- Truth is often stranger than fiction, but rarely is that really the case in the bizarre make-believe
world of professional wrestling. Yet when it comes to the life and career of Tony Halme - best known for his run in WWE as Ludvig Borga - that genuinely is the case.

Yeah. I used to watch and consume ALL wrestling RUclips media.
I've been able to pare it down to Cultaholic and Fightful. I love Steve and Larson but them being West Coast American means their stuff is usually a few hours out if date by the time any news breaks. But I still watch their stuff just because I've loved those guys for years
Well put.
Need a dark side of the ring episode on this guy
Got to love how Vince decided to try and convince everyone that Finland was anti-American
In Vince's brain, anywhere that isn't America is Anti-America
Anyone foreign has been placed like that. Even if they aren’t the American audience cant help chant “USA”, when an opponent is from a different nation 😂
Very good work. Im from Finland, I've read all his books etc and you mentioned things that even I didn't know about. I say something nice about him - at the 90's when he came back to Finland to do random things he was so quick witted and entertaining as hell. After he went coma and woke up he wasn't the same.
Why was he in coma
@@buttmunchowsers Overdosed on pills and booze, was in coma for 3 weeks
Borga was the man
What books?
He wrote couple of books about his life - but I'm not sure if there's any of em in english@@humanipulationnation
As a finnish wrestling fan great job with this video had a lot of details that even i didn't know about Tony Halme. This type of deep details videos set this channel apart from others. Keep it coming and keep up the good work!
Being a wrestling fan who's half Finnish, it really bothers me that when it comes to Finnish pro wrestlers he's the only one I know and the most well known. Wish there was another big star from Finland
It's not Finland's fault, he made his own choices.
Well there are... but they are all from like 1910s to 1930s
@@lyylski For real. It's either they are from them or it's a Finnish-Canadian guy named StarBuck
@@DJ_Mooster At least we'll always have Lars Anderson who might be 2nd gen immigrant but he's still Finnish to me damnit

Truly incredible work, Adam!! Thank you for all you do!!
I knew Tony when I was training for National Level USA Bodybuilding Contests, Tony was was a serious person, he trained hard and tried to become a movie star. I saw it was a very motivated and interesting person.
Being a life long wrestling fan from Finland I truly wished some things could've worked out differently for him. Great work on the video.
What, not not being a POS in life?
Someone with “Exit Only” tattooed on their ass sounds like the definition of “thou doth protest too much” if I’ve ever heard of it.
Who exactly did he plan on having read that?
Thought the exact same thing.
Everyone in the showers of a Finnish swimming pool / bath complex thing.

You know what, I'll just leave 😂
@@MyNameIsUnavailable I wouldn't be at all surprised if they got together if their lives overlapped.
Just remember... He got a grown man to tattoo his ass so other grown men would immediately..

If you like Dark Side of the Ring, this is perfect for you. Great job guys!
This was a great watch. I love these sorts of videos from you guys. Any chance we might see one on Koji Kitao?
Imagine having to break up a fight between Ludvig and Norton... 😮
He did have a few boxing matches in Finland but he was very average and no one outside Finland knew him at all. People give him shit for losing to Randy Couture in the UFC but he was actually carrying an injury that made his already short training camp even shorter! Also Randy is a fucking legend and there's no shame in losing to him! I think compared to 97% of the people on this planet Halme is a killer!
Great recap. Greeting from Finland
These true crime videos are amazing. You should do something on Buck Zumhoffe.
Oh god yeah. That's someone who should rot under the prison

