I worked for the Hudsons Bay Co in1961 on the Stikine River at Telegraph Creek. Our supplies came up the river from Wrangell Alaska on the
riverboat the Judith Anne in the summer and we were snowed in all winter ,only way out by dog team.I trained as a fur grader and buyer and got
around in summer by freight canoe-a great life for a fit young guy.

Damascus is a "pattern weld" combining two different iron/steel being forge welded together. Folding is not required to produce it. Folding will simply affect the pattern.
Regarding Scots up North. Due to their natural aversion to water, both in drinking and bathing, they had to hire Frenchmen to paddle their canoes and do the heavy lifting. ;)

Best to talk to the Booshway ahead of time. Avoids any issues. At our rendezvous it is unlikely to be a problem

You sound pretty defensive just going into this.
I would offer that, given the unique nature of the instrument itself - from mode of construction, materials, and especially unique sound, not to mention the specialized circle breathing required to play it, and it's conspicuous absence from any journal or oral history (red or white) that we DO KNOW they didn't exist here. The onus would be on you to prove they did.
While they existed, there were no Mongollian archers here, either.
