I drove on the Dempster Hwy this summer up to Tuktoyaktuk. A little quicker than I wanted to (13 day round trip from Toronto), but glad I did it. The Yukon is now my fave province, and I do plan to go back in 2 yrs (2026). I loved camping off the side of the Dempster in Tombstone and after Eagle Plains (although was anxious about grizzlies). Thankfully, only issue was a cracked windshield on my 4Runner due to careless trucks from opposite direction ($1K deductible 😢). But my gas mileage was decent at 14.5L/100kms. A really beautiful province.
@@zalllon Glad you had a great time! I also hope to go back...maybe in 2026 as well. I did see a grizzly while driving on the Dempster so they are definitely up there. Even in the Summer I imagine it was pretty chilly at night, so props for the rooftop tent camping! When I was there in very early September, it was already about 24F overnight where I was near Engineer Creek, and I was surprised it was that cold so early in Autumn. I also lost a windshield, but not on the Dempter. I had TWO rocks crack my windshield within minutes of each other and I think it was somewhere between Dawson City and Carmacks. Down here in the states, Geico is going to cover it and they SAID it was only going to be a $50 deductible, but I haven't taken it in yet. We'll see if the rate is really that low. Jealous that you made it all the way up to the arctic ocean! I might have to try that in 2026!
This was stunning Yo! The aurora reminded me of angel wings moving, so beautiful! I can't wait to see your next you tube. The vistas of the Yukon were crazy amazing😮❤😊
So second video I have watched and I like your content. I hope you continue making videos. The aurora is beautiful but for me is much more of a distraction for photography but I do enjoy looking at the pictures. Unless I make a trip like you are doing, just did, I don't think I would have any on my walls. The sky just feels wrong, beautiful no doubt, but wrong. When I look at photographers pictures of the aurora I am not sure what the subject is, I don't know what story they are trying to tell me. I am torn between the aurora and the mountains, or, etc... It is more like some kind of psychedelic dream or nightmare. You know, the sky is falling... Anyway, great trip thus far. Waiting for the next one to drop.
Thanks so much for watching, George. One of the great challenges of trying to shoot the aurora is that it's extremely difficult to set up a composition ahead of time because you have no idea of what the aurora will actually do when it goes off. By the time you actually find a comp that will work for the aurora in front of you, the sky could change again and the moment is gone. I think much of what we see online is a result of photographers who will take an aurora shot and then just paint it in over a different foreground. I haven't done that yet, but I've definitely thought about it as it's just so frustrating trying to get everything to line up for a nice comp. Some of my favorites have been in Norway, but I've not been very lucky with my two trips there so far. I'm hoping for a third attempt this Winter, specifically to get more aurora opportunities, but we'll see. If I got a shot from a place like Tungeneset in Sejna with the sky going off, that sucker would definitely be on my wall. 🙃
Thank you so much for watching! I have subscribed to your channel as well. It was definitely an amazing trip. Ironically, I am currently shooting waterfalls here in France for the next couple of weeks along with the French and Swiss Alps. There are a large number of waterfalls in the Jura Mountains, close to the Eastern border of France. I am finding that there many similarities to the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon, and the leaves are now changing color. Also...I visited the Cirque du Fer a Cheval two days ago and counted EIGHT waterfalls on one massive wall on my way into the park. I'll be headed back there again this week. After I get back to the states, I am definitely hoping to visit a number of the waterfalls on your channel!
Great video series. I was up (from Alberta) in the Yukon (Ross River/Faro area) for a hunting trip between September 1 and 15 this year. Such an amazing land up there. Can’t wait till the next time.
Thanks Joseph! I wasn't prepared for the amount of color I found in early September. I would imagine that you must have experienced the same thing. I'm sure you must be used to Autumn colors in Alberta, but from where I'm from in Southern California, it was mind blowing.
@@WJMPhotography Yes the colours were awesome up there -as usual, I'm sure! Alberta does have good colours in the fall for sure, in the foothills and ranges of the rockies especially. Not quite on par with the Yukon in my opinion, but its pretty great regardless.
I use a DJI Mini 3 Pro because it fits so easily into my camera bag, but I'm thinking of upgrading soon. I need something a bit larger and a bit more stable in the wind.

Forgot to note, 2022 TRD Off Road 4Runner with a roof top tent, and a couple of chilly nights (arrived at Arctic Ocean Aug 25th, 2024).
