Interesting fact: Piper knocking the vase and smashing it at Prue’s funeral was not in the script and was completely by mistake as Holly got lost in the moment
The whole Prue leaving and Paige coming in is actually insane and so good. For me, it's the moment where Charmed became really great TV, which is ironic, being that the writers could have gone the replacement for Prue with another actress route, but they didn't, and it made the plot so interesting and deep. Plus, it's all handled amazingly well. Season 4 is my favorite of the show, there's so much going on, it's dark (and the grief for Prue and Paige setting into the family last for the whole season) and the stakes feel very high. I love Paige, she really brought the family back together
I hate how we didn't see any kind of real display of grief from Phoebe, like we did from Piper. No dialogue, no expression of how it feels to lose her eldest sister.
She hated Shannen and is one of the main reasons Prue was written off the show. Their fued almost killed the show entirely. I never liked Phoebe’s character again til the final seasons tbh
Because Alyssa can’t act very well. She could never pull off the emotions we see Holly and Shannen pull off. She’s also the whole reason Shannen got fired.
Yall remember Holly wanted to leave with her she under contact they bullied her to staying by her contract but she for sure protested she didn’t wanna come back after they killed off Prue
Alyssa was a good actress but when it really mattered cause of the jealously and rift she acted when she was suppose to but there was no realness behind she was just doing her job .. opposite from Holly she lost het friend her sister her better half . In real time !
piper losing her shit after prue's death hits a bit harder now that i fully realise that not only she has known her her entire life and she has to take prue's role in the fimaly dynamic(it's not like se said it explicitly the entire episode and it was her entire personal arc of the first few episodes dummy) but also : her sister died for the same reason her mom did (at a similar age) and that cause of death is looming over her and her other sister and both her grandmother and sister (the two people who were always there to take care of her, because her dad left and her sister wandered around) died within three years (maybe four) of each other
Holly Marie was very close to Shannen and so it was a mix of real emotion and acting. Probably the saddest episode in the herstory of Charmed. The story behind Prue dying was a HUGE curve ball for everyone in the show that happened very quickly and without much notice!
They'd just make Paige the older half sister Patty had before she met Victor I assume. Maybe she'd be like what the reboot did with the half sister a half-demon.
Great reaction!! I almost quit the show when Prue died (and Shannen left) but I hope you won't and that you'll continue to react to this wonderful show even when it hurts. ❤️ The show couldn't use anything with Shannen Doherty's likeness because then they had to pay her for it. * S P O I L E R * That's why we will never see her again.
Great reaction! I love that you like Paige from the beginning. Just like me. There are many people outside, who didn't liked her at first because she "replaced" Prue. Rose McGowan had to fill big footsteps and I personally think she did a great job. We always gonna miss Prue. I heard that Shannen Doherty didn't just had beef with Alyssa Milano. From what I heard she wanted the show to get a lot darker in the next seasons, but the production crew disagreed. Though it would have been interesting to see that too. I always tear up at the ending, when Paige finally meets Patty. Please keep it up. I'm so excited for the next episodes :)
@@ianbo1501 like I said. Just heard it. There are many rumors out there as to what has happened on the set and why she got fired. I love charmed. Yes the later seasons too. But I agree, that it would be very interesting to see a much darker version. Season 4 is the darkest of the whole show I think and it's very much loved by the fans, including me :)
I didn't start watching Charmed from the beginning. Paige was already the third sister when I started watching. So when I finally got the chance to watch the first three seasons, it took some getting used to, seeing Prue instead of Paige.
I can’t remember how it went down back then but I knew watching this episode that Shannon had left the show and Rose was coming in. Love Rose McGown so I was thrilled with her addition even if I was devastated to see Prue/Shannon go. I thought the writers handled it brilliantly. The anger. The grief. The disbelief but devotion to a new sister. I also like how during this episode you slowly learn the events of what happened after the S3 finale. That Cole betrayed The Source and bought Phoebe back reneging on the deal. How Leo wasn’t able to save Prue & The Doctor but Piper wasn’t dead so his powers could heal her. I hope you continue to enjoy Paige’s character. I did. Her and Prue have one common trait that made me really love them.
thank you for posting so fast these 3 eps. Tbh i am the biggiest Prue's fan and i was so sad to see her gone. I was hesitant about Paige at first but i grow to love her so much, she fit in perfectly with them.
