    If you're wondering what Scott meant by "reasons" at 6:09 and why he showed his neck, its because he had a near fatal accident three years ago.
    Simply put, Scott was filming a video with .50 cal bullets that were (unknown to him at the time) tampered, and the rifle he was shooting blew up in his face. Amongst other severe injuries, his jugular was severed and was losing a lot of fluid.
    But by willpower and help from his entire family, Scott had a successful operation and made a full physical recovery.
    There's a video where he talks about the whole thing, very little graphic imagery, on his channel.

    To answer your question, shotguns are fired from the shoulder and fire many pellets. Cannons are usually mounted on a carriage, as they are too large to be fired from the shoulder. The Punt Gun definitely blurs the line between Cannon and Shotgun.
    Also, cannons can fire many pellets like a shotgun, but these have different names: from Grapeshot to Flechettes.

      If looking up the definitions, especially the old definitions: Cannons are the overall category of weapon and gun, howitzer, and mortar are the common sub-category. All guns are a type of cannon as they are meant to fire in a relatively flat trajectory directly at a target from the side. Whereas howitzers or mortars are low velocity cannons designed to fire at an arc and impact from the top.
      The definition has just become muddled over the years of misuse. Doesn't really have anything to do with size of the weapon since even a .22 or a bb gun would be categorized as a cannon under the definition.

    Wax slugs are typically where you take bird shot or buck shot and cast it in candle wax. When the wax hardens it holds the pellets together as if it's a slug and upon impact with the target the wax breaks up and allows the pellets to spread and distribute the energy.

    • @pawsvtuber

      Thank you for this! That's fascinating (and also sounds deadlier, damn)

    • @GregAtlas
      @GregAtlas 25 дней назад +3

      @@pawsvtuber You're welcome. Punt gun is going to be pretty deadly no matter what round you use, but it's more relevant with regular 12 or 20 gauge shotguns that would be more practical for self defense uses since you typically don't want to use actual slugs most of the time. I'm not sure about more deadly, but a lot of times it's described as stopping power.
      Slugs are good for punching holes into things, but for defense purposes, a shotgun slug will most likely overpenetrate, not dump enough of the energy into the target, potentially not cause enough damage to stop the target depending on where you hit, travel through a couple walls and travel through a neighbor or two before stopping. Using shot distributes the energy out more evenly and the wax just prevents spread until impact. Slugs are more ideal for armored targets since the armor distributes the energy in hopes to prevent penetration. Even if a shotgun slug doesn't penetrate the armor, it'll leave a very painful bulge in the armor and feel like you got kicked in the chest by a horse.
      That's not to say that slugs are ineffective against unarmored targets. It's just more efficient with shot.
      taofledermaus on RUclips has quite a few videos on wax slugs, but I suggest watching their "Shotgun Wax Slugs' Physics Explained - Reverse Granular Impacts" video to understand how it works.
      Another thing to note is that wax slugs aren't really needed most of the time unless shooting medium-long range. Shot does spread, but not nearly as much as what is depicted in games, movies, TV, and especially many anime. As you could see; even the punt gun in this video didn't hardly spread at all at the ranges shown, but it would spread out significantly enough by the time it reached some ducks in the sky.

      @Myomer104 18 дней назад +3

    Bear in mind Fury is a _small_ punt gun, being only a 1-gauge with a ~1.7-inch bore. The largest, Irish Tom, was a 4-inch bore (AA gauge), with the gun being 14 feet long and weighing 300 pounds. It has a screw-threaded breech like an artillery gun.
    Fury is legal because it's a muzzle-loading black-powder weapon and so can't be classified as a Destructive Device (more than half-inch bore), while Irish Tom used breechloaded cartridges.

    The engine and the wheels are the only parts of a car/truck that have enough metal to stop bullets/shrapnel.

    To answer your question on what is a wax slug.
    Some people, who did not have access to regular slugs (a solid ball projectile meant to be fired from a shotgun) wanted to have more range. They figured out if they fill their shotgun shell with wax, the wax would glue the shot pellets together and keep them from spreading out after the shot has been fired.

  • @Maddog3060
    @Maddog3060 18 дней назад

    Engines are the safest part of a car to hide behind because they're pretty solid metal components that can actually stop projectiles like bullets or fragments. The rest of your car... well, let's just say building for fuel efficiency means lighter, less dense materials... which is the opposite of what stops pieces of metal flying at the speed of sound.

