@@alceratops6853 You mean only when they aren’t doing their job description, right? Because giving employers completely free rein to decide whether people who already qualified can afford to live isn’t always the best idea for a society.
Benson is actually a GREAT boss. He only looses his cool when the guys are slacking off which is honestly perfectly called for. A bad boss is what Mr. Krabs or Mr. Burns would be. Benson is honestly what a good boss should be like.
How I view this show. Pops - the weird grandpa Benson - a harsh father but kind inside Skips - big brother figure High 5 and muscle man - the naughty children but never get caught Mordercai and rigby - the naughty children who always got caught
I would say Muscle Man and Fives are more of the big brother figures. Skips is kinda like that super cool uncle that’s better than everyone and helps out with everything.
One of my favorite Benson moments. But he still can be a jerk at times. Mordecai even says it to his face and it's almost like Benson took it to heart and accepted it.
I get that. Benson just wants Mordecai and Rigby to understand that they shouldn't keep doing crazy stuff. If that's the case, why does he think constantly yelling at them and threatening to fire them will help? If anything, that would just make it worse, in my opinion. If Benson really cared about making sure they become better employees, then he should be more supportive and understanding instead of yelling 24/7. Overall, I think Benson's a good character, but a horrible boss.
@@matthewallen445dude if your employees kept doing stupid shit after being told to do the simplest stuff over and over again I'm pretty sure you would get annoyed
3:39 this is one of my favorite overall episodes, it helps show that neither side truly loathes eachother and actually are decent friends, they just bicker a ton. The episode where they help Benson finish his guitar solo is also a really good episode.
2:16 SO FUCKING TRUE. Dude was literally simping over Margaret for so long now for no reason other than She good looking and she work at the place he gets coffee from, so being sad over her when he never even told Margaret how she feel is so unreasonable. Tbh, Modercai being sad over her is so unreasonable and it better for Benson to say this to him since he been through this stuff before as shown later in the series and before this episode.
Man, Benson been through a LOT of stuff. I'd go as far as saying that he's the second wisest and second most experienced in life at the park (second only to skips of course)
Honestly, when it comes to saving the park, Mordecai and Rigby excel in it. Their skills don't lie with being groundskeepers, they lie with protecting the park. And before you say that they have to protect the park from shit they cause, not all of the insane occurrences are caused by them.
Was about to counter with most of the stuff that happens is their fault but yeah not everything is. They didnt hire the russian spy, or build a literal highway to hell
They'd make better security guards than groundskeepers. I think Benson should've realized that groundskeeping really wasn't their thing a long time ago.
Yeah I would say only about half of the events are their fault, the other half is a mix of people trying to take over the park and random magical/supernatural events that just happened to take place there, but like 85% of the time it's mordecai and Rigby saving the day, so they have a pretty good record
there's literally a meme about it. "oh, you threw away a can? whoops, that can was actually a transdimensional warlord that is now going to destroy the universe if you don't stop it" and yet mordecai and rigby do end up stopping it
I think Benson is great boss despite his anger issues. Maybe if Mordecai and Rigby wasn't so lazy all the time. Benson wouldn't have gets so angry with them. He seems like an ok dude if you don't make him angry. Also the reason why Benson has angry issues I wish they went more into it. Cuz Benson only yells and show anger because his family encouraged him to speak up more and rise his voice and honestly I felt that. Because I would rather have someone tell me to shut up then tell to rise my voice because I hate not bring able to speak loud or express myself.
It's the stress of being a team lead/middle management. You'll always be crapped on by the owner or corporate just wanting results, it's nice they showed the nice side of Benson here and there showing it's nothing personal just really the nature of his job.
4:32 I fucking hate how that episode ends. It’s it’s a really big fuck you especially after he explains how he feels about their relationship feels kind of like they don’t care about Benson
@LapisIsNotHere it's not about experience, it's also about property damage and OSHA violation. I'm pretty sure Benson isn't the only one get pissed at this :)))
J.G. Quintel is a genius at writing these characters. Most of the time in a cartoon, a boss is supposed to be either lazy and dishonest while pinning the work on their subordinates, or a completely unreasonable jackass who makes their subordinate's lives a living hell. Benson is neither of those; he's incredibly hardworking and honest, he busts his employees' balls making sure they do their job but he's not unreasonable (he was completely fine with Muscle Man taking a lunch break during an errand simply because Muscle Man checked in and asked), and the only times you really see him angry are with Mordecai and Rigby, who are inherently more flawed as characters than he is. He's all about integrity. And at the same time, he's an incredibly chill dude and he's so naturally fucking talented at a bunch of shit that he could be (and was) a big shot, but decides to be the manager of the park because that's where he naturally belongs. I can't begin to describe how insanely unique the characters of Regular Show are, even if it's just a children's comedy cartoon. It's almost like these characters invented their own brand-new archetypes. Edit: You guys in the replies are really missing the semantics of my comment...
I love how the story of Regular Show is told from the perspectives of 2 childhood best friends who are young adults who still have a lot of maturing to do and are unsure of where they wanna go in life, with the help of a mentor/good influence (Benson), more forgiving and sweet leader (Pops), chill co worker who’s always there for them (Skips), and the other 2 best friends who are a bit much at first but u grow to love them (Muscle man/Mitch and Hi-five ghost)