This hurt my heart and I was around when they let us know without letting us know about Prue. They had hella radio and commercial hints without spilling all the tea
I feel so bad watching this because you could tell he misses Prue so much. Also the reason why the last season ended so open-ended was because the producers originally thought that Shannon was going to decide to stay even though they knew she was going to leave
Jay I’m literally about to have a fucking stroke both the finale and the season four premiere?!?!?!?!?! Thank youuuuuu so much oh my goodness why am I so happy lmao ❤ 💋
Yay what an unexpected treat. I was sure I'd have to wait a week or 2 for your season 4 opening reaction, being a non Patreon but no. I like how you mentioned how agonising the wait must have been back in the day and I was one of them. I watched Charmed when it originally aired and OMG the YEAR long wait was agonising. I thought they handled Prue's departure tremendously and introduced Paige so well. I look forward to the season 4 journey with you 👌
Despite any criticism I would come to have with Piper later on, the one thing you can't deny is the fact she is by far the best sister at engaging emotional range, she outright sells the entire premiere based off raw emotion alone. What I like about Piper here in the opening is that her grief and raw reaction very much captures similar emotion to the audience watching who may have experienced similar grief or reacted the same. I consider Season 1 and Season 4 to be the Seasons where Piper as a character shines the most and presents the best of her character in both the Prue and Paige era respectively. I like how she expresses anger, an emotion that's often associated with negativity can just be some people's way to express grief. And discounting my issue with Phoebe forcing Cole to go with her without regard of consequence, I do feel her more intact emotion feels real too, otherwise they wouldn't have Paige. This also gives Charmed more credit regarding a shift in casting and dynamic. A common thing a lot of shows go through or have went through was either killing off or giving exist to a previous main character, only for the devs to add in a replacement, Charmed I feel is the oddball in this case because it actually doesn't suffer from losing one character to adding one in said character's stead. Paige never feels like a Replacement Scrappy for Prue and the audience learns that along with her. While I do feel the show suffers in quality after Season 4, Paige was not the reason, In fact she was the main positive of the transition between seasons and going forward she will continue to be the highlight in many episodes I feel. She is my favorite of the 4 sisters and for the longest time I never understood why she was always considered the worst one. One writing qualm I have is the 48 hour clause, which feels stupid and makes the Elders even worse jerks than they already were.
there was huge drama behind the scenes the details of which has even gotten blurry to the people involved and basical one of the main actresses (either Holly Marie Combs or Shannon Doherty ) put an ultimatum that either Alyssa, either Shannon was to leave the show and either the crew or shannon herself decided to kill off prue (that's why shannon doherty directed the previous episode, it was kind of her dance of the swan, she "transformed" into a dog the episode before that to allow her enough time to work on the last episode) I guess it was still undecisive who would leave at the end of the episode so the end was somewhat open. Shannon didn't agree for her likeness to be used beyond this point so we won't see prue ever again in the tv show I watched the show as it aired but i was born around season 2 so by the time i remember watching (the french dub) paige's character was well established so prue's didn't speak to me until i rewatched the show later on unrelated but it just dawned on me that the title od "Charmed Ones" was never translated litteraly in french, they mentioned the power of three and the whole plot is the same but they are never called the "Charmed Ones" only "les soeurs Halliwell" (the Halliwells sisters) when they couldn't go around it. So the sentence "[they lost] their precious Charmed Ones when we buried our sister" got translated roughly into "they lost their precious little witch when we buried our sister" witch her refers to both Piper or Prue depending on how you read it
You should react to Jawbreaker they literally played that movie before the character change so we could remember how good Rose aka Paige was as a actress
: Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God.... The fact that I know Piper's bedroom dialogue by heart ^^" And you had the original soundtrack for the funeral scene, that's great. This song was so much more meaningful than what they remastered it with... Holy Mary Combs really delivers in those few episodes. Just wait for episode 3
Awesome reaction! Season 4 is my absolute favorite, I’m currently rewatching it. I’ll be watching those reaction videos of yours since I love this season. 😊
It was announced before the S3 finale that Shannen wasn't returning so we all knew something was going to happen to Prue. I and many others were hoping she would change her mind but It wasn't long after that Rose was announced to be joining the cast and we had to accept it.
I was quite the Charmed fan back then, and I'm fairly certain that isn't true. We didn't know she won't return. It was actually mid-summer when Shannen decided not to return. There was early drafts of a season 4 premiere where Shannen was still on the show.
I am so thrilled that you posted so much…. Don’t know if anyone told you but real world animosity between Shannon and Alyssa (don’t know the spelling) is what caused Shannon to be killed off the show…. But baring that Rose definitely held her own … and please do be quick with the next episode, it’s hands down my favorite episode from the first 3.5 seasons …. And in my top three episodes of all of charmed …… Holly is my favorite actress out of all the shows I have ever watched… hell I have the symbol from the book of shadows tattooed on my body and also my cat is named Piper!
