For most people, blocking a 50 foot tall robot's arm with a katana, tossing it into the air, then jumping after it and cutting the arm off would be the achievement of a lifetime. For Raiden, it was just another Monday morning.

Normally, Metal Gears are final boss/ near final boss material. Then there is this game. Where you completely destroy a metal gear as one of your first bosses.
Every other video game ever: Here in this game, you will know how to do this and this and this... Revengeance: Here's a giant robot, you have a sword. You know what to do.
This. The game doesn't teach you much, just blade mode and ninja run I think. Doesn't even teach you how to aim blade mode properly. It doesn't teach you zandatsu either. Kinda sucks at first, but I've grown to like it.
I figured that Raiden siphoned some of Metal Gear RAY's energy to power himself up since you can see his muscle fibers on his suit bulge in size before throwing RAY into the sky.
It's like in MGS4 when he zapped like six soldiers with electricity from ceiling lights. I think he can control electricity but doesn't use it in combat because the enemies are too fast to use on right away, so he does it when they are weak.
Fun Fact: This isn't the first time Raiden has single-handedly beaten a Metal Gear. To be specific, in MGS2 he managed to destroy 22 Metal Gear RAYs WITHOUT cybernetics while only using a Stinger, later succumbing to exhaustion.
He didn't destroy them actually. If you look at one after defeating it, it only backs away. It is still impressive for raiden to survive this as a normal human though.
The amazing thing about this game is Kojima himself had little, if anything to do with this game’s development. Yet it’s arguably more insane than anything he’d done before. That’s actually impressive.
The fall of the Patriots in Metal Gear Solid 4 caused the titular Metal Gears became obsolete by the time Metal Gear Rising takes place. Why bother using giant robots that can launch nukes when you can use cybernetics on humans to make them into efficient killing machines?
Yep, as others have said, Metal Gears have become obsolete by this point. A Cold War relic. Cyborgs are the weapon who have actually surpassed metal gear. That's why this MG Ray was in the hands of a PMC because they're obsolete and thus getting sold off by the government.
Doom Eternal had a lot of batshit insane stuff that was just fun to do. Like shooting a hole into Mars and then firing Yourself out of an Ion Cannon into another space station.

The amazing thing about this game is Kojima himself had little, if anything to do with this game’s development. Yet it’s arguably more insane than anything he’d done before. That’s actually impressive.
You always forget these are "metal gears" as in country ending weapons and a single man just destroyed one with a sword

They're talking about Raiden
The fall of the Patriots in Metal Gear Solid 4 caused the titular Metal Gears became obsolete by the time Metal Gear Rising takes place. Why bother using giant robots that can launch nukes when you can use cybernetics on humans to make them into efficient killing machines?
Yep, as others have said, Metal Gears have become obsolete by this point. A Cold War relic. Cyborgs are the weapon who have actually surpassed metal gear. That's why this MG Ray was in the hands of a PMC because they're obsolete and thus getting sold off by the government.