It might only be my opinion, but i think benson is one of the coolest guys i've seen in animation, like seriously, a retired mini hockey champion, a retired legendary drums player, a really good fighter, he resisted his skeleton burning, and usually acts pretty nice with his employees, he was my favourite character in regular show
Benson isn't a bad guy, he's the boss & its his job to be in charge of everyone to make sure things run smoothly. Plus Mordecai & Rigby are _total_ slackers who would go through 10x the effort to not do their simple tasks. If they were even a smidge more responsible Benson wouldn't get mad. Especially how it puts it in 3:43
I use to think Benson was just an angry lil bitch but as I grew older, i realised that Benson was an understandable character. I would be pissed too if my employees didnt do their work and kept slacking off
I remember when my mom used to watch with me, she always used to say he's just like her and I can confirm this and his personality is like gold hidden in a pile of stress.
Benson‘s one of those characters that when you were younger, you thought he was rude until you got older, you began to respect him. He’s not a bad guy. He’s just stressed out from the stuff Mordecai and Rigby do. Most the time they slack off or destroy the park even when Benson asks them to do simple things. Benson is a good guy and tries to teach them responsibility and discipline something they had very little of until then end of the series
3:10 Benson's look went full 180 degrees after Rigby asked that question. He noticed Rigby was asking genuinely and was Just kinda sad thats the impression they have over him. It was like He was saying "I actually love you guys, its just I have been through so many shit in my life that its hard to be both a father to two manchildren, a boss and a calm person at the same time." Reminder that Benson actually said out loud He loves Reccoontard and Mordesimp when he thought they were all going to die.
every moment this guy is on screen, and actually getting along with the others is a gift. and some of the moments where he's not getting along with them.
0:59 All my childhood i thought Benson said what he said because he thought Mordecai and Rigby would be killed or something, obly now i realise that the intention of the scene was to show Benson pressured to tell the truth... Wich is that he still finds Mordecai and Rigby cool, even after ALL THE HAVOC THAT BROKE LOOSE BECAUSE OF THEM! This guy is a true friend...
i love benson as a character so much. he's more than just the typical angry mean boss with no redeeming qualities. he always has good reasons to be upset and often just wants the boys to work. he himself knows that never doing any work doesn't get you anywhere in life.
I only realized later after rewatching the show that benson was actually a good boss a great boss infact,if Mordecai and Rigby just listened to him and did their chores he'd always be cool with them like that episode "book of park records" he was cool with them and actually said he appreciated them
Unironically Benson at least to me is the most likeable character in Regular Show. He may seem like a dick from the perspective of Mordecai and Rigby but he is just trying to do his best maintaining the park and when they actually do well he rewards them. I know if I was the boss of the park I would’ve fired Mordecai and Rigby WAYYYYY before. But it’s clear he genuinely cares about all his staff despite his snarky attitude.
Benson was a really cool character with a messed up past, having a very strict father, having friends die, his drumming abilities credibility judged by a machine, and incompetent coworkers who at the end of the day were his true best friends.
He was always nice. He’s been through a lot. Unlucky love and stress doesn’t do good to a guy like him, especially to us. He’s also a relatable character and I respect that.
The electro pop scene is one of my favorites in the entire show, one of the earliest moments where you can really see that Benson is looking after them by being hard on them, but still wants to be friends with them
As a 13 year old watching this show for the first time I have to say beson is my favorite character without a doubt. He’s definitely the most well written. I genuinely feel happy for him on the rare times where he’s genuinely happy.
I loved Benson. Dude was a good guy with good intentions that was just stressed from life and had some anger issues. He was never the bad guy, even when he was acting like a jerk
You forgot the scene from “the worlds best boss” where benson was being nice to everyone in the beginning even though he was having a tough day. After all he’s been through, he really deserves the mug from that episode.
Benson *IS* nice. He keeps order and respects his employees (What a Boss should do, not a Friend)... The problem is that McNuggets and Oompa Loompa (Mordecai and Rigby) always do stupid things even if they do the simplest jobs.
Bensons advice ended up helping me with some of my own issues I had in life. Growing up with a cartoon that actually was both funny and educational on the problems of adult life was the pinnacle of my childhood and the cartoons on air today just aren’t the same
Benson is more then a boss he's a father figure to Mordecai and Rigby, That's why he's so tough on them to show them responsibility and discipline to live the very best of there lives.
I love how much Benson being a pro drummer shines through with his reaction to them making music like “oh for fuck’s sake, let me show you how it’s done”
Oh my God, and how could I forget future Benson from the movie. "I don't need you to tell me what you did. If we get out of this, can you fix it?" How cool and understanding of Benson
I just realized the Gumballs inside bensons head kinda shape a beard for his face and now I can’t unsee it.
I mean, kinda. I imagine if they design Benson like shaved beard person. But than again, some episodes showed his actual beard sometimes.
Pretty sure I saw somewhere that the character designers made it that way to represent 5 o'clock Shadow so he looks kind of ragged and overworked.

