Seen her back in the mid 80’s. My dad was cool. I was the only kid in high school, if not Canada, that listened to Fergie, Judy Small, Connie, Fearing, James Keelaghan, Eric Bogle… man, we were at W.I.S.E. often!! Now my kids are listening to the same. I have been looking for this song for years ever since my dad told me about this song, he called “The South Saskatchewan River “. He told me he had to pull over from driving he was so overcome by this song. I don’t blame him! Btw, I attended Louis Riel Jr High in Calgary, Alberta. The naming of the school was controversial at the time. My own grandparents told me Riel was a “traitor”. He had a prominent display with the large picture of him in that plaid overcoat. I always thought Louis Riel looked very cool in that picture.
my family fought in batoche with the metis against our government if im correct it was my grandmas grandpa who was there and rode in riels entourage from montana to batoche he was also very close to him
OMG thank you for posting, and with a superb production to boot! Gives me chills. Criminally forgotten song, obviously you recognize it. Is this song the original? I'm in the US, where this battle, and this song, and Connie are essentially unknowns.
This is one of my favorite songs, and beautifully sung. Why it never became a #1 hit is a mystery to me.
Thank you, Connie. And thank you, Lawrence.
Thanks for sharing. Love this song.
Thank you for creating this. One of my favourite songs and places.
... enjoyed connie live many times, she's very funny! Recently the Canadian government pardoned Pound Maker, but not Big Bear. I wondered why...?

Thanks, David! Great to know there’s a school named after him. Thanks for the feedback too.
