I did the exact same thing to my Fastrak, same mounting, same window motor. It looks real simple, and it is, but the exact placement of the pivot points, arm length, point-of-pull on the flap and where the hinges are relative to the motor shaft are all critical for it to pull hard and have good leverage. I used 3/16 (already had it) and three 2” weldable hinges, mine is heavier and runs a bit slower, Amazon window motor is kinda weak on the lift/open, but its much quicker when the blades are helping blow it open. Might switch to a wiper motor?
I was thinking some kind of solenoid but this is going to be less of a hammer movement. My thoughts were it would be best to drop the pole mechanism because it would be in the way. I did consider a pedal to actuate but again, electric is better!
This is great ideal which window motor is it , what type vehicle. I want to do this very same mod to my JD Z997R. How did you wire the switch up to the motor?
That one came out of a Tahoe but any window motor will work . And the wiring i kept the window motors original connector and cut the wires on the other side . They are only 2 wires and I wired them to a forward and reverse toggle switch and wires the switch to a key turn on auxiliary wire on mower and other one is just grounded to frame. That way it kills and connects the power with the mowers key switch.
Hey man I love the design! I just built one off your video and I’m wondering how you keep it closed with the blades on. With my chute closed it flaps a little bit with the mower running. Are the pivot points on the steel arms steel free swinging or did you weld the L?
@@fsllandscaping8061 I think he's asking how you connected the pivoting arm to the gear on the motor. It looks like you welded it but correct me if I'm wrong.
Now that's what I call original. This dude's outside the box and I love it
This is a great idea. I'd love to see a how to video!
Best idea I’ve seen yet, I’m stealing this idea. Thank you.
Hi! What makes 90 degrees rotation and stops? Is there a limiter switch or windows motors stops itself soon as it gets a tension?

This is a very nice design, makes me want to try something myself
Great set up. Are you able to provide a parts list? And make a video on how to build it.
looks more durable and simpler than the green guards!
Can you show us how you wired it would love to build one but I get lost on wiring

so you had to weld the motor onto the deck? That's same motor they use in RV steps..very cheap

Also note the switch has to be a forward and reverse , not sure the correct name of switch but its not just a on and off switch , those won't work.
Thanks for the reply
@@fsllandscaping8061 Thank you for this information!

Do you weld the arm that raises and lowers the chute cover to the gear on the window motor? Hard to tell in the video. Thanks!
Can you stop that flap half way?

Welded. That's what keeps the pressure on it from flapping. Also can put dampers on it to free blow air and not grass
do you get any blow out from the chute?
What make an model car did the motor come off of. Front or rear window
How did you mount the motor shaft to the strip steel
Drilled a hole and tapped a pin thru it
Did you weld something to put over the shaft then put a pin through it
I am going to put it on a toro grandstand. I watched one of your videos and saw your toro so I am wondering how you put it on
I made a bracket for the motor and bolted it where the factory flap bracket is.

Would any make and model window motor work?
Thank you and subscribed!
how would I power one for a ferris fw15?( no battery )
you could get you a battery like this one and just plug it into a battery maintainer when you are done mowing.
Wow and to think green guard charges about 400$
Need to lay off that booger sugar my guy but great job
