Musical “Ikiru” Production Announcement

Daiwa House presents the musical “Ikiru” at the New National Theatre, Tokyo from September 2023. The production announcement was held on June 20, with Masachika Ichimura, Takeshi Kaga, Ryota Murai, Rio Uehara, Nana Takano (Ongakuza Musical), Rion Misaki, Shoichi Fukui, and Shingo Tsurumi on stage (Genki Hirakata, who was scheduled to appear, was absent due to health concerns).
This is an original musical from Japan, created in 2018 based on Akira Kurosawa's 1952 film “Ikiru,” about an ordinary man nearing retirement who, on the verge of death, tries his best to live out the last six months of his life in order to realize his last found dream. At its premiere in 2018, the production was acclaimed as “a monumental tour de force of a domestic musical”, and was revived in 2020, running for a total of 38 performances despite being at the mercy of the Coronavirus pandemic. Then in 2023, it will make its long-awaited return to the stage.
