Oh my, this has just made my whole week! There are few things I love more than connecting with the music of a new (to me) musician. While listening to this song the first time, it made me feel the same kind of deep emotional currents that I feel when I hear a decades-old favorite. I'm not sure I've ever been hit quite so strongly, so quickly. My relationships with songs tend to evolve much more slowly than this.
This is a song that reached out and grabbed me with all the power, warmth, and relatability that epitomize the best of the blues. Before the song was over, it had wrapped me in that old familiar bittersweet melancholy that seems much like comfort food for the soul. And that's especially timely this year, when we're all needing whatever comfort we can find.
Mr. Wood, my hat's off to you, and I'll be thanking you for a long time yet to come. And now, if you'll excuse me, I believe I need to go shopping for a few CDs.
