I fish these every time I'm on the water and they absolutely crush. I can't think of a time I didn't catch atleast something on one of these. Most days I produce some monster rainbows with them.
Recently broke my back and that kind of took me out of my element. I have been looking into fly tying as a way to get some resemblance of my element. Looking at your work has gotten me even more excited about doing it. I look forward to learning from you on this journey of healing not only bodily but my mind as well. Thanks.
I ordered the material, very fast shipping. Received today and tied up four this afternoon. Pleased. The will all fish. I found the lateral lines challenging, but fun. Can’t wait to try them out. Great pattern.
I’ve always coated my lead with a thin super glue to isolate the lead from the rest of the materials. Your method seams very effective, and kudos for mentioning the leaching lead problem. Your attention to detail with the lateral line is impressive. Great video, keep them coming! Bill from frozen Mn.
I really like your video! Will buy the materials for it. But I have one question on the hook. I normally use Tiemco hooks but wondered since the shank is lead weighted and the hook gape is so wide, I imagine this fly will run with the hook side up. Is there any possibility of the hook penetrating the eye or brain of the fish with this Ahrex hook?
If I heard right, you said the cement was called something like flex. Is it some sort of softer, rubber like cement, cuz covering it in hard cement may make a shy fish reject it, no? Or I guess they just suck them down whole anyway. Love the pattern. Super simple, but with a couple of great touches to put it over the top. Like that line on the side, and the marker came out great.
Nice fly. I use grubs mostly in high water. I use a thin point sharpie for my lateral lines and it works great. I use black and red. Doesn't seem to break down the fly, stays well and it's faster.
I usually fish them under a bobber/right angle drift for trout and steelhead. I have friends that use them whilst centerpin fishing or ice fishing, as well.
I tie my grubs pretty similar but use brown thread instead since the rubber is slightly translucent and you can see the brown thread inside the grub. No need for a lateral line or marker for coloring the head.
Love ur videos Dave just went head first into fly fishing and I’m obsessed with doing my own flys and ur videos are awesome man keep up the good work Man U got me as a subscriber
That is one realistic looking grub! Well done! Impressive. The “this fly should be banned” thing is overused but other than that I would like to have a few of those in my fly box!
That's nice. I can't fly fish anymore due to nerve damage. So I picked up a center pin l fish alot of wax worms this looks like a wax worm. I don't have to use as many this now ..
That tied #12, 3wt fly rod, mess o blue gill!!! I'm in!!! I carry my 3 wt for the heat of the day when the bass seem to slow down. Blue gill eat all day every day. That grub would slay!!! Peace.
Just started tying to occupy my mind in the winter, wanted to make my own larger jigs for bass, hard to find in bait shops around me as the hair jigs are small and more sized for crappie. You do fine work! Subbed and I look forward to learning a lot from you.

I'll stop and listen to someone who has tied so many flies, the finish is worn off their vise.
😅 I have tied a few on her that's for sure.
I noticed that too. Looks like that vise has had a long service life.

Right on. Lots of fly tiers shoot their videos for youtube shorts or insta and there’s nothing wrong but man i like a chill tying video.

Good question. It depends on the angler. Ultimately, not if you hook them in the corner of the mouth.
would it be easier to just draw in the lateral line?
No. It looks like Zorro was making Zs with his sword the marker washes off eventually.
I love the light ball and Stevie nicks in the background. Plus you don't talk to much. Subscribed
Thank you. The Disco ball is lit up sometimes during my lives 😃 😀
Very nice Grub !! What do you use to distribute the UV resin on the fly ? Is that a dental tool ?
Thanks

UV Flex Resin is flexible and loses most of the scent when cured. Thank you.
Hi buddy I'm from Scotland, and that grub fly is the most realistic I've seen all the best
Cheers buddy. I appreciate your fine words.
What hook size and reference is it please?
Ahrex ns172 sz 8-12. Material list in description, as well.

Thank you. I've been tying some sort of grub since the late 80s and fish love them.
Thanks for the video, Dave. Could you tell me how (tackle, technique, etc.) you fish this fly?
I usually fish them under a bobber/right angle drift for trout and steelhead. I have friends that use them whilst centerpin fishing or ice fishing, as well.
I'm gonna use it in a float tube, let it sink and strip back in slow increments. Killer!
NICE!
This pattern probably does great on winter steelies, looks awesome. Makin' me want to learn to tie
Yes sir. I have several variations that were designed for that purpose. Get to tying 😀
Stunning, if I hadn’t watched you do it, I would never have believed it.
Thank you
I tie my grubs pretty similar but use brown thread instead since the rubber is slightly translucent and you can see the brown thread inside the grub. No need for a lateral line or marker for coloring the head.
Sweet. I tie them in a multitude of ways. That's part of what makes tying fun.
And it also depends on the latex. Some isn't translucent.
@davehise Looking at someone's flies says more about them than it does the fish they are trying to catch. Or so I think.
@@Jaxd9795 what do my flies say about me?
@davehise You seem like you would be a well organized, meticulous person who can be very detail oriented.
Can you share where I can purchase this lead wire in the bulk roll? Thanks
I believe I have a 1/2lb spool in .015 at my store. I get them from Wapsi.
Really cool fly with nice detail. Were some of the Fleetwood Mac songs done by a cover singer? Didn't quite sound the same...
I'm not sure about the tunes, but thank you for the kind words.

Great Grub pattern, try one with hook Gamakatsu C-12UB
Thank you. Yeah... that Gama is a neat hook.
Excellent. Great way which I've done is tie in gills. Ernest Schwiebert in his book Nymphs, builds his nymphs with ostrich herl and micro wire.
Yes, sir. I also do gills when I'm representing caddis and midge larva and mayfly nymphs. Sometimes.I use ostrich and sometimes pheasant aftershaft.
