    Hi Everyone:
    I now have a Patreon: www.patreon.com/HorsesPT
Get more material and help keep these videos sponsor-free by supporting me over there. On the Patreon, I will be doing a whole bunch of fun, creative stuff that will never be on the RUclips channel, including:
    -Exclusive Giveaways
    -Audiobook recordings
    -Exclusive video essays
    -Process/BTS videos
    -Q+A’s
    -Sneak peeks
    -and more!
Some eagle-eyed viewers may have noticed that none of my videos have sponsors or product promotions. By refusing these “opportunities,” I am able to prioritize the creative process over the whims of advertisers. Supporting me on Patreon is a great way to help all of this happen. Plus, you’ll get all kinds of extra stuff.
    Thank you for everything!

If you're careful about sponsors, and give them their own very discrete blocks in the video, I don't think it necessarily affects the creative process. Especially if it helps you keep food on the table. Nice videos!

I passed out on my couch and woke up 20 mins into this video. Had some of the most vivid dreams I've had in a while. I was in a huge old lakeside mansion and the inside was like a labyrinth, I kept getting deeper into the house when I found a pit and fell down it into black water. I swam out and there was wrekages of homes and rubble in the dark of this pit, among all the burnt wood and broken glass I found a box with a decomposed body in it, I felt compelled to take it with me. After picking the body up my dream becomes really fuzzy but I think I as getting out of the house it started in. The only thing I can remember is it becoming like a frat house and everyone was breaking shit and pranking each other in horrible ways like spilling acid all over the floor of the bathroom when their friend was taking a dump. Anyways I went from one room to another trying to get out when I ended up at my job of all places, there was a party going on, cakes made of every small business building in my town, my boss walked up to me and right as I was about to ask why there was cakes he cut me off and said "you need to be here by 5 to judge the living and the dead" and then I woke up right as he was getting into Christian mysticism.

Something about Catholicism just produces some of the best horror writers. I think it's the tradition. Catholics grow up knowing the value of traditions and the mystical. The fact that when you go to a Catholic mass today it's basically the exact same thing as was done a 1000 years ago. The only difference is the language and which way the priest is facing. No one does horror or tradition like the Catholics do. They just have this innate sense of the mystical that i envy.

    Very well done Michael.
I am a Catholic seminarian, and I'm always a little wary with people speaking online about Christian topics without being well informed.
This is not the case here, you've done your research and it is a well-written and presented essay. There's so much detail I'd like to go in on, as the mystical and spiritual traditions of east and west are very interesting to me; at least the more normative elements - I'll leave the more fantastical elements to those much holier than I.
The prayer tradition of monks of east and west is fascinating, the sayings of the desert fathers, and writers like Saint John Cassian, and Saint John Climacus are brilliant; one tradition that begins there in the deserts of Egypt and is later written about in the Russian Orthodox Classic "the way of a pilgrim" is the "Jesus prayer" - a repetitive prayer using the Holy Name of Jesus, seeking to pray constantly, and take every thought captive. Through translation, this has now become very popular in the west, and is one of my preferred ways of praying.
From the western monastic tradition, the practice of Lectio Divina, or Sacred Reading, has also exploded in popularity; contemplative reading of Scripture, the Gospels in particular, which seeks to renew one's Mind by directing one's thoughts and actions towards the Word, who is Jesus Christ. It is, as St. Jerome says: "ignorance of Scripture is Ignorance of Christ."
Regarding those parts of spirituality that go beyond the natural, general accepted wisdom is that being too desirous of mystical visions is a good way to become over-credulous and be deceived by the devil, it is why the Church is generally cautious with each case, even cases the Church accepts as genuine, such as Saint Padre Pio, who, though later declared a saint and his stigmata seen to be genuine, was silenced for a long time because of superiors being cautious of deceit.

He was a happy guy who knew how to speak to the youth. He would call me heretic as a joke since I would tell him I didn’t have too much faith in me. Wish I could talk to him today.

I am not catholic, but i am ex-christian and a diagnosed schizophrenic. I want to say i think there are many ways to categorize a person like me, based on the culture i might happen to live in. Lots of us in many many cultures are misunderstood and mistreated. Even now in the world of the dsm, things are not perfect. Where I'm personally able to have livable level of wellbeing,, others without healthcare or diagnosis face some of the roughest times in America. schizophrenia exists in 1% in total human pop maybe 20% in homeless americans. We still are not regularly trusted for our needs and opinions, and almost no one here is given any "spiritual" framework to heal and understand the patterns we face from the inside out, only to medicate and make it go away so we can go on laboring. Survival is dictated on ability to hold work, not to have low suffering.

although we have come a long way (especially in the last 50-70 years) it is disheartening to know this kind of thing happens. i have a fully funcional schizophrenic friend (a good friend btw) who is a catholic (i'm not, but i have a good relationship with catholicism, let's say) and i do believe it's one of the few religions which has been able to deal (or cope) with it. not perfectly by any means, but this things move slow. i mean SLOW SLOW. anyway, thanks for the insight, i hope the best for you.
PS: i think the percentage of schizophrenia in the homeless pop is actually bigger, is just undereported. not only in the US, but around the world in general. i'm not from the US but i've work with homeless populations and drug use being a trigger for the underlyinf condition is for keeping this number high up, even in places with free healthcare (like where i live). society in general is not able to keep up with it, we've been failing these people. let's hope this changes as quick as possible.