Tbh, I still love those 3.
I was an adult when Regular Show came out.
I always understood him. I'm 34 now.
This is just SpongeBob, Patrick and squidward all over again.
The fact that despite Mordecai and Rigby’s actions, Benson did not fire them for what are some really awful things, to me, makes benson a amazing boss
Technically There are 2 times when they were about to get fired but managed to get out of it
In that episode with replacements they would of been fired if mordecai and Rigby didn't make the replacements time a living hell
In the movie they would of gotten fired if Rigby didn't lie to Benson about buying him burritos then basically using it as a bribe (Benson was literally filling out the slips)
That doesn't make him a good boss. Sometimes, the best way to show that you care is by letting one's employee go in order to teach them about life
@@alceratops6853 You mean only when they aren’t doing their job description, right? Because giving employers completely free rein to decide whether people who already qualified can afford to live isn’t always the best idea for a society.
@@wildfire9280 Yeah, that's what I meant. Benson should've fired the boys for their recklessness, though we wouldn't have a Regular Show
The fact that you said the fact that shows the fact that you didn’t really need to say the fact that
Benson is actually a GREAT boss. He only looses his cool when the guys are slacking off which is honestly perfectly called for. A bad boss is what Mr. Krabs or Mr. Burns would be. Benson is honestly what a good boss should be like.
Mr burns?
@@gabrielsouto6031 simpsons character

