- Penny looks through the lens and sees something fuzzy. It turns out, it was a comet.

Penny deserved a lot of credit for the discovery of the comet . Raj’s telescope was set up on Penny’s rooftop and she did tell Raj about seeing something on the telescope. Penny also took the picture of the comet and told him to keep it, even though he said “ don’t worry about it, I’ll probably delete it later “ . Not to mention; that Penny helped give Raj the confidence to talk to people on his own without alcohol. So without Penny in general, Raj wouldn’t have discovered the comet or properly notify the comittiee without being drunk.

Billions of apples fell off trees, but only newton realised what it actually meant. Same here - penny saw the comet, but raj was the one who realised what it was and the story behind it
I've noticed a trend...everyone with and Indian name says the same thing, that Raj is right? Are all Indians thieves? Is it a cultural thing?
"Excuse me?!!"
Doesn't matter if she didn't knew what it was! She's still the one who found it! If it wasn't for her the comet would fly by and no one there would see it!
@@FRODIII No it wouldnt, raj positioned the telescope and asked her to look at it. She clearly didnt discover it
That's different. Newton didn't discover an apple falling, he came up with the theory of gravity through the apple. The comet was discovered by Penny because she's the one who found it. This is like someone who discovered an ancient pharoh's tomb and reported it to someone else, where even though the experts are the ones who know what it was, they didn't discover the tomb, the person who reported it did. That means that with this, Penny deserve the credit for finding something that otherwise would have been missed by the guys.
I think this would’ve been hilarious if it was Sheldon who looked into the telescope instead and found the comet LOL
But sheldon probably would have known it was a comet right away
That would have been more hilarious... He could approach court sue to Rajesh Koothrapali for taking the credit. 🤣
I think , as a scientist himself Sheldon would have understand what this discovery means to Raj and his profession.... Sheldon doesn't care about discover a comet. All he cares about is Theoretical Physics.... It's Penny who's an attention seeker...
@@Kshitij.Chandel Sheldon once wanted to name a planet after him that he figured out with the data Raj collected
Both of them argued and finally Sheldon settled the debate with their girlfriends names, Am from Amy, y from Emily so that he could name it Amy.
If Sheldon found the comet in this case, Raj wouldn't even have time to register it to his name, Sheldon would've done it way before him.
Then I would have agreed that sheldon should get the credit because he'd have immediately noticed that it was a comet but for penny it could easily have been a blot on the telescope lens. So i don't think she should get the credit for discovering it, however it was a dick move on Raj's part for not even giving her a mention.🤣
i love that people actually argue in the comments, about which of the them is the one who discovered it xD
Ran Sherman yeah xD
Yeah we should be pissed at Sheldon for being more out of line than Raj was because he kept going ON AND ON over a random comic book chick in front of his fiancee! Unacceptable. That was a bigger issue than the comet argument.

Not an idiot if you have an opinion. God bless those who cannot think for themselves and agrees one person discovered the comet ONLY because everyone else thinks so.
Zoe Fang God bless anyone who spends time and energy arguing about people who don't exist doing something that didn't happen.
you know about 11 years ago penny wouldn't even care enough to argue over a comet or could even finish a sentence about a comet so she really grew and payed attention to what her friends does I think her character is underrated she cares about her friends and listens to what they care about even if her interest aren't the same and she has so much patience for sheldon
I think Penny was interested in their scientific pursuits back in the day. She seemed more into those than all the science fiction movies etc.

Guys arguing that Raj wouldn't have found it if penny didn't look. But they forget that Raj told penny to take a look, so if Raj took a look instead, he would discover it. So technically it is Raj's discovery
The point is that they should both SHARE credit. All that time that Raj was looking through his telescope, and he didn't see shit. However, the moment that Penny hopped on, she saw it. Discovery means being the first to see or find something. It doesn't matter if Raj is the scientist, or that it was his equipment. All that is irrelevant to the definition of discovery. However, Raj did identify that it was a comet, and thus, they both should be sharing credit. It amazes me how people in the comment are doing the most mental gymnastics to even elude any sort of logic all because it's Penny.
