Shot in 1969, this silent movie shows gliders being flown in Washington State at Soaring Unlimited. Soaring Unlimited is apparently defunct; the company was based in Kirkland, Washington but we believe this footage was shot at Sky Sports Airport in Issaquah. It's not clear precisely why this film was made, what it was titled or whether a version of it was ever released with a soundtrack; this print appears to be an incomplete "rough cut" complete with grease pencil marks.
No opening credits. A glider lies in the grass. Two little girls stand with one another watching a small air show. A bi-plane flies by and sprays a trail of smoke. People sit on the grass and watch. A couple lean against a glider and talk. Another bi-plane, in the paint scheme of a U.S. Navy training aircraft, lands (:09-1:22). Bi-plane's propeller spins. People sit at a table. A Snoopy stuffed animal. A man smiles. Bi-planes parked including an N3N-3, tail N9308Z. Two people walk on grass as a man parachutes down in the distance. People look skyward. The parachute lands on the ground. Men discuss. Another man parachutes down (1:23-3:06). Sign for: Soaring Unlimited Office. A camper. A woman reads. Two men talk and walk. A man enters a glider tail # N65865 -- a Schweizer S65-233A glider. A man explains to the one in the glider what is going to happen. A line is placed from the glider to an airplane, a Cessna 150J, tail N12MM. The man is ready in the glider. The line tightens. A man gives thumbs up, waves the glider on. The glider is pulled by the plane (3:07-5:25). POV from inside the glider as it goes into the air. The plane continues to pull the glider behind it. Control panel in the glider. Aerial shot above a lush valley. A hand pulls a button in the glider. The glider sails through the air, POV from the glider (5:26-7:16). Control panel. Aerial shot from up high. Glider spins and turns. Glider sails through the air and then turns (7:17-8:42). Control panel inside a glider. Glider flies through the air. Snow capped mountain. Glider soars along over a rich, green forest (8:43-10:25). A guy on a little scooter pulls a glider along the grass. Glider N93564 comes in for a landing on the grass. Glider is pulled on the grass by a plane and then helped into the air by a plane. Glider flies along in the air. Up high in the sky, a glider soars (10:26-12:05). Glider in the air, a mountain in the distance. Off the wing of the plane, the glider glides through the sky. Glider flies by the plane (12:06-13:22). Glider flies through the sky in the distance. Glider flies. Sun sets in the distance. Glider passes to the left of the plane (13:23-14:55). Control panel from inside the plane. POV from the plane down to the ground/forest below. Man inside the plane. Below the plane onto the ground. Plane glider in the sky (14:56-15:53). POV nearing the landing site. Glider heads for the ground. Glider lands on the ground. This is not Kirkland but Skyport in Issaquah, I remember it when I was a kid, ,you can see 1-90 and the gravel pit in the background Lakeside industries owned.

Yep 👍. I remember driving down the highway and seeing parachutists above us. This airpark was originally part of Pickerings Farms.

Great video, but that field was Sky Harbor in Issaquah, not Kirkland. Kirkland's airport closed in 1952 and Issaquah in 1984.

I remember being in Elmira NY in the summer of 1977 while my father got certified on gliders. I got a couple rides too but the most exciting is when i hopped along in the Super Cub tow plane. First time i went inverted in an airplane.