Since we are talking about mysticism, I wish to add that eastern christian theology (Orthodox theology especially) has the idea of theosis, Or deification in english. Which to put in simple words is a belief that one's spiritual aim should be total unity with God on a literal level and as the bible describes it as "participate in the divine nature" (2 Peter 1:4)
This very mystic belief is not limited to Eastern mystics, it was actively discussed by much of eastern theologians like Athanasius of Alexandria and the alexandrian/coptic fathers, John Chrysostom and The cappadocian fathers and so many more and is considered a core part of Orthodox theology and spirituality.
Athanasius of Alexandria even said "God became man so men may become gods"
And theosis is seen as Salvation. it is what christ came to achieve and what he gave us, especially since eastern christians reject the western understanding of original sin. Theosis to eastern christendom is sanctification of the soul by the holy spirit, acceptance of christ and unity with the father, to ultimately partake in the divine nature literally.

IMO: Do not obsess over something you desire; do not fall into despair or melancholic despondency; do not let your estimation of your faculties convince you that you have ultimate knowledge of reality; do not allow anger or indignation to lead you into harming or condemning others or yourself; do not become consumed by the sense or conviction that you deserve what others have; do not numb your heart through bodily pleasures or the acquisition of possessions; and do not keep from others what would benefit them that you have and do not need. Call it demonic obsession, possession or just plain neurosis (to differentiate between psychosis, which is not anyone’s fault), avoiding these mistakes and admitting them and forgiving yourself when you fail is how to almost certainly avoid it.

Had a bit of an existential crisis the first time I watched this. The original intent behind choosing to watch it was, "Well, my dad already taught me how to exorcize demons, but let's see the 'official' methods used."
Instead, as the video went on, discussing the various beliefs of Christian mysticism, I kept finding myself saying, "Wow, this sounds a lot like the beliefs my dad had and what he taught me about religion. Wow, that sure is a lot of specific scriptures that he quoted as the foundation of his faith." This led to the eventual realization that my dad was raised in Christian mysticism, even if he wasn't aware of it in his own life, and was very dedicated to his faith. In fact, he divorced his first wife because she kept going to a church whose teachings he didn't agree with.
And then came the mention of stigmata. I have a number of physical deformities due to my dad's exposure to Agent Orange in Vietnam. Most are completely benign, but one has always stood out to me. On the right side of my ribcage, there's this severe dip where my ribs just bend inward, as if I've been stabbed by something. I brought it up to a doctor when I was in middle school, as that's when I first really noticed it. The doctor kicked my dad out of the examination room and began asking if he was hurting me. My dad wouldn't hurt a fly, let alone his own kids, but I said to him, "Uh, if he was hurting me, do you think I'd dare to ask you about something you think he did in front of him and not wait until he was out of the room? No, he's not hurting me. I'm just curious about my bones."
"Oh. That's a good point." He asks my dad to come back in, then continues, "I'm very sorry for doing that, I just assumed you were hitting your son."
My dad laughs and says, "I completely understand. I'm not offended, you're just doing your job."
"Thank you. It's just that the reason I assumed that is because the only thing I can think of that could cause your son's ribs to take that shape is if they had been broken with a broom or pole of some kind, then never got them set by a doctor."
Most doctors would poke at it, make a note of "Yep, that's a thing," and then ask if it interferes with my ability to breathe or cause me pain. It does neither of those things, or I've just learned to work around it, so they just shrug and finish their notes.
The possibility of it being stigmata, of course, is basically zero, but that didn't stop me from breaking down into tears that this was some divine sign, and I was not ready for that.
This is not me saying I didn't enjoy the video. I'm honestly glad to know the information so I can tell one of my brothers in law, a scholar of the Abrahamic religions, that he's wrong and my dad's beliefs weren't heretical. They're just steeped in Christian mysticism, and, honestly, he was the most ideal Christian I've ever known, while that brother in law is a huge bigot.

      @rojopantalones9791 Месяц назад

For clarification, I'm not a Christian myself. I choose not to take on the moniker because I don't agree with where the church is nowadays. To describe what I believe in would require me to explain higher dimensional geometry. In short, though, it's that all interpretations of all faiths, whether real or imagined, are true and that all gods and all individual interpretations of those gods are real. I'm a third generation American, my dad being the grandson of immigrants from Croatia and, at the time, Czechoslovakia. He was born in 1943 and passed away in 2006, just a week after his 63rd birthday.