I didn't say that they shouldn't both share credit. By all means, they can do that. But if you want to know who made the discovery. I just decided that I'd ease everyone's minds by letting them know. (If anyone else on the planet saw it, they didn't discover it legally. Raj did.) Major credits for Raj, but although Penny DID see it first, I’m routing for Raj, he set up the equipment, got the angle right, then let Penny see through it.
Raj gets ALL the credit. Astrophysics has always been his realm. He set the telescope directly at the comet's location. ALL Penny did was look into the telescope. It was already there before she saw it. If that was her telescope and SHE set it at the comet's location and saw it, YES that's her discovery. But that's clearly not the case.
FINE lets say if an astronomer positioned his telescope directly at Jupiter and Venus in the sky and I looked into it and I saw Jupiter and Venus does it mean I discovered them? Of course not.
CREDITS FOR RAJ for setting the telescope at the exact location of the comet, for identifying as a comet. CASE CLOSED.
NOPE. I didn't do a thing. All I did was look into them. I didn't do the math, I didn't position the telescope, I didn't do a thing but look. Discovery goes to the astronomer. RAJ set it up and identified it. CASE CLOSED.
Amy and Howard made better science partners than Penny & Raj.
Raj definitely gets the credit as he was the one who knew it was a comet but penny should get mentioned as she was the one who lucky enough to see it first, like, Newton did mention the apple in his story so raj also should mention penny
Raj knowing its a comet is a secondary point here...Raj positioned it and zoomed it ...all penny did was look into it... it's not like Penny randomly positioned it and saw the comet...if he asked any person in the world to see through the telescope everyone would have said the same penny has said (that's there's something)
Fair enough
But the appearance of the comet was not in the knowledge of Raj. It was random.

I was on Penny's side first... But after reading some comments I would have to go with Raj on this one. Penny did see it first, but had no idea what it was. Much like gravity, hundreds of millions of people have seen it before Newton discovered it.
Everyone has their own opinion about who should get the credit and sadly unlike you no matter what anyone else says they won't change their mind. My issue with this clip, I haven't seen the episode yet so it could be resolved later I don't know, is how Raj handles it. They've been friends for 11 years, not only did he not even consider adding her name and I'm assuming by what Leonard said they could have had both but he had no remorse not even thinking about sharing the credit with her. If he would have just shown any sign he was sorry he disregarded not only someone he's been friends with that long but one of his closest friends who's been there for him when he's needed it in the past then I would be happy.

Raj is the real discoverer. You can see some bones in the ground but you can discover that it’s dinosaur fossils. Raj wins this one.
nah both discover this comet. this just same as when sheldon and amy argue with experimental physicist that discover asymmetric but know nothing about it untill sheldon and amy explain that theoretically.
@@danielkim6736 how ...u can say that when penny positioned it randomly and discovered the comet...but she didn't raj positioned it...
In science nowdays to prove that you were the first to discover something you must have proof. Raj had the telescope focused in one place, looked at it saw nothing new and then invited penny to look. She insisted that she was seeing something when everyone else dismissed her and SHE TOOK A PICTURE. thats how you establish proof. She could have gone to any astrophysicist and ask for opinion of what she insisted was something and they would say congratulations madam you discovered a comment, Raj just happen to be that astrophysicist because he's her friend. That doesn't make it his Discovery. I don't deny his contribution, thats why i think they should share this Discovery from the very first moment but his initial response was unacceptable. If I had to choose only one discoverer however, for the sake of the argument, for the reasons listed above I would choose penny.
@@cicatrixnictophilii well that would work aside from the fact that Raj positioned it, knew what it was, and another scientist, Leonard agrees that Raj discovered it. All Penny did was saw a fuzzy streak and took a picture that Raj told her to do. Christoper Columbus FOUND that there was a way to sail west and find land, but he thought that it was the East Indies, but Amerigo Vespucci discovered that it wasn’t Asia, but in fact a whole new landmass. Who, from Europe, do we give credit for discovering America? Amerigo Vespucci.
