Imagine inventing a new spell so significant it became the foundation of a whole new generation of magic usage ...and basically instantly figuring out the counter to the counter to his spell. He probably had less than 5 minutes of screen-time but he Really made an impact during that time
The best part is how logical it is. Strong spell = strong defense required. Anyone in their world with a solid understanding of magic would be able to figure it out. This scene did an excellent job of grounding the magic system while providing excellent worldbuilding.