Twelve years of Catholic school education was a good way to keep me ignorant of my own faith. When something didn't make sense, or religious instruction came to its inevitable paradox, my instructors would speak down to us children, and handwave it all as "Divine Mystery". There was never an attempt to explain how or why, these mysteries existed, mostly because I rightly suspected the adults had come to the end of their knowledge. There's a reason a lot of seminarians leave their schools newly minted atheists. I am thankful for RUclips teaching me more of the HOW the faith I was raised in came to be. It's all a lot deeper and interesting than the surface level faith of most Christian instruction I have ever received.

This is soooo eye opening. Theres an exorcist on youtube, a very popular one who I followed for years out of an ironic interest, mostly for entertainment to see just how far he would continue to go with his ridiculous theatrical practices. I even went to one of his events (attended by up to a hundred people sometimes) where he interacts with the audience, does sermons and performs a few exorcisms to whoever in the crowd that is seeking one. He will then do his interview of "diagnosing" the possession in front of the audience, which he historically does in career for what he says is transparency and for the purposes of "educating" his followers on both the warning signs of possession and how to avoid it. He then performs the exorcism, which is... basically EVERYTHING the handbook here says it shouldnt be. It is a theatrical spectacle in every sense of the word, both on the part of the exorcist and the volunteering individual, it is completely public, the individuals are usually held by the arms by his assistant from behind, just in case they start to collapse because they're done standing up, they are often (but not so much anymore) filmed to be shown to an international audience online (with permission from the individual, but still). The whole interview leading up to it is fully public, and they even get quite personal with the information the volunteer shares... now this exorcist is not catholic, just christian so I suppose maybe thats why he might be just using his own policies/process. But it is funny in a way to see just how much it is entirely the opposite from the only official rules his practices are. He has his own book written about his personal exorcism practice. He even has an online "school" to teach people how to be an exorcist of the same type that he is.....whew. Humans are WILD.

    • @adaharrisonn
      @adaharrisonn 10 месяцев назад +1

@@Tinil0 based on his behavior I seriously believe that he believes in it, but he is also objectively trying to make a profit. I don't think of him nearly as evil and greedy as some megachurch leaders for example, who spend such a minimal time actually connecting with humans in their ministry and mostly just sit atop a pedestal conducting the show, and who also have a very unpleasant way of comporting themselves when they *do* interact with people. But Bob is still undoubtedly seeking to make a living off of the proliferation of his exorcisms as a business and the "education" of his teachings which he thinks are vital in today's world...he does way more exorcisms in private than in public but the fast that he has had several viral videos on youtube showing people at their most unhinged and vulnerable during what is quite possibly the biggest spectacle of exorcism you'll find any footage of online, it rubs me very the wrong way regardless of permission from the participants to post the video. They often are in tears of gratitude afterward and are very warm and familial with Bob post exorcism and report immediate feelings of relief and appreciation for his help but still. I'm on the fence about Bob as a whole. His practices are objectively exploitative but also humans are allowed to participate in whatever they want and he's not doing anything to people that they didn't willingly volunteer to take part in, and the does the exorcisms for free. He also is just a truly fascinating guy as far as his beliefs go. It's quite the theater troupe of identities he's given all the demons and such. If you're a fan of demonology you'll love this dude's work and his books. The WAY he talks to the demons during the exorcisms is objectively hilarious most times, he is so witty and funny that it's hard to despise his approach. But from a detached lens, yeah...the practice is questionable. He definitely believes wholeheartedly in it though. I would not call him cynical as I would definitely call others. Kenneth Copeland comes to mind (though hes not that type of pastor, no exorcisms and stuff, at least that I know of).

Horses I respect your honesty with your final conclusion holding truth in it, and giving the viewers something to reflect upon. Very good video format, and very informat video on the subject.
    Good audio.
    Good editing.
    Clear voice.
Kept me as a viewer very interested in wanting you to say more about the subject. And you kept to keeping a respective tone & choice in words to educate individuals about said subject rather than bashing or being preachy about it.
I say this as a Christian who loves seeing an informative format to the faith/other subjects to cultures/beliefs etc etc. Allowing people to see/understand the other side without the influence of complete one sided prespective influencing the viewer.
May you have a good day & keep up the good content & remember doing something out compassion can be just as good with motivation.

I got baited into learning about christian mysticism with the promise of spooky exorcism, and tbf I can't complain!
A beautiful book I encountered in the past is "The practice of the presence of God", by brother Lawrence. It speaks of a relatively simple and straightforward practice about remaining in contact with God throughout the day. I recommend it to anyone interested in such matter, it's not a heavy read either.

Could you do a video about yogis? Dmt, etc theres a book called, “life and teaching of the masters of the far east”? I think this would fit your aesthetic on your YT channel. Great video as always! Hope you see the comment would love to see you tackle that.

Yoga and DMT aren't as linked as acidmath wants you to think, do what works for you