As much as I loved Prue, Paige's arrival was really well mastered! I really love this episode. Holly Marie Comb is an amazing actress and her acting in this episode is beyond spectacular. Paige is a wonderful character and she clearly deserves to be a Charmed One. I genuinely think that Daryl is a massive underated character : he almost as he said " sacrificed his family, job" to help the Halliwells. I loveeee him P.S: your reactions are wonderful. I love how enjoyed you are towards this serizs which is massively underated. Just imagine how frustrated were we when we had to wait for season 4
From what I remember when Season 3 ended, someone reported that Shannen Doherty had to leave the show due to legal reasons after a DUI which would stop her from being able to film(like jail or rehab or something). I’ve never heard of this story since and only years later heard of the issues on set, so I guess that wasn’t the real reason. But I definitely remember that there was a poll on the station’s website for what the new sister would be (so, yeah her existence wasn’t a surprise when Season 4 started). But I think there was a poll on what “P” name she would have, what her powers would be, etc.
I also like that Paige received a different power than Prue They really did a great job with replacing Prue with Paige and doing it in a respectful manner
I think prue might of knew about paige because of her age she about 8 when patty was kill so she was 6 when paige born so ether grams reset that membory or she just forgot over the years
The biggest thing that will forever piss me off (almost two decades later…) is that they never showed Prue’s actual death. They didn’t show Leo not being able to heal her. Their reactions to her death. They didn’t finish the aftermath of All Hell’s Break Loose. They just jumped onto this. I love this episode regardless, and love Paige. Like Phoebe barely mourned Prue. I get people mourn in different ways, but sis barely noticed she was gone and was so hurry to Welcome Paige in and continue their destiny. But such an awful way for Prue to go out. And yeah rip the intro….copyrights lol
The down low that I got was originally Charmed was 3 seasons. No one expected the show to blow up like it did. So everyone had a 3 years contract. When they got word that the show was green lite for 4th season everyone came back and signed another contract; everyone expect Shannon Doherty. So the writers had to scramble with Paige. It is why you don't see any photos of Prue in the House after this point. And why the summoning spell fails.
Thank you! I cannot believe the great show you are offering! I've watched Charmed many times, so I kinda know it by heart. Watching your reaction feels like "Whoa! That was my reaction back then!" What a journey back in time! Thank you!❤️
Glad the Power of Three lives on. But still upset Prue is no longer alive. Also, I love how season 4 was the struck of Piper's evolving as the strongest sister witch
I thought I read years ago that Shannen Doherty had said that she doesn't like to stay on a show for too long so that she doesn't get bored with the role. Not sure how true that it is. She did the same thing with Beverly Hills, 90210. She left that show after 4 seasons!
Thank you for the Charmed uploads today. Season four is officially here. No spoilers. But there was a lot of speculation on why Prue was written off. It was said that. Shannon and Alyssa didn't get along. For a while on Charmed. I can't confirm but heard. That Alyssa said either she goes or I go. So either Shannon was fired or agreed to leave. When season 4 came. And Rose came on the show. To play the fourth sister Paige. Alot of fans thought they missed an episode. The Charmed fans were very confused.
Great reaction Jay! Personally I prefer Paige over Prue. Rose brought so much uniqueness to her character that made her my fav after Piper. Can’t wait to see more soon!
Jay; ( in a nutshell) the reason the jump doesn’t make sense is Alyssa’s fault . Prue was supposed to be in Season 4. Shannen remarked how excited she was for it the summer in between s3 and s4 to Australian fans . But Alyssa threatened to quit again , and producers decided to fire Shannen over the phone . This is why the writers had Prue die offscreen, and there was no more footage shown . There is a rumor 3x22 was longer, but after the firing it was hastily re-edited. I hope that clears things up .
I think I kinda have it figured out(?) If Phoebe had waited just a little longer Prue would’ve died in that original timeline. Then both Piper and Prue would be gone and in The Source’s words “bring one of your sisters back to life.” One of the sisters would’ve died regardless. He didn’t lie but omitted certain information.
so, I started to watch from the season 4 and later I was able to see from the begginig (it wasn't that easy to watch old episodes, specially here in Brazil). So, this wasn't shocking for me.
