I was a Navy wife. My husband was on the air craft carrier CVN-69 Dwight D Eisenhower. He deployed when I was 7 months pregnant and came home when our daughter was 5 months old. It was so hard and heartbreaking having our first baby by myself as a young newlywed. My due date was our 1st anniversary. Tough tough times. It was so hard for him not being with us. I was strong for him and our baby girl. This was in 1983. No internet. No cell phones. No face time. Just letters with the upsidedown stamp on it. I was so proud of my husband and he was so proud of me. Love you Billy. You're a good man. Thank you for sharing and caring. You make me smile.

Billy, I know how much those letters from home matter. I married young, and we lived in my home town for a year, then my husband went back to college -- I was away from my family for months at a time -- so I do understand how much the letters from home mean. Then, my husband was out of college and we moved to Florida -- even further away from my family. My husband went to college in Longview, Texas and our son was born there -- it was hard -- and I do appreciate how much harder it has to be for our veterans. Thank you, all of you veterans, for what you do. I love America, and I appreciate the tremendous stresses you endure for the cause of freedom. May God bless you.

My grandpa was in WWI, my Daddy along with 2 of his brothers were in WWII, two of my uncle's were in Korea, one of them was also in Vietnam. My brother was in the Air Force, my best friend was in Desert Storm. My son's father was in Afghanistan during 911, we last him. This video had me crying so much I couldn't even see the screen.

Billy I'm a retired Aircraft Mechanic from the Navy, I retired in 1991 after Desert Shield/Storm. In my time we didn't have email and the internet. Our connection to family and friends was by letters, a phone call when we pulled into a port or if a message had to get home while we were at sea we could request a message be sent from the Mars station which was Ham Radio and Ham operators around the world would pass the message along until it got to a Ham Operator in your area and he would deliver the message, of course this was before all the Terrorist threats. Even with the ease of communication today I cant stress enough how much a letter, email or message from home means to those serving. Communication from friends and family means everything to them. If you know someone serving drop them a line, it's one of the greatest gifts you can give them.

I grew up a Navy brat. The worst thing my mom could do to me was utter the words "just wait until your dad gets home". That warning takes on a whole new level of impact when you're 5-years old and dad is only 1 month into a 6 month WestPac cruise.
Interestingly enough, my dad died in 2007, and I would give parts of my anatomy for somebody to tell me, "just wait until your dad comes home" again.

I served in the Navy during Vietnam. We didn't get homecomings like that. There was no internet or youtube. You came home and just went to work no one cared. You didn't even really know if someone else was a Vet or not because no one talked about it. I left the service in 1970 after joining in 1964.
    Thank you for your service!

When I first heard this one, I was thinking of it like a trucker song, which I suppose is still feasible, they're away a lot too. When it hit me that it was military, I had to pull off the road. Thank all you military peeps for all you do. On a different subject, I sent you a twitter message a while back with something ( I am mostly a Facebook user. I am horrible at most social media so I'm not sure if it went through. ) but yeah, I'd really appreciate if you'd react to that if possible :) Thumbs up on this one.

Miranda Lambert, Over you. I lost my 28 year old brother in 2001 to a massive heart attack. This song makes me cry every time I hear it. He was my best friend. I will never get over him. Even though it's been 18 years it seems like it was yesterday. Me being his baby sister he always protected me. And now I'm so empty inside. Seeing his stone, I just can't 😭😭😭

My husband was in the Marine Corps and he would always tell me that the hardest job in the Marines was being a Marine wife. He would say he knew where he was going and what he had to do. But the spouse that stayed behind always had to wonder and guess, all the while staying strong and keeping everything in order back home. I remember during his first deployment after we were married, he was sent to Iraq, and it was hard. I would watch the news every chance I got, just Incase I could get a glimpse. Military life is hard, but it’s so worth it. Thank you for your service Billy and all other veterans and spouses!

My last ever deployment before my back gave out completely involved my daughter on both ends...the day my wife took me to the airport she said “dada” and pointed at me (so it wasn’t just sounds). The day I got back, my daughter walked out to me (which shocked my wife...the surprise in her eyes was evident)
This song was played by me at least once a week while I was playing in the sandbox for those 6 months...

My mom visits her mom’s grave every year on Valentine’s Day, Christmas as well I believe, and on her birthday. My mom still misses her mom to this day and she cries when she thinks of her and I always like to comfort my mom to let her know that she’s not alone because she has me to love forever.