@@danielkim6736 it’s not the same as that though
in deep impact, dr. wolf had the decency to share the discovery of the comet with leo biederman. raj should've done the same thing.
Sheldon compared her with Cocou the Gorilla and she was ok (well, the relationship between Sheldon and Penny never was sexuallity, they are like brother/sister)
Yes, but she’s grown a lot between then and now, so to be compared to a monkey after she helped make an actual discovery makes her furious because it’s further cementing the unfair stereotype that Penny is just some bleach blonde bimbo getting by on her looks instead of her skills. And for that to be coming from Raj, a guy who is supposed to be one of her closest friends, makes it doubly hurtful.
Just call it Koothrappali-Hofstaedter and be done with it...
I'm pretty sure in situations like this you would use the girls maiden name
@@moizmoosajee1432 Her maiden name was never revealed though.
@@moizmoosajee1432 I dont think so. Madame Curie is not known as Madame Sklodowska.
Penny discovered it. No contest.
KingdomHeartsFan3211 I don’t think so.Do you think everyone in history that are known for their discoveries are the first ones to stumble upon their discoveries? The ones who understand the value behind it are the ones who get recognized otherwise you are just an observer. Open and shut case
But he didn't recognize the value before, after she took the picture, because she said it was something special. I'd say it was Penny who discovered it. And no, most people don't get the value of it, until it is explained to them, but that goes for Raj too.
Carsten Hansen so who had the means and the resources to get there first? Would penny even bother to find out what it was? Whose equipment did they use to take the picture and who was the one who pointed out that it looked like a comet?
@joe20m20 - Chuck Yeager is known as the man who broke the sound barrier in 1947. He did it in a plane made by the US airforce. Would you say it was Chuck Yeager, that broke the sound barrior or the US air force?
Carsten Hansen he is the man who broke sound barrier not discovered sound barrier. The engineers who designed it so are the ones who invented such a aerodynamic machine. Neil Armstrong didn’t discover moon if you were wondering about that too
I'm with Raj on this one. He positioned the telescope and he told Penny to take a picture and he knew what it was. He discovered it.
It’s both of them, both names should be credited. She observed it first, he identified what it was
I agree too. Penny's name can be in paper but not as discoverer. Raj should get major credit
Interesting moral dilemma. To me it's not even a debate. She saw it, so she discovered it.
His claim would be like taking a photo of the whole sky and claiming you've discovered everything in the picture cause you positioned the camera, which is obviously nonsense.
There is no philosophical or morally or factual way he discovered the comet.
@@mdaniels6311 looking at something doesn't make you a discoverer, identifying and knowing what it is, do. Newton discovered gravity, who should get the credit? Newton or the apple? Penny is the apple.
@@angelminaj617 the apple story is apocryphal by the way. Newton didn't discover gravity as any caveman who fell down a ravine will tell you, but he came up with a theory to describe gravity's effects.
You are comparing apples to oranges, pardon the pun.
So if I discover a alien spacecraft via telescope, but I don't know what it is, I'm not the discoverer?
Penny saw it, Raj discovered it.
That makes no sense. However saw it discovered it. Raj identified that it was a comet, but Penny saw it first. They both deserve to share credit. I really don't get why people find this so hard to understand.
@@MissNayNay It's you who do not understand how it works in scientific community. If there is only one name slot, it's going to be the name of the first author/ project lead.
@@tuanseattle Not necessarily. What kind of scientific community you're working on? That would cause a shit ton of legal problem. In the context of the scene, the intention was not to discover something new. So there is no project here, just casual stargazing. However Penny sees and discoveres somethings, and gets the proof as she think it's worth. Then the scientist looking at the picture identifies it. The person who has discovered it is Penny. Raj was just the scientist that's get to be asked for information.
Raj could have named the comet 'Comet Penny'... that would have been great!
