Thanks for this, I had my distal radius fracture 8 years ago and in a few weeks am going to get the plate and screws removed as I have 1 ruptured tendon and multiple screws in multiple compartments past the distal cortex. I see the hadn't specialist surgeon in 10 days and can not wait for this to be over.

Jaxx i had my plate removed 2/8/19. I’ve had pretty significant loss of motion with my thumb since the removal. Doctor said it was “arthritis” post surgical arthritis!??? Feeling frustrated!

@@indiscriminatethoughts2162 I ended up having all my tendons in my wrist reconstructed, when they opened me up it was so bad. My hand surgeon said it was the worst he had ever seen, it was so extreme. I had a 6 month recovery where I was not allowed to do anything except hand exercises. I also have arthritis in my wrist and the movement I have now is the best it will become. We are coming into winter here and it is so sore on the colder mornings. They did mange to remove all the screws and plate. A lot of the pain has gone thankfully, but like you the arthritis is only going to get worse over the years. I am a nail tech so it is so frustrating... Hope you are doing ok with the Covet 19, We are in lockdown here (going into 3rd week) with only essentials open. We are allowed to go for a walk within a 2k radius of where we stay. Its pretty scary for so many businesses going bust with this lockdown and job losses are so bad as well. We are lucky I work from home and didn't have many clients due to only being allowed to start clients in January and my husband is able to work from home. Take care

Jaxx awe. I’m so sorry you’ve had so much trouble. We are under the exact same protocol here in Washington state. My husband, unfortunately, is essential 💔 I wish he were able to be home. God bless you and stay safe!!!

I am also having mine removed soon and I appreciate your perspective. Has more of your range of motion returned? I also have the post-operative arthritis. My doc is hoping to remove some of the arthritis when he gets in there. I hope you are doing well now; I am curious to see how your progress has been. Thank you!

The worse treatment to implement for wrist fracture as I had severe complications. I Had also femur rod plate got it out due to severe pain. I recently had the distal radius bone fracture surgeon volar plate and now I was told nonunion. ulnar wrist bone fracture k wire and when cast was removed k wire migrated and had to have surgicaly be cut at the wrist ulna and then orthopedic surgeon had extreme difficulty to remove k wire as the hook trapped deep to area. This caused nerve damage with severe sensory to to my ring and pinky finger and also unable to deviate and pronate or turn palm up or down due to severe pain and to Ulnar-Sided wrist. As soon as I can I will be having a second referal with orthopedic to remove volar plate as I also have seve pain to my entire hand and fingers due to the tendons. However I have been denied MRI scans 5 times to further investigate pain, numbness, pins and needles and elbow pain.
I have also took the initiative to assure that Emergency Department of my region personal data base not to operate any kind of future fracture in using any kind of fixation such as volar plates, screws, rods and ect.
This method of healing fracture is the worse.
I opt to heal any kind of fractures as it was done prior before all of this new moderate ways to mobilize fracture started. Even if It takes more the 6 months to heal I rather have the bone heal naturally as we used to do it 30 to 40 years ago.

Was the plate causing pain in the hand? Since surgery (4 months ago) I've had nerve pain in my hand under certain circumstances

First I’m mechanic 😉idk how much screws can hold that bone but if was a tube let’s say Aluminum that have many problems due to less elasticity and not so strong…. I put another plate up bounded with the plate under with 2max 3 screws more to make sure that have no chances to move from his position….. and maybe for the to much screws I put inside the tube a solid tube so the screws and the hole system hold 😜ps : idk if possible to live inside the bone a solid titanium tube and if this weigh make problems it be 100 grams + for sure 😜was a suggest 😉you very Smart I’m sure you find a way 😘Thx keep on the nice job 👍
