Truth Behind the Atomic Bomb | History Lessons with Christories Distefano

  • This week Chris Distefano AKA Christories is coming to you talking about the A BOMB ! That's right, the atomic bomb! Everyone thinks it was a direct response to Japan's attack of Pearl Harbor, but it wasn't! It was for many other reasons, such as the Treaty of Versaille, Nanjing Massacre and for not surrendering! We got FDR running the show, talking to congress to let us join the war, Winston Churchill telling us we got to help him with the Nazis, it's just a whole mess!
We finally get Russia to help and get a team together to create a bomb. Enter Physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer! He was not the father of the A Bomb but definitely a great father figure!! They make the atomic bombs, yes TWO bombs, in New Mexico even though it was called the Manhattan Project -- what?! It was very unfortunate, but yes we dropped TWO nuclear bombs.
Tell us what you think in the comments!

Also Chrissy, let's not forget tbe Japanese were ready to fight a land war to the last man, woman, and child. We actually dropped pamphlets all over Japan warning them of a massive bomb that can wipe an entire city with one bomb, they didn't believe it. So as a ditterent to avoid a inevitable land Invasion in Japan we dropped one, dropped more pamphlets and again the emperor said no way do they have another one, well we did, but not a third. A few days later, the emperor of Japan signed a surrender on the deck of a US aircraft carrier. When we went ashore and there is video of this, the entire coast line was packed with sea mines, trenches, gun towers, underground tunnels, barbed wire, trip wires, amd anything else you can possibly think of. General McArthur even said it we could have possibly lost 1 million men on both sides in an invasion of Japan. Luckily, it didn't come to that. The nuclear bomb saved more lives multiplied by 100s then it took. Also the Nazis were 3 months away from a nuclear weapon. We bombed there heavy water plants and set them back considerably.

He kinda glossed over the fact that part of the reason the US waited so long to join the war was because many wanted Hitler to win so he could destroy the Soviet Union. Even when intelligence agencies first knew about the concentration camps the US was still unwilling to join. But then Hitler's Operation Typhoon failed in October 1941 and the Russian Winter began. Only then did the US start changing it's mind and then 2 months later Pearl Harbor happens. Now that's eyeopening.

So as outright brutal and shocking as the nukes were, (and maybe they could have dropped them somewhere else, I dunno) the months long, grinding urban fighting from an invasion would have been much much worse in terms of total human suffering and destruction.

It's almost deceptive how quickly and fairly you dealt with this. And how even... ten years ago, even NOW there are people repeating the same old refrains all about the bombs. When in reality, the situation is pretty transparent.

I wrote a research paper on this topic my junior year of college. This is 100% spot on. Truman’s military advisers told him Japan would surrender once Russia joined the effort, estimated within 3 months. You can read the meeting minutes of the president, his advisers, members of the Manhattan project, etc discussing their plan. Wild shit.

I LOVE CHRISTORY! Shoutout from Cape Town, South Africa! Yes. Drop the bomb, burn your fingers, understand where things can go. It gets messy, real fast, so you can fix it real slow.