Mr Krabs is a bad boss, but he’s still an awesome character. I think a perfect example of a terrible boss would be Nestor.
I guess that would be on a high praise when you put it in that way.
Benson is literally the dream boss anyone could ask for
Sam Marin is really good at making Benson sound like a genuine dude, especially in that first clip when he gives Mordecai and Rigby the raise
How I view this show.
Pops - the weird grandpa
Benson - a harsh father but kind inside
Skips - big brother figure
High 5 and muscle man - the naughty children but never get caught
Mordercai and rigby - the naughty children who always got caught
That's exactly right lol
I would say Muscle Man and Fives are more of the big brother figures. Skips is kinda like that super cool uncle that’s better than everyone and helps out with everything.
@@ohnobro1424 bro that’s literally my uncle

This is what made me like Benson, he's not a bad guy, he's trying to push Mordecai and Rigby from slacking off because he's their boss
And this is their job to listening his boss.
Yeah
Lowkey one of my favorite moments of the season

The way his face changes upon hearing what Rigby asked hit hard.
The way you aren't wrong
Man, Benson been through a LOT of stuff. I'd go as far as saying that he's the second wisest and second most experienced in life at the park (second only to skips of course)
@@jasperthompson9759 facts
@@jasperthompson9759 Relationship wise it's Benson, but everything else ranging to life lessons and advice it's Skips.
"you don't have the right to be sad."
Mordecai’s hook is out of this world lmao
Yeah I would say only about half of the events are their fault, the other half is a mix of people trying to take over the park and random magical/supernatural events that just happened to take place there, but like 85% of the time it's mordecai and Rigby saving the day, so they have a pretty good record
there's literally a meme about it. "oh, you threw away a can? whoops, that can was actually a transdimensional warlord that is now going to destroy the universe if you don't stop it"
and yet mordecai and rigby do end up stopping it
I think Benson is great boss despite his anger issues.
You'll always be crapped on by the owner or corporate just wanting results, it's nice they showed the nice side of Benson here and there showing it's nothing personal just really the nature of his job.
that's relatable honestly
i don't really like HAVING to raise up my voice(tho doing funny screams for myself is kinda funny)
I love benson but it seems you all forgot when high fives ghost took over and everyone was like 100x more productive
His family backstory is the reason for his anger issues. He grew up in a verbally abusive household and thought it was the norm.
3:39 this is one the most wholesome moments ever, it feels so genuine
4:32 I fucking hate how that episode ends. It’s it’s a really big fuck you especially after he explains how he feels about their relationship feels kind of like they don’t care about Benson
My exact thoughts
I've always seen Benson as an overall nice guy. He just has anger issues.
Tbf your employees summoning satan himself instead of cutting grass is pretty infuriating
if we’re being real i’d say his reactions to the things mordecai and rigby do are more than justified 💀
@LapisIsNotHere it's not about experience, it's also about property damage and OSHA violation. I'm pretty sure Benson isn't the only one get pissed at this :)))
Mortecai liked to push people around sometimes pops in wrasslin episode I liked
How a guy could maintain his cool while his employees keep blowing the park on daily basis.
Edit: You guys in the replies are really missing the semantics of my comment...
this is not a children's cartoon, it's geared towards teenagers and young adults
It's also important to note that sometimes, Benson is an unreasonable dick. But thati's important too.

2:18 those words- they’ve stuck with me over all my years. It will always be a reminder to go for it, even if you’re unsure
I agree. Even if you fail, at least you fail knowing you tried. It's the effort that counts
2:47 “Don’t say it like that.”
3:10 Benson's look went full 180 degrees after Rigby asked that question. He noticed Rigby was asking genuinely and was Just kinda sad thats the impression they have over him. It was like He was saying "I actually love you guys, its just I have been through so many shit in my life that its hard to be both a father to two manchildren, a boss and a calm person at the same time."

i love benson as a character so much. he's more than just the typical angry mean boss with no redeeming qualities. he always has good reasons to be upset and often just wants the boys to work. he himself knows that never doing any work doesn't get you anywhere in life.
I never realized how much of a GOAT Benson is until now.
3:46 that’s a really great way to explain a lot of angry moments with people you care about-
He was always nice. He’s been through a lot. Unlucky love and stress doesn’t do good to a guy like him, especially to us. He’s also a relatable character and I respect that.
6:29 it was nice of Benson to try to talk to Mordecai, he also knows the feeling of when someone you love rejects you
5:36 Haha, Benson got angry because he caught himself partying.
Benson is just a traumatized man trying to get work done and live life, honestly hes a good guy.
I was feeling a little emotional but the "rest in balls" part had me rolling
The electro pop scene is one of my favorites in the entire show, one of the earliest moments where you can really see that Benson is looking after them by being hard on them, but still wants to be friends with them
Epic scene that 1
Heartwarming moment hilarious too 😂
I'll be honest as a kid I was intimidated by Benson because of his temper. He's like a ticking time bomb, you don't know when he is going to snap.
As a 13 year old watching this show for the first time I have to say beson is my favorite character without a doubt. He’s definitely the most well written. I genuinely feel happy for him on the rare times where he’s genuinely happy.

Benson *IS* nice.
He keeps order and respects his employees (What a Boss should do, not a Friend)... The problem is that McNuggets and Oompa Loompa (Mordecai and Rigby) always do stupid things even if they do the simplest jobs.
