I went through a flood when I lived in WV & worked trying to save people brought into the hospital.(I spent 39 years in nursing & am disabled now). The memories, sights of the hurt/dead, & the sound of the rushing waters still haunt me all these years later. I was blessed cause the hospital was behind flood walls which held, but the water was 2 feet from the top. My husband and I are seniors we were in a medical shelter for 5 days during Hurricane Milton. I am my husbands care giver. He has medical issues all due to the foods he eats. We both eat differently. I am a gardener who likes to eat fresh foods and he is a processed food eater. We live in two different worlds when it comes to food. What I experienced during our stay at the shelter was how reliant people are when it comes to who, where and how people get their food. I came prepared with my own whole foods that I brought from my home. The shelter served lunch room meals 3x a day. Until you are actually in an emergency situation you won't realize how well you have prepared. I had everything I needed to go camping in the shelter with or without power for 5 days. We never lost power so I never had to use my backup battery to keep my cooler charged. I had fresh salad and fresh fruit to eat and chicken jerkey. 😊
Okay anyone saying even 250 deaths is nothing is so not in touch with their humanity. That is A LOT of people to lose anywhere, but especially in rural areas/small town areas. I have always lived in small towns and if we lost 250 people that would be absolutely devastating. I am in the maritimes (East coast) of Canada and watch homesteaders in your area or from nearby all the time, so my heart is with all of you. Praying for everyone and I am so in awe of how you have all pulled together to literally dig yourselves out of this. ❤🙏🏼 An example to the world of what it is to love your neighbours.

Yes, i want to hear more about sheds going to people to get them off the ground and out of tents. A shed or few might not solve the regional problem but i can only imagine that those hanging out in a shed rather than a tent will be healthier and happier this winter; and let us not forget the spring rains.

Some of our military personnel strongly urge people across the country to be prepared. They also urge people in cities to begin working together and putting systems in place for food and water prior to an emergency. Glad you are speaking on the importance of food. How anyone is able to belittle this catastrophe is beyond me. Same thing happened three years ago over here in Germany. Massive amounts of rain over days led to flash floods in river valleys. Small rivers that are knee deep most of the time swellled to raging rivers of more than 26 feet (nobody knows how high really because the measuring devices got destroyed as well). Many lives were lost, many more changed forever due to the trauma. The regions are still recovering. It's heartbreaking wherever it happens 😢
For people that can’t afford to buy a large scale system, look into smaller units. I have several Aerogardens, and off brand systems like those. I’ve gotten some of them second hand on Facebook marketplace, and the off brands on Amazon. Last Christmas my son gifted me a Gardyn system. I had greens, tiny tomatoes, herbs, peppers all winter. I’ve also grown in soil with grow lights for larger plants, like full size tomatoes. Every little bit is less you have to buy, and you are gaining skills. Not to mention how it lifts your spirits to see beautiful food growing in the middle of winter.

Love your channel, the country is in bad shape lately, it's very sad. Many people have been outed by those in charge and families are in need of help. My heart goes out to them. This is a sign though of what is to likely come in other areas. I think it's not to late for people to learn self sufficiency and disaster preparedness....... Not doomsday prepping the foods that are poisoning us. I pray people come back to the land and abandon the systems in place because we all can see what those systems do to us....... We have been putting up veggies and as always picking mushrooms twice a week. This week mainly lions mane and chestnut mushrooms. Gonna try to build another small outbuilding after I finish healing.

I didn't know that more than greens could be grown on the towers! That's awesome, I currently feed my towers with compost tea or fermented wood chip broth instead of factory nutrients. IDK if it matters either way but thank you for showing all the beans and squash growing in the towers. I have a new project to start now😊

You are an inspiration. I am going to look into the mushrooms. I live in a town home and turned my tiny patio into a garden. I feel like a weirdo, but I really enjoy growing my own food. It’s not much but it’s a learning step. Hopefully one day I can get more land. I have been able to use some land at my in laws to grow food too. If there is a will there is a way.

