Is there progress in Zen practice?

  • 3- The third question relates to the first one. I have never experienced zazen in a retreat setting where I would spend days doing nothing but zazen and I think that this affects my idea of zen practice. It seems that retreats exist for some reason to deepen the practice yet also I read that zazen is good for nothing, zazen never becomes something special and that the beginner's zazen is just like that of the masters. I guess this question also relates to making distinctions. Is zazen something that develops or is it something that has to be grassped at once? Or is it both?
Again, thank you very much for what you provide us with. It is for me like the only source of light in the darkness of my mind.

Trying to explain things that are beyond words … always the challenge. Third time watching your series answering questions and there is always new learning. Thank you Muho!

That's where Zazen is not only the realization of who you are but also of what you did in the past.

I'll give you the answer by analogy. I asked my initial Roshi if I should be vegan. He said yes, yet Gautama ate anything he was given! :)

No that is solipsism which is European thought. But someone from say Pure Land Zen must certify I got their respect. Because frankly we're kind of the same.

There's an old Romanian folk tale that has to do with separating grains from scummy stuff... Not important to investigate the tale in question. Obviously I'd search Set Theory filters/separators, which I haven't studied that well.... :)

I strongly recommend be careful on that aspect.... :) It is not what's usually depicted as. Not at all.

Mot-a-mot transliteration. It just means you sit there and don't disturb people. Anti-materialist if you wish. I think that's universal in monasticism. You don't disturb others.

Repeat that loud sir. It is kind of a sad ending to express myself in that way....

The absolute answer is no. Master is what it is in english language. Same meaning. :)

No there isn't that's my intuition. Because that's what you are doing all the time. I'm mindfulness for example. But you cannot teach, if you cannot teach and you must not teach if you cannot teach. :))

There's no meaning of life in Zen, sir. That's not in the vocab. Why? Because you enter Zendo you're grown-up adult. You're born you don't know who you are or that you are.
