Niki Lauda years after retiring from being a driver continued to prove himself as one of the greatest people in F1. What a wonderful partnership he helped foster between Sir Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes.

He could see the potential at Mercedes and he had a ton of respect for many of the personnel there - though none more so than Niki. Another factor was the sheer additional workload and commitments insisted on by McLaren during that era. Constant sponsors’ promotions, excessive levels of media events, plus they were ridiculously overbearing with regard to various rights. It was beyond non-stop which was massively different to the freedoms Mercedes have always allowed him.
Sad thing for me is I haven’t even been a fan of the sport that long, always knew who Lauda was and how amazing he was but I always preferred nascar as a kid, now that I’m into it and a Lewis fan, I just wish I got to see him and niki together more. RIP GOAT