She and my 19 year old son (and my husband and I) have been trying to garden a bit. We have not been very successful, except with tomatoes (which I can’t eat without massive inflammation - 😂). Just started watching you, I think a video yours popped up in my feed around the start of Helene.....I really like your video style and your sustainable lifestyle. I went through a few big floods here in Australia, and like you, was well-prepared, although we didn't know they were going to be devastating floods that cut everybody off and left a lot of us with no power and water. All my gardens were washed away, but I had plenty of food and was able to cook on a camp stove.....rice and beans, rice and lentils supplemented with what vegetables I had in the freezer. Once the water went down enough for me to wade out I could offer food to others. Anyway, I only came to say hello really, and ask if you grow varieties of beans that you dry and use in soups etc and if you do, would you talk about it please. Take care, it's easy to get disaster burn-out.
I'm glad you found me! I do grow beans and dry them. It's past the season right now but I will have more videos out on the topic next spring. Basically though I just grow whatever beans we like and let them dry on the plant fully if possible and then shell them and toss them in a glass jar.
Also I have two huge picture windows which will run you out of my side of the apartment building and I have grown lettuce in the container on the window seal but open for any new ideal …Forward to your next video prayers for all of you …

I heard from my friends in Burnsville! They made it back to the house and got the cars out after being helicoptered out. House was spared simply because the 30”of rain caused land slide was stopped because the road above caught it and stopped it. Neighbors, not so good. I am learning from you. With your towers, where do you get the liquid you add? Do you make it?
I'm glad they are safe!! I use Tower Garden nutrients. You can use any hydroponic nutrient mix but Tower garden works so well, is clean and I find it easy to store a year supply.

How anyone is able to belittle this catastrophe is beyond me. Same thing happened three years ago over here in Germany. Massive amounts of rain over days led to flash floods in river valleys. Small rivers that are knee deep most of the time swellled to raging rivers of more than 26 feet (nobody knows how high really because the measuring devices got destroyed as well). Many lives were lost, many more changed forever due to the trauma. The regions are still recovering. It's heartbreaking wherever it happens 😢

For people that can’t afford to buy a large scale system, look into smaller units. I have several Aerogardens, and off brand systems like those. I’ve gotten some of them second hand on Facebook marketplace, and the off brands on Amazon. Last Christmas my son gifted me a Gardyn system. I had greens, tiny tomatoes, herbs, peppers all winter. I’ve also grown in soil with grow lights for larger plants, like full size tomatoes. Every little bit is less you have to buy, and you are gaining skills. Not to mention how it lifts your spirits to see beautiful food growing in the middle of winter.

Love your channel, the country is in bad shape lately, it's very sad. Many people have been outed by those in charge and families are in need of help. My heart goes out to them. This is a sign though of what is to likely come in other areas. I think it's not to late for people to learn self sufficiency and disaster preparedness....... Not doomsday prepping the foods that are poisoning us. I pray people come back to the land and abandon the systems in place because we all can see what those systems do to us....... We have been putting up veggies and as always picking mushrooms twice a week. This week mainly lions mane and chestnut mushrooms. Gonna try to build another small outbuilding after I finish healing.
The people that we know that have been there have said the loss of life is unbelievable. No one takes pictures out of respect. Their texts are full of hope they see with the survivors.
Yes, That is why in my videos I'm just doing quick b-roll type shots. I want to respect peoples trauma and lost of property, community, dignity for some who need som much help.

I didn't know that more than greens could be grown on the towers! That's awesome, I currently feed my towers with compost tea or fermented wood chip broth instead of factory nutrients. IDK if it matters either way but thank you for showing all the beans and squash growing in the towers. I have a new project to start now😊

It’s not much but it’s a learning step. Hopefully one day I can get more land. I have been able to use some land at my in laws to grow food too. If there is a will there is a way.

My 16 year old daughter has become obsessed with reading labels and minimizing processed foods since I was diagnosed with cancer. She and my 19 year old son (and my husband and I) have been trying to garden a bit. We have not been very successful, except with tomatoes (which I can’t eat without massive inflammation - 😂). Just started watching you, I think a video yours popped up in my feed around the start of Helene.....I really like your video style and your sustainable lifestyle. I went through a few big floods here in Australia, and like you, was well-prepared, although we didn't know they were going to be devastating floods that cut everybody off and left a lot of us with no power and water. All my gardens were washed away, but I had plenty of food and was able to cook on a camp stove.....rice and beans, rice and lentils supplemented with what vegetables I had in the freezer. Once the water went down enough for me to wade out I could offer food to others.
Anyway, I only came to say hello really, and ask if you grow varieties of beans that you dry and use in soups etc and if you do, would you talk about it please. Take care, it's easy to get disaster burn-out.
I'm glad you found me! I do grow beans and dry them. It's past the season right now but I will have more videos out on the topic next spring. Basically though I just grow whatever beans we like and let them dry on the plant fully if possible and then shell them and toss them in a glass jar.

I heard from my friends in Burnsville! They made it back to the house and got the cars out after being helicoptered out. House was spared simply because the 30”of rain caused land slide was stopped because the road above caught it and stopped it. Neighbors, not so good.

I'm glad they are safe!! I use Tower Garden nutrients. You can use any hydroponic nutrient mix but Tower garden works so well, is clean and I find it easy to store a year supply.
