    13 Business students watched this video and disliked it because they didn't know how the get the area of the triangle

      This is funny because after watching this video I tried one on my own and got the wrong answer because i forgot to divide the area of a triangle by 2. I didn't know why I got it wrong until I read your comment lol.

    how did get your F2 distance of 5 when the total distance on the left side is 3?

    • @pom882
      @pom882 3 года назад +10

      The F2 action in the centroid of triangle which is 2/3 * 3 +3 = 5

  • @guruprasad1693
    @guruprasad1693 4 года назад +18

    Why do we take F2 from 1/3 of the distance from the base?

    • @smoothy569
      @smoothy569 2 года назад

      because the centroid of a triangle is at 1/3. look it up on images to visualize it.

    • @MomStillah
      @MomStillah 5 лет назад +18

      Moment calculations use center of mass in the x direction for distributed forces. In a triangle, the center of mass in the x direction is 1/3 the distance of base, away from the corner where the right angle is.

    • @Bababaroii
      @Bababaroii 5 лет назад +3

      Its because of the centroid of a TRIANGLE. The centroid of triangle is located by two points, 1/3 of the triangle from left OR 2/3 from left.

    why is that distance 5 instead of 6 for F2's moment

    • @bryanosegueda4203
      @bryanosegueda4203 4 года назад +8

      It's the distance from the arrow of F2. So for triangles you multiply the base times 2/3. In that case 3(2/3) giving you 2. So you take 2m + the other 3m (from F1 to B) which equal 5m.

      its a rule of distributive forces... triangle's are always replaced with a force 1/3 away from the longest length, where rectangles are replaced with a force directly half of the length. look at his videos of load distribution, they explain it

    The sum of the upward forces is not equal to the sum of the downward forces why?

  • @davidvalle3068
    @davidvalle3068 5 лет назад +2

    Why 1/3?

    • @superwingdings
      @superwingdings 5 лет назад

      Because the center of a right triangle is always 1/3 from the side perpendicular to x-axis.

    • @haidenmurray9014
      @haidenmurray9014 5 лет назад +2

      @David Valle He does this because the force has to be measured at the center of mass of the triangle. The center of mass I believe is called a centroid. This goes for the rectangle as well, which is why the force is put in the center of the rectangle. When the taller side of the triangle is on the left, the center of mass is at 1/3 the length of the triangle. If the taller side of the triangle was on the right, the center of mass would be at 2/3 the length of the triangle. Sorry, that was a lot of explanation, but hopefully that helps.

    • @cassidythornbury4033
      @cassidythornbury4033 7 лет назад +1

      F2 is placed 1/3 away from point A, so the remainder of the triangle is 2/3.. which is equal to 2m. then add it to the length of the rectangle to get a total of 5m