This is why listing favorite seasons gets weird. S1-3 Phoebe is probably my favorite but I think from season 4 on its a clean trade off between Paige and Phoebe. Though my favorite character isn't a sister. Also I love that the MOTHER was the one abusing the boy in this episode.
I love Paige but without Prue it was not the same. Shannen Doherty had her own demons but she is such a good actress. The empath episode is still my favorite, her play was fantastic !! Too bad she decided to leave the show because of the feud between Alyssa and her :( but i like Rose Mcgowan. She was able to bring a new spirit into the show. Not easy but she did it.

Season 4 is my favorite of the show, there's so much going on, it's dark (and the grief for Prue and Paige setting into the family last for the whole season) and the stakes feel very high. I love Paige, she really brought the family back together
If you think season 4-8 are better than the Prue seasons, your crazy
@SWolfe season 1 to 4 are the best
I like seaso 7 as well
YAAAASSSS MY FAVORITE SISTER NOW HERE!!!!!!!!!! LOVE IT!
I hate how we didn't see any kind of real display of grief from Phoebe, like we did from Piper. No dialogue, no expression of how it feels to lose her eldest sister.
She did grieve Prue. Everyone grieves differently
In the comics, I think it was mentioned that it was Prue who led Piper and Phoebe to Paige; and Paige to them
I'm so mad that they never put Prue and Paige together on screen. It would've been nice to see they both together
piper losing her shit after prue's death hits a bit harder now that i fully realise that not only she has known her her entire life and she has to take prue's role in the fimaly dynamic(it's not like se said it explicitly the entire episode and it was her entire personal arc of the first few episodes dummy) but also : her sister died for the same reason her mom did (at a similar age) and that cause of death is looming over her and her other sister and both her grandmother and sister (the two people who were always there to take care of her, because her dad left and her sister wandered around) died within three years (maybe four) of each other
The way he looked at the screen when Paige offered to heal was just 😂
He was rooting for Paige so hard, I just made me feel warm inside
Holly Marie was very close to Shannen and so it was a mix of real emotion and acting. Probably the saddest episode in the herstory of Charmed. The story behind Prue dying was a HUGE curve ball for everyone in the show that happened very quickly and without much notice!
I've always wondered what the writers would've done to continue the show if the Sam/Patty relationship hadn't already been established in season 2.
They'd just make Paige the older half sister Patty had before she met Victor I assume. Maybe she'd be like what the reboot did with the half sister a half-demon.
Yeeeeees!!!!! Great reaction!!! Charmed a tv show whit real and pure magic!!! And 25 years ago here we are!!!!!!! Thank Jay!!!!
Great reaction!! I almost quit the show when Prue died (and Shannen left) but I hope you won't and that you'll continue to react to this wonderful show even when it hurts. ❤️
The show couldn't use anything with Shannen Doherty's likeness because then they had to pay her for it.

That's why we will never see her again.
If Shannen really wanted this, she was right!
Omg... The moment Is here! Send you lots of hugs.
4:15 I feel the missing wall starting to be put back together in the background is a nice detail. Not to mention how hard it would be to walk by it.
thank you for posting so fast these 3 eps.
The scene where Piper says “Prue??” Gets me every time 😢💔
I love how Cole was laying bleeding in plain sight from day to night and no one saw or helped him.
Hey thanks for doing this series, it brings back some nostalgia that means alot to me. Thank you!
I look forward to the season 4 journey with you 👌
Next Episode is one of my all time Favorites
I really hope you continue the show it's definitely not the same without Prue but it's very good and Paige is a really great addition ❤️
At least now, moving forward they do not need to drive a car to chase demons, they can orb now with Paige's gift/power along with Leo.
Blessed Be 🌒🌕🌘
Despite any criticism I would come to have with Piper later on, the one thing you can't deny is the fact she is by far the best sister at engaging emotional range, she outright sells the entire premiere based off raw emotion alone.
Shannon didn't agree for her likeness to be used beyond this point so we won't see prue ever again in the tv show
I watched the show as it aired but i was born around season 2 so by the time i remember watching (the french dub) paige's character was well established so prue's didn't speak to me until i rewatched the show later on
unrelated but it just dawned on me that the title od "Charmed Ones" was never translated litteraly in french, they mentioned the power of three and the whole plot is the same but they are never called the "Charmed Ones" only "les soeurs Halliwell" (the Halliwells sisters) when they couldn't go around it. So the sentence "[they lost] their precious Charmed Ones when we buried our sister" got translated roughly into "they lost their precious little witch when we buried our sister" witch her refers to both Piper or Prue depending on how you read it
Paige and Pru were my favorites!
