I also dig the work of Patrick Gleason...I have the Star Wars, although with a different cover...my favourite re imagining of his is Holst's the Planets...cheers
Wigwam was a great band, still have my copy of Nuclear Nightclub on vinyl. Yet another example of an excellent artist that’s not available on streaming services. Jim Pembroke was an English musician, born in London. He moved to Kansas City in the mid 90s after marrying a woman from the US. Died there in 2021 at age 75.
Can't remember if you've shown any Jim Pembroke solo albums here. There's some great music in them. 'Corporal cauliflower mental function' is prob my fav album by him. 'Pigworm' also a good one. And yeah, he was born in UK, lived most of his life in Helsinki and then later moved to Kansas where he passed. I have most of the Wigwam albums and I do enjoy em. Tasteful musicianship on those albums, esp love Ronnie Österberg's drumming. Should get 'Tombstone Valentine' though. That's the one I'm still missing. Cheers Dereck!
There’s a PBS Newshour segment titled ‘Ohio city with Haitian migrant influx thrust into political spotlight’ that features the mayor acknowledging the strain on resources by those with the extended TPS. Of course what they gloss over is trade agreements and the flight of capitalists to countries with far fewer regulations and labor protections, that obviously allow for exploitation - as well as the hollowing out of cities like Springfield. We’re seeing already out here on the west coast (not sure about other places) the commercial real estate ghost towns, where entire shopping malls and business corridors are boarded up with lease signs everywhere. Scapegoating Haitians is not going to help anyone cope with the reality of US collapse. Thanks for the Wigwam reminder. It’s interesting to see the themes in the song titles from way back in ‘74 on Being.
Hey, Dereck I agree with you and the person who made a comment about political news and social media. Time to get off the social media. It's crazy to think people blindly follow two crazy people. The cult doesn't understand how very dangerous Trump and Vance are. I don't understand why people follow them. Anyway, thankfully, music and books can heal us so we can move past things and be better people. We aren't made to see everything at once, and social media and news just keep pushing all kinds of stuff at us, and we can get overloaded because it's way too much stuff all at once. We are not meant for that. So yes, time to cut that stuff off. But. Social media is good at trapping us, so we stay on and fight with people. So they can keep money off of us. Time for music, books, and meditation to help the body and mind. Anyway, I'll have to check out the Star Wars album by Patrick Gleason. Boris is an amazing band. Herbie Hancock is an amazing musician. I should pick random albums in my collection and just listen to them; that sounds like a fun idea. But I just recently got the Steven Wilson album To the Bone. Been enjoying that album a lot. I have a Steven Wilson book; I should get reading that book. I'll have to check out Wigwam.
Hello Dereck, Jukka Tolonen also played ina band named " Tassavallan Presidentii ". They recorded fantastic albums called Lambertland" and "Milky way moses". Best greetings, Werner
Dereck, question for you. Do you have any good jazz/blues/experimental recommendations for the Halloween season. I recently listened to Mule Variations by Tom Waits. "What's he Building in There" & "Black Market Baby" just seemed like a perfect vibes for a rainy October night.
@@dereckvon Patrick Gleeson's music is pretty eerie (in a good way.. to me anyway). I don't watch all of your videos but you always have great recommendations.
Wigwam is a very under appreciated band, Light Ages is one of my favorites. As you know Jukka Tolonen solo stuff is pretty good as well.

The Pembroke solo albums have eluded me.

Wigwam gave me a quick flash of Once and Future Band