That "EXCUSE MEEE" killed me 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
One might say it was Haley's Comet...
Q I see what you did there. 😎
Lucifer S. Morningstar I don’t get it :/
You mean, Kaley's Comet?
Everyone arguing lol😂 listen here is how it should work in my opinion. Raj is an Astrophysicist and cares deeply about that stuff. Penny doesn’t give to shits about comets and stars... but what she does care about is the principal. No she wouldn’t have known the difference without Raj but Raj didn’t see it either. It was him being so quick to dismiss her that made her so angry. He could have given them credit together or asked her if he could take credit given his profession and it meaning something to him and she probably would have been okay with it. There problem solved for an imaginary world that doesn’t exists..... so maybe the problem isn’t solved Bazinga 😂
Bazinga also
I don’t think a person of that kind would been considerate enough to reciprocate the favor
yo y was she she pissed with himshe doesnt reall care bout science n wat up with ppl calling penny a bitch she aint wat up that
emmauel pinno what do u mean all she care s about is the principle n i thought penny n sheldon r friends y penny geting pissed over something she dont care about ??
One of my classic pranks
You Know at first, I didn’t really know who should have gotten the credit for discovering the comet first, but then I realized something. Penny says that she sees something, but Raj dismisses it first and says it could just be her eyelash. So if Penny didn’t insisted that she say something, they could have missed it by accident.
But if Raj didn't tell her to take a picture, penny could've just dismissed it, too. Even if penny took a picture without Raj's command, she may think, "ooh, it's nothing. Guess I'll just watch the stars" and throw the idea away that it's a comet, which she wouldn't have come up with if it weren't for Raj. What if on the other neighborhood someone discovered it first but didn't know it what it was. Would he still be considered as the first person to discover it?
well if you were ordering someone to take something they found, were you the one who discovered it or was it the person who saw it first? like what if you went to some ancient ruins then your friend found a super cool knife, your friend wasn't sure so you told your friend to go get it so we could make sure, were you the one who discovered it because of you bringing your friend, or you telling your friend to get it or your friend for finding it?
another one, if you brought a friend to a nice restaurant, then he suddenly starts complaining about something uncomfortable, you said: "well if it's uncomfortable then remove what is making you uncomfortable", then he shoots a guy in the head in the opposite side of the room, your friend didn't like the way the person was looking at him, so did you kill the man because you brought your friend here, or because you gave the suggestion, or was it your friend's fault?
(I wanted to use kill instead of remove in the dialogue but it sounded out of place so I had to use remove, because there is no word for "violently remove something", if I say eradicate or eliminate it sounds awkward and out of place, and doesn't really convey what I mean)
I personally believe it was penny's achievement, however it is true that raj was the one who coerced penny to take a picture, so I can't really side with anyone here and just want both of them to take credit, but making use of my second example-ish, I believe it to be the friend's fault for killing someone, so yeah I gotta say penny here
although if we are arguing that raj "discovered" it and penny was just the first to "see" it, then ok techinically raj did discover it, penny just saw it first, but they said that it was a comet never seen before, so I still believe it should be penny
penny was kinda mad because this is the first time something worked out for her as far as achievements go. I mean failed actress, failed relationships so many failure and this ws finally something that she could put her name to. But Team raj all the way on this one
This entire episode makes me more uncomfortable than the fact that Sheldon has a laundry schedule.
Penny barely seems to have any interest in science and forcing on her name in the discovery is just an added injustice to Raj's character
It doesn’t matter if she doesn’t have an interest. She pointed out it could be something when Raj didn’t think it was anything, which convinced him to take a picture and led to the discovery. She should at least get shared credit, so the way Raj snuck around and just claimed it was pretty rotten of him. You don’t do that to friends.