That guy by a small sliver makes Grizzly Smith look like a Saint by comparison
As a pro wrestling fan and a true crime (reporting) fan, I love this series.
Do you think you’ll ever do a Bruiser Brody special?
José Huertas González is a pig murder a Shame in PR wrestling
I remember him being brought in solely to feud with Luger during the whole Lex express thing. I actually loved the guy feuding with Luger oddly enough
At 1:41 I SERIOUSLY thought you said he grew up in the "loud and sorry region" of Helsinki 🤣
It might as well been
Funny to see this. I was just thinking about him pinning Tatanka with one finger the other day, lol
So intriguing. Really appreciate the effort and care put into these docs from top to bottom.
I have heard from a couple wrestlers in WWE, that unless one had issue with Halme, he was just kinda there, he did not have many friends in the dressing room, now I understand why, great work Cultaholic Crew. 👏
Halme doesn't needs to be likeable
So glad we have another true crime episode
I've enjoyed these True Wrestling Crime stories, more please.
Thank you for this. For the first decade of my childhood he was the epitome of a public "true man" appearing on TV constantly and being just this famous presence everyone knew. Then the next decade he became a sadder shell of himself year after year until his death.
Borga was only around for 6 months!?! I thought he was around longer than that. He made an impression on me back in 1993.
It was to fed to Lex Luger, he felt to be pushed huge
Hold up. He was in Die Hard With a Vengeance? I never knew
I recognized him watching it and just figured I was wrong
I did know him, but to see him bald is odd
Really?
@@GAURAV25855ifyHe was one of the terrorist on the trucks trying to get into Fort Knox .
WWF has employed many wrestlers , some crazy and hated, some drink and drug happy, some genuine, and some not. Someone commented that he made an impact in the six months he was in WWF. I completely agree.
Great content as always! Just a slight correction, he didn't enlist and shortly after leave the finnish army, he did his compulsory military service as do all finnish males between ages 18-29, we have conscription military service much like South-Korea or Russia. You either do military or civilian service(which at that time was much much longer than military service) or go straight to jail without going through go and collecting 200
Why it is a obligation ?
@@lexkanyima2195 Because long time ago Finland chose to go with conscription army rather than a professional standing army. Biggest affecting decision maker being almost 1000mile land border with mother russia and it's constant threat to the very existence of sovereign country of Finland
@@SankariQ ouch
Tony Halme was the first(and so far only) politician that got their motion passed on their first term in office here in Finland. He got through a law that stated "Veterans who served in our country's wars, will have all their funeral expenses paid by the government of Finland." It was also his one major campaign promise, making him the only politician so far that has mostly kept their campaign promises.
Tony Halme, when putting his motion forward to the government, is quoted in saying "These fuckers served, bled, and suffered in the front so that our country can be an independent state, and they can't even die for free?"
He was also a somewhat legendary in his vacation excapades. He was a victim of an attempted mugging by 12 maroccoan street thugs in Barcelona. He survived with minor injuries while beating 5 of the thugs straight to hospital while the rest fled in fear.
If I remember correctly, during that enncounter he got stabbed to his backside. Halme didn't notice it before the police arrived and delivered the news for him with a line of "Señor, there's a knife in your ass".
Cool story that I'd never heard of before. Sweet.
Great video. As bad as he was, he wasn't the worst of the Finnish Gladiators. Have a look for Virpi Butt, known as 'Timantti'.
great work guys!
he did not enlist. military service is mandatory for all males in finland.
NLinc legend online, but he had a career that just went. What a guy.
Damn!
I forgot all about this guy and didn't know any of his personal story.
As always, thank you for the work put in and a job well done.

Hey Pacitti and rest of the Cultaholic crew, out of pure interest; since most of the sources for this are only available in finnish how did you translate them? Did you use a finnish speaker for it or did you use translation platform? I mean if it's a machine/app it was frigging impressive since there wasn't really any facts really wrong, just slight misinterpretation. And just decade ago all the translation machines absolutely sucked with finnish, and that development is scary.
Oh god. Someone actually got the "exit only" tattoo?! 😂
THOR! THOR! EVERYBODY SHOUT THAT! THOR!
A man of culture I see
Luger V's Borga... Jeezus the mind boggles. In 1994 we had to endure HBK V's Bob Backlund on the house show circuit (I had the misfotrune to catch that twice) but Borga V Luger???? I have no doubt that would have been amongst one of the worst possible matchups any wrestling fan could have endured.
I actually saw them wrestle live back in 93. It wasn't as good as Steiners vs Quebecers but better than Johny Polo Vs Owen Hart by far.
Great job on this guys!
Tony was a good, hardworking, no-nonsence guy. Totally on his work.
Amazing haircut
I would've s...hot myself if i had that haircut too
When it all came crashing down it clearly hurt inside.
Hey man, not cool.
How do you know he didn't take a stand? It never helped to hide.
@@MyNameIsUnavailable because he isnt a real American?
@@tyrone5969 He fought for the rights of the Finnish man. He fought for what's right. He fought for his life.
He was a polarizing figure to say the least. Funny thing is, he is probably the most honest politician that there has been in finland for the past 30 years. Only thing he promised that he would do would be that he wanted to improve the living conditions of the winter war veterans. It was the only thing he wanted to do and he fought for it, and ultimately got it. He also made a really controversial speech at the parliament regarding pedophiles where he stated that all pedophiles should be castrated and have a stick inserted into their ass and throw them in jail for the rest of their miserable lifes. That shows that he really cared about the kids really like stated in the video.
He was a genuine funny man too and wasnt afraid to take a piss on himself on his later years. He did a comedy short series for the finnish broadcasting company YLE as part of some bigger comedy series where he would act as himself doing various jobs. (Tony Halme tv-lupatarkastajana is legendary one from the series) his comedy skills didnt end there. There was "major" movie made in finland called Ponterosa where he plays one of the leads and you can see he had talent for comedy thanks to his fast wits. The movie didnt do too good initially but that wasnt thanks to Halme, the plot is nonsensical to begin with but it has gathered a cult following and is named one of the best worst movies in finland ever.
In one of his books there is a famous exchange he had when he was working as a bouncer in hollywood with Madonna and Sean Penn. Tony claims he was given the order from club manager to not let anyone in on the vip section. Madonna and Sean tried to get in and Tony denied their entry. Madonna threw a fit and asked him. "Dont you know who i am.?" to which Tony replied. "I dont care who you are. It only matters who I am." And Madonna asked, "Well who are you then?" to which Tony replied, "Im the guy who is not letting you in."
Just wanted to share some good and funny things about him too. Im not defending him or his beliefs but these are the things i remember him the most. I was too young to see any of his wrestling stuff but i have seen later on some and his promos during his feud with Luger are pretty damn funny now.
I seriously love these true crime videos you guys have been doing!! Really glad you guys covered ludvig borga, he was not a good person.
but he was still AWESOME .........

