Thanks for putting this video together. We've (of course) continued development, made some updates, and even made some new applications for kids to learn, such as Music Blocks visual programming language.

You always come through with the best videos. I was looking for Sugar Desktop videos because quite frankly never heard of it until today lol which is funny because I've been running Linux for 20 some years lol. Every video that I found was how to install it 90% of the videos have no sound. I just want to thank you for always putting out the best videos.

The making of it might have been well meaning, but I probably would have been frustrated with it even as a kid. I think mobile platforms ironically turned out to be better at simplifying the GUI in comparison without turning it in to what I view Sugar is, a bit of a mess.

This looks more confusing than using a more popular DE.

When I was these kids' age, I used MS-DOS 6.22, and I turned out just fine.

@@HebaruSan And so did millions of others... But almost no one uses Sugar OS. Sorry, it's stuff like this that prevents linux from populating and becoming more popular.

The simplified view when your stick person zooms away and your circle of launchers disappears is actually some kind of community view. If you were on a LAN (or Bluetooth) with other machines running Sugar, those users would appear as icons in a circle around you. Clicking their icon lets you see which learning games they like to play the most, and lets you invite them to play a game with you. I did some messing around with this for a college class last year. Our assignment was to work out a new international product from design, through marketing, and all the way to after-sale services. We decided to create a laptop based on Raspberry Pi hardware that we could market to school systems in low-tech countries in South America (specifically Uruguay). I downloaded the Fedora-Sugar ISO and evaluated it as our competition. While the OLPC laptop works well as a glorified Vtech toy, it doesn't actually teach the user anything at all about computers and technology (except for a random simple Python editor that comes with it). The interface is unconventional and not even close to what you'll see in a real computer. You can't learn anything about the hardware. It has very limited compatibility with other machines and peripheral devices. The product we designed to compete with it was geared much more toward teaching kids who've never seen a computer how to use one. It had the potential to teach Uruguayan kids more about computer hardware and software than most Americans my age who grew up around computers know. It was a fun project =)

Feels like a "simple mode" found on some Android phones.

It looks like it would be good for a game console desktop environment

It looks like it's made for vision impaired people. To be honest I'm getting anxious only by looking at it. Poor children!

while olpc was great, sugar looks horrible to use, I think the command line might be more appealing

spins.fedoraproject.org/en/soas/ "Sugar on a Stick" ... I'd thought that'd be Fedora 25 which is the one that was just released a few weeks ago .. though I have to say I have never tried Sugar

The thought is very novel but why would the presume that children want a ugly looking desktop. They could have made it more eye catchy. This desktop will traumatize the children and put them off for good...

A worst introduction about an operating system, specially for a product totally related to children. The video is more forgettable even for adults.
