that goes by that I don't think about him, the active time of grief is behind me, but he is a beautiful memory that will stay with me for the rest of my life, even though I have other pets now
