Thank you for an informative video - more than has been promoted by any other 'body'. As a mild 'rant', during the past two years it would not have been rocket science for HS2 to have installed webcams so that the public could have accessed the traffic conditions to make arrangements for journey routes and timings.
Thank you for keeping us all up to date with the plans of HS2 . I was very worried that some of the footpaths around Aylesbury would be cut off permanently, but it seems that the ones show on the map have footbridges to be installed.( do any engineers out there know the cost difference between a footbridge ,as opposed to a piped culvert tunnel ? I would have thought a tunnel would have been cheaper than a bridge for a narrow pedestrian tunnel , but as they have chosen footbridges instead than I am probably wrong. I hope we don't have to wait to much longer for our lovely paths to be reinstated.
Yeah, I'm sure it will look really good in a few years time. Down in the Colne Valley area they've re-greened the landscape as soon as was possible. Some of it doesn't look half bad after just a few months.
What is the planning ref that isn't approved ? I can only find 22/01576/HS2 on the council's aylesbury area planning portal, and that is listed as a Proved. Plus, I understood any HS2 schedule 17 planning applications have very limited grounds on which they can be challenged, and even then are assumed as approved if no such concerns are raised within 28 days of submission.
The planting will be all well and good in 20 years time, and only if they continue to replant the trees that die as saplings, unlike natural forest they will not reseed themselves for many many decades, Some of the planting already done by HS2 has already died and currently has not been replanted. The same can be said of the planting alongside new roads where in one place nearby a good 40 or 50% has either been blown over or died within the first 2 years.
Thank you so much! They closed A418 in the past 2 weeks and opened the road this morning. I am shocked to find that there is not much progress. Would you please investigate what they have done in the last 2 weeks using your drone footage? In the last 2 weeks, we had to take a long way to to visit Aylesbury central, taking 23min instead of 7 min!
Thanks for watching. The work carried out over that time was to connect services like water and electricity. The realignment of the road won't happen just yet. I believe that's happening in November. I will carry on with the updates though every few weeks.
@@KarlVaughan Thanks for your response! I see. No wonder there are no visual changes. I subscribed to your channel and turned on the notification. I look forward to your future video!
Hi - thanks for this. Was wondering if you knew what provision is being made for cyclists and pedestrians alongside the new section of A418. Will they be separated, or still shared use? I can't see anything on the layout map in the planning application. And also, what the plans are for the bits of the old road that won't be dug up? Thanks!
Thanks for watching. Looking at it on the ground I could see space for the shared path which looks about the same width as the one we have presently. As for the old road, I assume it will be just left with a fence at the edges of the railway cutting.
@@KarlVaughan thanks. A missed opportunity to add at least a short stretch of high-quality infrastructure. I suppose what's left of the existing road will have to stay to provide access for the properties along that stretch, and presumably there will be scope to build more once the works are finished.
No, I don't think so. Only the section where the railway line goes through as that will be a cutting there. The remaining sections of the road will serve the properties along there.
There are a number of fine detached properties that face onto the existing, busy Oxford road. I imagine, the road will need to be retained to provide access to them. I wonder if those residents are happy with this development ?. They will now have a busy road to the rear of their properties, but the tree planting should mitigate that quite a bit. On the other hand, they almost have a private road out front !.
As Karl has said a lot of the trees and shrubs will be native species but I wonder what will be the impact of climate change on some of the planting. You don't get a decent size oak tree within months and and they need water to survive.
I've added links to the planning documents in the description.
Thank you so much for your videos it really is so helpful and informative. You have put a lot of time and effort into them and it is much appreciated!
Thanks for your encouragement :)

thanks for this Karl. Have driven this road many times as a coach driver on the way to Leighton buzzard and Dunstable. Caroline

It's the same at the North Portal. That was a huge white scar which is now covered in grass.

Great update Karl, where do you find these maps? The ones on gov.uk don’t have this level of detail or colour coding
Thanks. The plans are from Buckinghamshire Council's planning portal.
@@KarlVaughancan you post a link? I've dug around and can't find anything for these plans
I will dig out the relevant links and add them to the video's description.

Agreed, I'm not convinced much after care will happen once all plants and shrubs have been planted up
