People overthink things way too damn much and let their hateboners for YG distract them from good music. This song was completely YG. It was also completely 🔥🔥🔥 as the numbers show. Sometimes you just need to turn your brain off and enjoy things.
Go watch their pre debut song Dream which is vocal heavy. Also they just dropped a Christmas Special, Christmas without you, which is vocal centered. Rami and Pharita vocals is insane on their Christmas Special.
Batter Up is smashing all time records. Fastest 100 million views in kpop debut history. YG knows what its fans want. Rap heavy hip hop with the YG DNA. This is what the girls trained for, to be YG performers.
Haters were looking for anything to bash this debut. Bottom line, the debut was a success
Yeah it's a nice one two punch between Ruka and Asa for the rap line. Asa my bias. Good news is ahyeon is coming back.
You can always trust that the YG Party Chorus will show up!
I suggest to also watch and react to "Dream", their official pre-debut song and M/V. There we got a vocal heavy slower and more emotional track very different from the "YG formula". I was not surprised that their actual debut title track now is a "YG style" song. Babymonster was supposed to represent the "YG DNA" after all and we already had "Dream". YG gets hate regardless of what they do, but the formula works at least. They modernized it just enough to fit Babymonster, got a killer rap verse and let their vocals shine through the mix, but I can understand that its not everybodies cup of tea and that it doesn't give Babymonster a unique enough identity yet. A second debut track (like Blackpink had "Whistle") or at least a B-Side with a very different direction would've helped a lot. The whole debut (including the lack of real promotions or music show appearances) in general feels rushed and badly managed to me. Their pre debut marketing was perfect, so that is a bit of a bummer. But I really like "Batter Up" and I'm looking forward to their first comeback. Btw. they also just released an adorable Christmas Special (besides a lot of other content like a 3-part behind the scenes for the M/V and a M/V reaction).
Babymonster is single album song already brake the 1st debut record , their MV hit 22.4M views within 24hr. Non of kpop MV can match with YG style and their MV only use original set instead like other use CG on their MV.
RORA, RAMI and AHYEON are my favorite vocalists/members in BABYMONSTER
No music shows promotion because during dec. Music shows are closed. Maybe they will soon debut at music shows appearances next year. But I must commend YG's effort for compensating this no music show by making their own stages.

Not appearing on Inkigayo-Music Bank-M Countdown does ≠ "Lack of promotion". What percentage of the fandom actually goes to these studios to see the "promotions"? For 95%+ of the fandom they are just performance videos watched on YT showing off the choreo and different outfits. They have released performance, dance practice, multiple special stages including a "live" performance, a Christmas cover and multiple BTS vids all within the first month, I feel the fandom has been fed exactly what they would have gotten from being on the various music shows if not more than could have been expected.
YG didn't just pick the girls in Babymonster, the girls also picked YG. From what they expressed in the introductions, most if not all of them had dreams of being kpop artists that were interwoven with YG. Thus was either straight up because of the hiphop roots and character of YGE, or because they are inspired by Rosé or Lisa or other individuals in the organization who embody that character. Why should anyone be surprised or disappointed that they would debut with a well made song with a strong YG flavor?

Ahyeon is sick. I am thinking she and YG took a High risk strategy with her High vocal range training in long strectches. The long term recovery does suggest she has a physical injury. I think she burned her vocals. The big question is if she can recover enough to fit into that High range or she will debut as a mid range rapper singer.

I only just noticed watching this reaction - Pharita's skirt has the EU flag. Now I'm just confused... Like I've never seen that in clothing, at least not like the US flag gets plastered into everything.
