Every one of Stockhausen's works is a FEAST for my brain; it enlarges the barriers of music -abundantly. There's likely no piece he's composed that I didn't admire. Another brilliant one: Xenakis. Sometimes they remind me of each other; sometimes they are utterly contrasting in style. I truly miss Stockhausen (I even have a shirt that says so).
His music is not my cup of tea, but my goodness he's a very creative and innovative person. A real genius! When i heard him say that he wanted to compose music for the 24 hours in a day and have 24 rooms dedicated to each hour so that people could listen to them at each hour of the day, that made me realize how much of a genius he is.
Such a wonderful documentary. Thank you so much for uploading this. It’s such a pity that such wonderful resources are typically unavailable outside of the UK.
It infuriates me… my own issue is not being to access any ice hockey from the US legitimately. I know the tricks like vpns but I don’t see why I should use that. The other reason I’ve given up posting new content is the copyright blocking RUclips does: I’ve always subscribed to the mantra that if you can hear it on the radio as a “broadcast” it should be ok to share. Being digital is immaterial when someone could have recorded on tape…
I think that Stockhausen is the greatest composer the world has ever produced. I mean, his music is just so unique and innovative; it is literally like nothing else I have ever heard!
Wrong. If he was the greatest composer the world has ever produced, a lot more people around the world would be listening to his music and playing his music. You know, like Bach and other great masters.
@@benaraujomusic That's not the only thing greatness depends on. But it's certainly one of them. Otherwise greatness becomes a random subjective feeling. A composer's penetration of the culture and of time and history is very important. How many people play a composer's music at home, perform it in public, record it, share it, talk about it, write books and make videos about it. That's all part of the definition of greatness.
Many thanks for posting this program. It's a fine synopsis of Stockhausen's life, musical development and compositions, as well as some of the performances.
Sándor Dániel Molnár No problem, you’re welcome. If there’s anything else on the BBC Sounds app. (Aka BBC iPlayer) that you can’t get to, reply here and I’ll do what I can to download it here in the UK then upload it for you. Regards
Charly chak, I looked it up here; en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klang_(Stockhausen) and he apparently completed 21 of the 24 hours before he passed. Hope that helps
@@JamesUK-je4ewcan i finish it? I have some ideas for hour 22, 23 and 24, inspired also by current political events... Hour 22 will be scored with recorders, organ, microtonal piano, 3 chitarrones and tape!
elie chemaly I wasn’t intending to as the software I used to capture the stream was on another laptop I no longer have. That said, I’ll see if I can find it and get it set up again. Was it just series one of Music Masters you were looking for? Regards
elie chemaly, I've found "Music Masters - John Adams" which I'm downloading now and will upload here shortly. It looks like there were 4 episodes, of which only 3 appear to be available. I'l do some more digging and post back.
@@eliechemaly6038 OK, there was only one other episode available from that series, not two; the "John Adams" one. I've uploaded it and you should be able to see it now. Enjoy (and get it quick before it's blocked. ;-)) Regards
Surely he can't be Sirius. All jokes aside, he was a genius. I wish people would get used to the idea. The problem I think is that we haven't caught up with the sensibility of our own time, it's too painful.
There’s a spike Milligan quote something along the lines of “With the future uncertain, and the present so traumatic, is that why we all wish to go back to the past?”, or something like that. Regards

How can anyone argue with that logic?
His remark on Sirius is so hilarious! 36:10 Classic Stockhausen!!!

100% agree. Thanks for dropping by and leaving a comment. Regards
Yes, the greatest composer to walk the earth. As he himself proclaimed, he came from Sirius.
Wrong. If he was the greatest composer the world has ever produced, a lot more people around the world would be listening to his music and playing his music. You know, like Bach and other great masters.
@@dvforever A composer being the greatest doesn't depend on how many people listen to his music

I think he is a showboater but his content is quite serious and fruitful.

THE MUSICIANS NEED TO BE CREDITED!!! AS IT IS NOW, IT'S VERY DISRESPECTFUL TO THE PERFORMER!S!!! PLEASE FIX THIS.
Who is he trying to fool? Serious failure of a sense of humour required for this brand of cobblers.