  • @DelinquentChibi
    @DelinquentChibi 19 дней назад

    Engines are pretty safe to hide behind because of how much material is there, and so long as it's not running, there won't be any explosions or combustions to worry about. The engine block is basically just a massively thick, reinforced slab of steel as far as cover goes. Not literally, but the comparison is close enough XD

    So the difference between this and a cannon is mostly size, canons being a fair bit bigger. There is one massive cannon that has a 20 inch caliber (~51cm, according to Google) barrel, that shot roundshot (a solid ball of usually cast iron) that weighed 386 pounds each (175kg).
    To scale, the shot used here was 1 pound. This cannon is 386x bigger.

  • @jarkoer
    @jarkoer 3 дня назад

    Shotguns have this thing called a "choke" which act like the nozzle on a water hose. The spread can be wide or narrow depending on the choke. Most shotguns have chokes that can be changed out for other chokes if you want to change the spread. Other guns, like this punt gun, have an "integral choke", meaning that the barrel itself is acting like the choke. And recoil depends on a lot of different things. The exploding gun powder wants to leave the barrel because that's the path of least resistance, but the more resistance the powder encounters the more force is going to push back towards the shooter. So, yeah, basically the heavier the projectile the more recoil assuming that the powder charge is the same. If you didn't have a projectile at all in there, there would be no recoil at all and all you would see is a flash. But if the amount of resistance going forward down the barrel is the same or very close to the amount of resistance at the back of the gun, depending on how strong the metal of the barrel is to contain all that energy, then you could end up with an exploding bomb. You don't need to see the scar on Scott's neck to know that's a bad thing! LOL

    The spread of a typical shotgun (standard 28 inch barrel) at close range is often over-estimated. Under 20ft or so there is usually minimal spread with almost any load, but especially buck-shot. Penetration through walls is quite easy and you're not improving your hit chances much. What you ARE getting, assuming you hit, is a LOT of energy on-target, i.e stopping power. You have to push out to 50ft or more to really get an appreciable spread.

    I think the difference between a gun and a cannon is the firing method? With cannons you just load in the powder raw and light it with a fuse, while guns use properly shelled bullets, but I’m not 100% sure that’s correct purely because muskets exist and also use raw powder
    Maybe it’s fuse vs hammer, where guns use a hammer to ignite the powder while cannons just use a fuse

    But I believe this video is just So The power of the gun/ shot , can be demonstrated.

    Yet another VTuber discovers Kentucky Ballistics and I am happy for it. Maybe one day you'll come across his "near miss" video and learn about "stick a thumb in it"
    Also, Cannons are typically not a thing a person can carry and are not a thing an average citizen is allowed to own (technically) and shotguns are usually measured by bore gauge and shoot either a spread of small pellets or a slug (which is closer to a cannon shot admittedly). Layman's terms, Shotguns have a pretty big hole in the barrel but usually just shoot a bunch of small stuff, Cannons are illegal, shoot really big stuff and sometimes that stuff is explosive, other times it's a potato.
    (Edit: Today I learned it is actually legal to own a cannon manufactured before about 1860 to be used for “saluting.” So that’s neat and tomorrow I’ll be looking to purchase a 3” deck cannon for…saluting)
    (Side note: cars *shouldn't* go boom in an accident except in unusual events...that was more of a Ford Pinto thing that everyone just hears about second-hand these days)

    4:52 No difference between shotguns and cannons, literally the same system just at different scales.
    Shotgun bullet size is determined by using standard cannon shot/bullet/ball/load and dividing it down, so 12-gauge shotgun is 12 times smaller than standard cannon shot/bullet/ball/load, 10g is 10 times smaller, 8g is 8 times smaller, 4g is 4 times smaller, 20g is 20 times smaller ect.

    Typically the difference is the bore and how it's mounted. If it's hand held it's a shotgun. If it's mounted on a carriage or single then it's a cannon. This one since it is laid on a boat, it kind of straddles the categories.

    The Definition of a Cannon has to do with it's size. Anything that shoots something with a diameter greater than or Equal to 20milimeters is considered to be a cannon. A canon is basically just a giant gun.

  • @MarkGookin-zc7gz

    Since it's built,for commercial duck hunting from the turn of the 20th century, it's meant to take out ducks by the flock. It's supposed to be loaded with bird shot, about twice the size of a poppy seed. When it's fired from the opposite side of a pond or lake, the spread pattern covers an area about the size of a UPS truck.

    The engine block of a vehicle can withstand most cal rounds and absorb them via metal shield. Safer to hide beside something of a metal meat shield than a wooden table or thin piece of aluminum plating.

    as for whether or not the shot load affects the amount of recoil, I think it does at least a bit. Shooting 12 gauge slug vs. buckshot felt like there was more kick to me, it could have just been because of the powder load like that chatter said tho