@@Jeff_Pryce but if Raj was looking through the telescope he wouldnt of thought it was an eyelash he probably would of recognized it where as theres alot of jokes at the expense of Pennys Intelligence she has smart moments but is mostly pretty dumb and her confusing an eyelash was supposed to be funny cause shes that clueless or something if Raj Wasnt there she would of thought of well whatever and carried on no picture would be taken and that would of been the end of it but he set up the camera and everything to take pictures...so yeah
@@MeelogMalterion Penny didn't confuse the comet for an eyelash, lol. Raj is the one who dismissed whatever she was seeing as an eyelash, probably because he'd JUST looked through the telescope himself and didn't notice the comet. And then he told her to take a picture only because she was insistent that she was seeing something of interest. Not sure what makes you think she would've brushed it off, considering how immediately interested she was in what she was seeing.
What injustice are talking about, he was being an asshole the whole episode, if she hadn’t even said anything, Raj wouldn’t have discovered it in the first place.
@@MeelogMalterion actually no he wouldn't He even says in the scene he didn't know what it was he just said "probably" a comet
"Playing hard to get...i like that in a planet" Sheldon can make anything sound hilarious
Fun Fact: the telescope was tilted way too high on the zenith for a mercury elongation when the observer is located at Pasadena California. and the telescope used doesnt have a camera. penny just used the controller that comes with the telescope.
This may be an in joke for astronomers. Alle concerning the discovery of pulsars . Raj might be Anthony Hewish and Penny might be Jocelyn Bell . The tale almost is like this episode . Hewish got the Nobel prize early 70s . Jocelyn Bell is now recognised as discoverer of pulsars and awarded the Breakthrough prize 2018 . There's a video.
Raj is broken already and this comet will help him gain some reputation but what does Penny even gonna do with that thing, she doesn't even know what a comet is...she could have helped Raj by letting him have the credit..
To be fair, Raj was originally going to name the comet after Penny's last name......... but nobody knows it.
Raj is right Penny. You don't even know what a comet is. Let it go and let the astrophysicist do his job.
Except he didn't do his job. He just stood around doing nothing until Penny pointed out the fuzzy object.
is that the rooftop that joey and ross got locked up in friends?🤣
Its funny how people believe penny discovered it.
Its not a discovery unless you know what you have discovered.
Eg - Gravity as a phenomenon was known by people way before Newton but it was Newton who technically discovered it.
So from he non-nordic European point of view, Columbus didn't discover America because he thought that he was in East Asia.
Newton didn't discover gravity. He interpreted it.
@@alexh8613 Columbus didn't discover America. Bad argument
@@alexh8613 Columbus didnt discover America. Native Americans discovered America. All Columbus did was report back to royal family back in italy.

Not true. If I find weird metals while digging in my backyard so I call up the local news and it turns out to be Alien Artifacts that prove we are not alone in the Universe, I would be credited with the discovery, not the government scientist that identified them.
Penny discovered it. She kept saying she saw something strange and Raj kept insisting it was nothing, saying it was an eyelash. I also didn't like Raj's tone when saying penny didn't discover anything, he came off as rough and abusive toned because she was happy she discovered something. He could have put both their names but he wanted to be greedy. I don't even think penny would have minded him taking credit if he hadn't spoken to her the way he did.
Never liked Raj, I think the actor is fantastic but as a character I can’t stand him, he’s selfish arrogant and just a plain old douchebag!
How long does comet stay in view of the the telescope?
Howard: “ is it your teen years?”
Penny: “No….yes….shut up!”
It was clearly raj
I'm not going to read all of the comments, but I hope I'm not the first person to point out that Mercury can only be seen shortly after sunrise and shortly before sunset, which also means that it will be much lower in the sky.
This episode reminds me of the episode from Friends. The one where no one slept.
Steward is like that thing that keeps popping up in Ice Age movies🤣
Let's ignore the comet, and answer the real question. Antarctic vibranium (or vibranium B) would be the strongest metal (or antimetal) since it can melt all other metals, including adamantium.
Penny didn't know Telescope makes far away things look closer when she just said that she watched an entire episode of a show through that thing...TBBT's writing surely degraded in the later episodes (yeah not as much as GoT though !)