I find it shocking how often they found unlicensed guns at his home and every time they took it away he just got himself a new one.
Gun laws don’t work
One thing that I dont get - is that most sources say that it was his ankle injury that ended his WWF-run, BUT he himself said that he hurt his back very badly wrestling with Scott Hall (Razor Ramon) - like Razor was trying to suplex him off the top rope and slipped and they both fell on the ground Scott in top of him.
Was it a botch
@@lexkanyima2195 Major botch
Take away his lifestyle of drinking, ideology, and violent tendency, he lived a really interesting life. From being a small time actor to wrestling in the biggest company to being a politician, I would say he led a great life.
Too bad his attitude and behavior is what caused him to be almost forgotten.
Solid
I think that's just how it works out, you can be driven and successful but that doesn't make you a good or bad person.
Kind of ironic that he was a bodyguard for Gene Simmons, who is Jewish.
4:15 He got THAT idea from Taxi Driver? A film where the whole point is that the protagonist’s mental health is decaying from living in a crime-ridden, alienating hellhole like 1970’s New York? Buddy…
For a minute there, I thought that was ol Jim cornette on the thumbnail 😂😂🤣😂
I’m just shocked hearing that Ludvig Borga was actually born Helsinki, Finland as rarely besides wrestlers from the UK, Japan, Mexico and Canada actually come from the country that they’re billed from like several wrestlers who were billed from the Soviet Union were actually from America in the 70’s and 80’s or in the 1950’s and 60’s you had wrestlers who pretended to be from Germany and played up the Nazi gimmick like Fritz Von Erich despite during the 50’s and 60’s most real Germans were trying their hardest to get away from anything to do with their Nazi past as they were ashamed of what had gone on in their country for at least a decade

Cultaholic Presents: Shadowed Side of the Ring...
I was almost sympathetic to the guy in the beginning... until it got to the SS tattoo on the back of his leg, and I'm just like "Yeah I'm good :)"
Could u imagine had WWE/F not dropping him? He coulda been a great heel, especially as champion. Maybe they saw him as being a liability, oh well 🤷🏾♂️
Maybe? He’s entirely disreputable and repugnant. Him getting injured was a relief for WWF.
@@BenJohnson0531 guess so, but it coulda changed him.... Maybe not 🤷🏾♂️
He will be a huge top heel, instead of Owen Hart
I remember reading a biopic in a Finnish newspaper in the early 2000's about him, where they mentioned his time in the WWF. He apparently had stated that he'd left because the hectic touring schedule, but of course that's complete bullcrap on his accord.
He didn't said in details
I swear to God last night I was looking up some of his matches and some interviews about him just last night and to see this deep dive into his life It looks like you guys were in my mind thinking about him.
Very interesting story and life of this man right here. And with all the stories about him he seems like a very miserable person to be around and all around bully.
He had his flaws but I don't think he was a bully. He was no stranger to violence but as a Finnish person I'm not aware of any incidents where he used his physical ability to intimidate an innocent person. He was quick to beat up challengers and criminals though. He pummeled a gang of thieves in Spain and once broke a rapist's arm after catching him in the act.
So his dad did him exactly like Nelson's from The Simpsons lol..."Papa?"

47 years of earth & he wasted all 47 years of it, with his heart....and tattoo
I remember this wrestler, a tough guy.
2003 Halme in Finnish parliament: "If you now praise these few legal initiatives of mine, which belong to the people of Finland, you will get rid of me with the fewest votes in four years. Otherwise, there could be tens of people like me here in four years, and you can't stand that."
Finns Party seats in elections:
1999 got 1 seats
2003 got 3 seats
2007 got 5 seats
2011 got 39 seats
2015 got 38 seats
2019 got 39 seats
2023 got 46 seats
Finnish leftist media is still bad about that.
Amazing work on this documentary. A truly disturbed individual, it's sad that so many today in America still look up him as a hero, not in spite of his problems, but because of them...

No amount of "bad childhood" excuses someone being a lifelong bigot and bully with an SS tattoo. Or a "rules for the but not for me" authoritarian who claims to be tough on crime for "those people" despite being a lifelong criminal himself. I'd say he shouldn't be missed, but unfortunately it seems like he's the kind of professional bully and voice of hate that gets support from a certain aspect of society, even in the comments on this video.

Tony's downfall began in 2003 when he had his completely unnecessary last boxing match for raising charity. He got badly beaten and started to selfmedicate his head injury with alcohol and painkillers.
This is one of those stories that makes me wonder if someone could have helped him. If his dad didn't leave, or if someone put him on the right path as a kid maybe he wouldn't have ended up such a shit head. Maybe. It is a sad story.
