There has been a countless number of tv crime shows with a beautiful female lead but even today Barbara bretton in my view is still the most gorgeous. What a stunner!
at 5:50 note Natalie Schafer, the splendid actress who did loads of TV and some movies but is only remembered now for Mrs. Thurston Howell on Gilligan's Island.
She was excellent in whatever role she played. One notable movie role of hers was a scheming patron of the arts with a penchant for younger men in the eerie film "Repeat Performance" in 1947.
I love her skirt and blouse in the bridge-playing scene. Even the shoes are cute. The whole outfit would look so pretty even today. Wouldn't even have to shorten the full skirt. :9)
Totally unfamiliar to me, I did my own type of sleuthing about Mr and Mrs North -- googling! Backtracking to their inception led me to Wikipedia articles about Mr and Mrs North and their creators Frances and Richard Lockridge. They began life as New Yorker cartoons.
I read, on IMDB, that Richard Denning was turned down by Warner Bros as he looked too much like an actor already on their books. Anyone have any ideas on who that actor was?
@@leilal8053 Exactly what my guess was going to be. And they being MEN, they couldn't tell that the resemblance though quaint and distinct was limited; that Robert Young was hardly a bit handsome, had almost no hair, and what he did have was of no particular color, whereas Richard Denning was as glorious from hair to toenails as Adonis.
Somehow I suspect Robert Young himself queered any deal Richard Denning might make with Warner Bros. Firmly entrenched actors like he was could do that. Glenn Ford used to queer all sorts of things for other, less famous actors. I'm just quoting things I heard said on TCM. I heard once that it was nearly impossible to get an actor to be Veronica Lake's leading man, that one famou8s guy was asked and replied, "No thank you. Life is too short." I wish googling would turn up the name of who that was and the story on WHY she was shunned like that. Loud and clear on TCM commentary, not a word to be found on the Web.
Impossibly impossible, but still fun to watch. Alan Mowbray (the murderer) played in a Sherlock Holmes film with Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce, "Terror by Night." He was a leftist, but a good actor.
And yet it seems to be holding up for most of us. How do you account for that? There used to be a mannerly way to say it. Just type IMO. IMHO is better, but I don't see that as forthcoming. Not just from you. It's gone almost completely out of style.
It's just getting better & better! What a marvelous show!
I have a crush on Mrs. North🍕
@@PizzaFLIX You are right, - she is fantastic!
This series has held up very well. Tight, compelling little stories and the Norths have a lot of charm.
Tis lovely to have a normal loving couple a centre stage. A great way to end the day
I'm 77, and use to watch this show as a kid..And I'm still watching them...God I love it!!

@@matthewkoch6937 I'll have to find that. She was the Hollywood madam in Day of the Locusts.
I like Alan Mowbray another great English actor
Quite a range of facial expressiveness.
@@TomDaly943 He actually had been a " featured player" in movies.
First time watching the show I have been looking for new shows to watch with been in lockdown with this virus going around.
OMG Mrs. Thurston Howell III. The actress was actually a millionaire in her own right.
Every time i see the actress who portrayed mrs howell? I think " you need me" lmaooooo
Thanks for posting. Great series!
love this show
Thanks for watching! May the Sauce be with you.
Nice visit to the TV shows of my childhood.

Carly Corday I love looking at details like this in old movies as well as decor, hairstyles, jewelry, etc.
I never saw this episode before. Thanks.
Originally telecast on January 2, 1953.

The novels are engrossing, the Lockridges knew how to write great whodunits, as I learned my freshman year in college.
Before the Hart's there was the North's.
Barbara Britton was a beautiful woman~ perfect facial structure!
what decade are these from?
A glass of cookies & milk. O K!!!
Funny how out of the 9 characters, only Mr. Sommers (the best selling author) isn't in the credits.

Gerry C ....he reminds me of the guy who played Father Knows Best / Marcus Welby, md
Robert Young....

Richard Denning also lost ground in the biz because of military service.

death on the rocks? or something close to it.
Sadly only Gracie Allen can play Gracie Allen.
Barbara isn't EVEN attempting any "Gracie". She's her own character here. And, BTW, one of the most beautiful women in TV-Land as well...
pam north is Sherlock Holmes an we know who watson is.hows murder funny. only here.
Doens't really hold up. A poor man's Thin Man. Or maybe a thin man's Thin Man.
... and Richard Denning a poor man's Michael Shayne?
@@jdrancho1864 He isn't a poor man's anything. Who is Michael Shayne? OK I googled him. He's an ugly Jerry North without a pretty wife.