Since it's a sitcom it can be excused
I lost it when he said Neil Gaiman was there he is one of my favorite authors and I was so happy to see him here I was fanboying
The "Excuse me" had me rolling. She was superrrr pissed LMAO
I'm certain Penny would not be able to tell the difference between a comet and an artificial satellite.
The way Penny yelled EXCUSE ME, I got scared
Haha I'm so Stuart when I'm on Twitter
I see something...It could just be your Eyelash 😅😂
it comes down to ethics and law which are 2 very different things
in ethics, Raj should share credit but by law, he doesn't have too
Sushant Singh Rajput of bollywood had the exact same telescope but sadly got killed by Salman Khan and Riya's ex boyfriend Mahesh Bhatt
It sort of relates to the story of monkey who managed to take a picture using someone's camera and people were fighting over if the photo rights belonged to the guy or the monkey when the picture was taken
I think it was less of a fight and more of a Lawsuit against the guy who put down the camera in the intention that the monkeys can take pictures. And how the world is, he lost the lawsuit and was deeply shattered and broke.....
yeah, I remember that, it was a really famous selfie that the mankey took of itself, then it went viral.
I don't know the idea that I animal can own the rights to anything is kind of a joke just take the camera back from the monkey ownerships 9/10 of the law let's see them take the picture stop me from using it the monkey can't really argue is point so really the owner of the monkey is arguing about the picture.
He discovered it. Next episode.
Playing hard to get, I like that in a planet .....😂😂
Another case of Sheldon and howard and raj just destroying penny
Yeah, I think he went a little too far, she deserved some credit for finding it
Daniel waugh he should name it after her
but this is Raj, he became such a self centred jerk and think of himself now
oh f*ck off she didn't discover sh*t raj's point is right if a monkey comes along and snapped the picture he wouldn't be the one who discovered it either it was the person who set it up and was activly looking at the stars
Bloody Waitress getting credit, Raj is a Physicist, Penny just got lucky getting a right Neighbour otherwise, she didn't knew even 6th Grade Science. Really Dumb Girl. Nothing more than a Mouth.
I think both of them discovered it tho… both did a contribution so
Loved How sheldon explained about telescope and mercury😁
Come on, Kuthrapenny is a great name for a comet.
Leonard....when your wife gets pissed....SHUT UP BRO!!!!!!!
So that's about.......all the time? I mean, when has Penney ever NOT gotten upset at Leonard? I know its well-established that Leonard has no spine but he's not even allowed to tell her when she's being unreasonable? Its so funny that, for all those years when they were making fun of Sheldon's inability to connect with any human being, now Sheldon is in a much much better relationship than Leonard.
Dave Mitch well let me clarify..........she got pissed when raj said monkey and what not. At this point he should've shut up or backed her up at the same time. I mean dam....anybody implying calling my wife a monkey.....yeah im telling em to get out too. Dam....i missed this EPISODE last night.
LEAVE LEONARD ALONE. What did he do? When he's trying to comfort her he needs to shut up. Let me guess if he doesn't say anything, I bet you'll be just as mad that he didn't say anything. Leave Leonard alone.
IKR. People need to stop siding with Penny all the time.
Penny is WAY worse than Sheldon many times. Sheldon doesn't intentionally do it and he apologizes and acknowledges. Penny never does. I never seen her apologize for taking Leonard for granted or ridiculing the guys' nerdy interests or leaving Amy out when the girls go dress shopping for Bernadette's wedding. Or when Amy gave Penny a painting from her heart, Penny was SUCH a bitch to her.
when Raj stepped back and Howard was given that stare. They both know Penny can kick their asses easily lol.
Anyone who has watched more than like 4 episodes would know immediately that Raj would claim sole credit.
He's at the worst career slump, that comet would've given him a great leap in the field of Astrophysics, whereas I means nothing to Penny. Just a cool anecdote she would recall. If I was in her shoes and my friend was the Astrophysicist who set up the telescope and pointed it and allowed me to look into it, I'd definitely let him have it, I'd even ask him to NOT share credit and take full credit.
