From what I understand, most of the staff from Alphadream were rehired by Nintendo EPD after the studio closed. So I think it's actually pretty likely that Mario & Luigi is being made by one of Nintendo's internal EPD teams with a lot of the original devs.
    Just speculation, but worth considering.

Me thinks it was cheaper to hire the developers one by one than to buy out AlphaDream and it's debt. I mean the debt wasn't THAT big compared to Nintendo as a whole. (Would barely make a dent in their massive war chest) Maybe most of AlphaDream's debt was held by Nintendo, so they killed the company to save the employees? (Definitely an inverse of most video game companies as of late)

Everything that had been missing on it and we had expected on previous consoles (mainly handhelds like 3DS) has now made an appearance: a Mario & Luigi game, a new Mario Party that isn't messed up, all DKC games are now playable, a new 2D Zelda, and Metroid Prime 4 is finally coming. None of these are "big" releases (other than Metroid Prime 4), so we should see the grand announcements next year with the Switch 2. Konami practically doesn't care, Square is a flip between if they do or don't (and to be fair, they've been a lot better lately about trying to preserve games), Nintendo still isn't all that great at it but is getting better, and Namco I would say is the absolute worst. I think people’s expectations for Prime 4 might be too high. Metroid Prime has always been a lot slower than something like Halo. Its greatest strength is the setting and tone. People expecting a giant action game will probably be let down. I think the best thing Retro could do is have a great multiplayer mode. People who get into Metroid Prime hoping for a FPS could be satisfied if it’s got a robust multiplayer mode when the story is still about exploration. There’s a reason Metroid has never been a huge sales success. Despite being one of the most influential game series, it’s still niche.

I’m sorry, but if you seriously think you need to confront your enemies head on to be a “bad ass”, you need your head checked and priorities sorted out. Zelda’s way, making use of her intellect and wisdom in the new game, is more than bad ass enough. She doesn’t need to be a traditional fighter to be strong.

Honestly, this recent Direct was excellent! Literally some of the best announcements we have had! New Mario & Luigi RPG, Metroid Prime 4 finally revealed, New Zelda game where Zelda is the main protagonist, Marvel Vs Capcom collection, Fantasian and Hello Kitty Island breaking free from Apple Arcade, and Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D! So many great announcements!
Sure, we did get some stumbles what with Nintendo Switch Sports Basketball, the Game Mill Looney Tunes game, and Metal Slug Attack, but the positives outweighed the negatives here. Though one of the more disappointing things for me was the lack of any updates on Pokemon Legends Z-A. I know that The Pokemon Company has a mind of its own, but even Pokemon games get a spotlight in a general Nintendo Direct occasionally...
Anyway... Can't wait for the new Denpa Men to arrive on Switch next month! Oh, and points taken off for mentioning Last of Us and Last of Us 2. Because reasons...

    - Tales of the Shire spoke directly to my hobbit heart, I can't wait to try it out.
    - Stray! I've played it on steam, but it's one of my favourites and if you love cats you'll enjoy this one a lot! It's such a good adventure with a nice story and plenty of kitty quirks!

I’d say this was definitely the best direct in a long while. While the 2023 ones were solid, there’s no denying that there were a bit too Mario-centric, with the biggest heavy-hitters being Super Mario RPG, Mario Wonder and Paper Mario TTYD. But here they not only continue the Mario RPG train with the long-awaited return of Mario&Luigi, but a brand new 2D Zelda where you play as Zelda, a new Mario party, and of course, ending with our first real glimpse of Prime 4. And that’s on top of all the exciting third-party stuff like Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D (and remakes of 1 and 2 next year as well), Ace Attorney Investigations Collection, Fantasian and Marvel Vs. Capcom Fighting Collection BABEEEEEY. With the first half of the year being pretty port and remake heavy and it most likely be the Switch’s last full year, most people (including me) were just expecting more of the same. But I’ve never been more glad to be proven wrong, and it’s suffice to say that the Switch is gonna go out on a bang.👌🏽Like, it’s getting more games on its SEVENTH year than either PS or Xbox on their 4th, which’s totally bonkers.

@@Matanumi They're Mochtroids, not Metroids, and those were only in Super. Timeline placement is murky but it's not impossible for the game to be set either after Federation Force, as was expected, or after Super (Tanabe suggested in 2015 that he wanted Prime 4 to riff on Prime 2 but with time travel instead of light/dark worlds, so it's possible that explains why there are still Space Pirates after Super - they've been brought forward in time, perhaps)

The problem with doing a Kid Icarus: Uprising sequel is what Ash mentioned about what could be holding back a remaster, you'd lose much of the original's charm by recasting everyone. Unfortunately, Nintendo's *MUCH* cheaper about voice acting than they were back when Uprising was made. Even looking at Smash, most of the returning characters from that game are either uncredited (Pit/Pittoo) or recast (Palutena, Viridi, etc.). Not to mention that Sakurai's likely busy with Smash 6 at this point.

Jon was right, there was no way people remember all the cool stuff that happened in the Direct. it's like they had a little of something for everybody, including games that went to a bit of obscurity. Denpamen was a deep cut, but not as much of a deep cut as Phantom Brave. NISA's (at least for western audiences) One-off SRPG, that was made back in the days when Disgaea was still a relatively new series. Now after nearly 20 years, they actually come up with a brand new followup to the game, making it a series. (Apparently, 12 years ago Japan had some browser game of Phantom Brave, but I heard it did real poorly.) The first one did get a port to the Wii, and then ported to modern systems like the Switch, as part of their Prinny collection series. Kind of like how Nippon Ichi recently revived Rhapsody a Musical Adventure (to finish the trilogy), I thought there was no way they'd revisit Phantom Brave.

    1. the first entirely new 2D _Zelda_ game in over a decade: _amazing._
    2. Zelda herself is the protagonist; cool, I guess… I’m not sure how I feel about the “echo” mechanic… it looks like it could get tedious, especially the UI, like scrolling forever to find the specific object you want… hope not. and I _do_ hope Link shows back up at some point in the game, or Zelda just gets a sword 🤷🏻‍♂️
    3. it’s the same art style as the _Link’s Awakening_ remake: ehh… I didn’t really like it then, and it looks only mildly better now… it’s just too shiny. the world looks less rigid, though, and Zelda’s movement looks better than Link’s, like they added transition frames when changing direction, etc 👍

I’m asking because I noticed gba Mario tennis and golf are not on nso yet and I’m thinking maybe Nintendo will just do a hd/4k remaster of GameCube Mario golf and tennis with 2025/26 since over 10 million people owns switch golf and tennis and they announce gba golf and tennis around those possible remasters. This just a tinfoil theory because it would be smart to repeat what they did for switch 1 with wiiU ports but with GameCube and 3ds ports. Like for example f-zero gx remaster, both gcn star Fox remastered, Kirby air ride, kid Icarus, both 3ds Kirby, Sami’s returns, Luigi mansion 1 hd, Zelda ww/tp with link between worlds. All those games can fill out 2 years worth with new games in between for switch 2