You should react to Jawbreaker they literally played that movie before the character change so we could remember how good Rose aka Paige was as a actress
Finally peige is here love you ❤
: Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God....
The fact that I know Piper's bedroom dialogue by heart ^^"
And you had the original soundtrack for the funeral scene, that's great.
Its really cool to go back and watch some season 3 episodes when their in the club and just imagining Paige is there in the background somewhere.
We were never told when it originally aired and no one knew she was leaving til she left it was very sudden and unplanned
I loveeee him
P.S: your reactions are wonderful. I love how enjoyed you are towards this serizs which is massively underated. Just imagine how frustrated were we when we had to wait for season 4
Can you believe they didn’t even want holly at first?!
I know right! She's a phenomenal actress.
Yet that completely shifted the tone of the show and caused the viewership to dwindle...
Your reaction is always good makes my day as always can't wait until the next one
Prudence Penelope Patricia Melinda, Astrid Helena Laura and Grace
Halliwell witches stands strong beside us and vanquish this evil from time and space
Welcome to a whole new yet finale journey of the new Charmed Ones!
Thank you for such a great reaction! Please tell me, after the episode with the Angel of Death, did you suspect that Prue would die?
From what I remember when Season 3 ended, someone reported that Shannen Doherty had to leave the show due to legal reasons after a DUI which would stop her from being able to film(like jail or rehab or something). I’ve never heard of this story since and only years later heard of the issues on set, so I guess that wasn’t the real reason. But I definitely remember that there was a poll on the station’s website for what the new sister would be (so, yeah her existence wasn’t a surprise when Season 4 started). But I think there was a poll on what “P” name she would have, what her powers would be, etc.
I also like that Paige received a different power than Prue
They really did a great job with replacing Prue with Paige and doing it in a respectful manner
And why the summoning spell fails.
this is utter misinformation
Yeeeeeees!!!!! Welcome season 4!!!!!!
This is my fav show of all time. Seeing you enjoy it this much makes my heart happy. 💙
Thank you!
I cannot believe the great show you are offering!
I've watched Charmed many times, so I kinda know it by heart. Watching your reaction feels like "Whoa! That was my reaction back then!"
What a journey back in time!
Thank you!❤️
Glad the Power of Three lives on. But still upset Prue is no longer alive. Also, I love how season 4 was the struck of Piper's evolving as the strongest sister witch
Epic reaction!! We know you’re were going to have the feels with Pru.
I thought I read years ago that Shannen Doherty had said that she doesn't like to stay on a show for too long so that she doesn't get bored with the role. Not sure how true that it is. She did the same thing with Beverly Hills, 90210. She left that show after 4 seasons!
Loved your reaction 😊 can’t wait for you to get to seasons 5 and 6. They are my favorite
Prue is my all time favorite sister charmed one
Jay; ( in a nutshell) the reason the jump doesn’t make sense is Alyssa’s fault . Prue was supposed to be in Season 4. Shannen remarked how excited she was for it the summer in between s3 and s4 to Australian fans . But Alyssa threatened to quit again , and producers decided to fire Shannen over the phone . This is why the writers had Prue die offscreen, and there was no more footage shown . There is a rumor 3x22 was longer, but after the firing it was hastily re-edited. I hope that clears things up .
This hits hard knowing what happened 💔
RIP Shannen😭
"BOOM CHARMED!"
20:10!
Yessssssss!!!!!
Also Alyssa and Shannon squashed their beef a long time ago
Oh man, If I’d have a chance to back foward and Watch as a first time Charmed, i would love so much. Thank you for the memories… greetings from México
I've noticed you've watched quite a few of once upon a time. Did you realise page was on there too? She cames in in season 2 playing young cora.
Best reaction to this episode coming off if all hell broke loose. I'm so happy no body spoiled it for you
Paige is one of my favorite additions to the show , they did such a good job at introducing her character. I love your reaction !
I think I kinda have it figured out(?)
If Phoebe had waited just a little longer Prue would’ve died in that original timeline.
I am glad you are already on season four episode 4x17 will be an amazing one
4x13, 4x20 and 4x21. 🤫😉
This is why listing favorite seasons gets weird. S1-3 Phoebe is probably my favorite but I think from season 4 on its a clean trade off between Paige and Phoebe. Though my favorite character isn't a sister.
Also I love that the MOTHER was the one abusing the boy in this episode.
something no one talks about is if paige selpt with shane as the source, thats messed up and be considered sexual assault
This was my same reaction when I first watched this back in 2001.
