Beautiful!! 👍One thing I love about having curly hair - and also what makes it easy to do at-home trims - we don't need a "precision" haircut like straight-haired gals do. Plus, curly hair is so forgiving, I could mess up and no one would know, cause it'd STILL look good! 😄
I like how u did crown first and leave bottom section. Now I think I can get cut I actually want. No stylist has evr been good at cutting my hair. Stopped going few years ago so thank u. Thank u!
Here we are in the times of covid and thanks to you I have cut my own hair! I was desperately due for a cut just when everything shut down. I made my appointment months ago and everything was cancelled Indefinitely. I watched your video and I’ve done it and I feel so much better! And the beauty part is I have made adjustments since doing it and I am not afraid to snip away! A few people told me it looks better than when I go to my curly hair specialist! Thank you so much 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
This is legit one of the best diy cuts I’ve seen. I started doing my own cuts first one came out great other two not so. Can’t wait to try this. Thank you Curly Cathi love the shape!
This was so interesting to watch! Definitely more advanced than I'm comfortable doing on myself at this point but it was cool to see how you use a guide and get rid of the points, etc. Most DIY haircut tutorials don' go into that kind of detail.
You have gorgeous hair and curls. When will you be doing another haircut tutorial? I would love to see from a different dimension how far you pull your front hair before cutting it. I will try to cut it today!
Cathi, your hair is gorgeous! I appreciate this video as you not only give us a visual, but also talk us through what you’re doing. My hair is curly as well, but I had to have a total thyroidectomy five years ago, so my hair has changed a great deal. The curl pattern is erratic, and it’s so different from what I was used to. You have inspired me to take control of my locks and shape them up! Have a beautiful day!
Omg I'm SOOO glad I found your video!! After paying $125 for a weave and haircut yesterday...I left looking just like a flipping French poodle Xmas tree/ big bell look when she was all done ughh! It was my first time with this lady & I was afraid to speak up grrr!! So I've been searching for hours on here all night at work, so that I could hopefully fix it myself.. I couldn't believe it when I found your video!!😲👍🏼 I have an identical blonde version of your hair lol. You did such an awesome job explaining the steps as well. So I can't wait till I'm off at 8 am, so that I can go home and replay your video as I too cut away this God awful Xmas tree look!!🤗 Keep fingers crossed that I don't somehow screw it up lol!!😬🙏🏼 Thank you so much for posting this.🤗🌼👍🏼
I watched your video a few times then decided to try it out... Turned out absolutely gorgeous 😊 ty so much. Best video on how to cut curly hair hands down.
Thank you, Thank you! You made it look easy ... and it was!! I, like so many other commentors, finally found a cut that works with my curls! LOVE MY HAIR NOW!
I love how you just go for it!!! It's so challenging to cut curly hair. Whenever I get my hair done, I get the shelving it body shape and I hate it so much. When I shape up my hair it tends to look so much better, but I've never thought to do it while my hair is curly!! I actually tend to straighten my hair, do a shape up then was and go curly, but this is a great idea for a more organic cut! Do you ever straighten your hair, or do you always wear it curly? Thank you for sharing this!!!
I used to straighten it everyday. Then I did about half and half. I have not straightened it in 3 years. Not because I’m so protective of my hair I don’t want to damage it, it’s because I’m lazy.
Wonderful job!! I have nearly identical hair and curl as you...wish you could cut my hair! With Covid, I'm getting desperate and thinking about cutting my hair. You make it look easy!
I have been hacking my hair for as long as I can remember due to either not trusting others, when I want ot done I want it done, or mostly I don't have funds. Your hair is alot like mine in many ways! Midnight haircut I'm thinking and possibly send before and after.
Thank you so much for this video. I am going to try the point cutting aspects. I am try to get the curl to curl inwards not out. I want the layers to be more integrated instead of like shelves. :)
Thank you, that was great. How would you cut it if you had to take some length off? Would that be at the beginning or the end and it would be a straight cut? Also, did you use your curl cream sore styling creams in your hair before you started the cut? Thank you so much again. And stay safe.
Love it. that cut looks fabulous on you! ive been looking for a video showing how to shape this length hair and none work for my hair type. yours looks a lot like mine. fingers crossed lol
I don't have a curly specialist anywhere near me and I like my hair short. My god do I have to be insistent to get what I want from them. It generally turns out great (probably because I have 2B/2C hair without a ton of bulk so less shrinkage and risk of triangle head) but my God am I OVER it. I used to do home cuts that looked good other than the back for years just to avoid the drama, especially as I was too shy to be insistent when younger. Yes I know that my hair is "curly"--on the very low spectrum of it outside of the straight hair world. When I wash, finger comb, moisturize and let dry there is basically a wave to it. The curliest it will get is during diffusing but I don't usually heat style. But I KNOW that I LIKE what it looks like short and I find it easier to style and handle. I just don't get it. They will give any straight haired woman a short haircut without arguing, though she is then doomed to daily blow drying and a styling regime (often without fully informing her of this). But they want to argue with me about how they wouldn't cut my hair "this short" because it's "curly". If I am feeling especially lazy I can do a roller set on Sunday and not touch my hair until the following Saturday other than to moisturize it without ever looking not fit to go outside but you don't think that I should have that haircut?? I just got it cut again but though my hair is different than yours, this does encourage me to save this and keep looking around so, come around early February or sometime in January, before the shape grows out, I can start trimming a bit to prolong the time between professional cuts. If I do manage to get the back right one of these days, it's goodbye hairdressers forever (even if I found a specialist).
Also - can you share the styling products you're using? Just before Covid, I started using Deva Curl products. Just wondering what other curly hair ladies are using and your's looks terrific.
Colleen Hall i highly highly recommended u do it dry. that’s the easiest way to tell how it’s gonna look when it’s dry, rather then wet. cutting it wet can lead to a whole bunch of uneven hair due to shrinkage
Thanks for the tips, love your hair! Tomorrow I'll sharpen my scissors and go for those layers Edit: it went very well. Cut a bit too much but the shape is perfect, thanks
@@curlycathi434 Thanks so much for the immediate response Cathy :) I appreciate it. Mine is fine low density so I'll make necessary adjustments. Thank you for this demo :)
Thank you so much for this video! When I tell my hairdresser I want to get rid of the bulk, I'm not sure she understands. But with this video I hope I can make my hair look the way I want myself!

I love that this is a “shape-up” tutorial!! You totally get the “bulk” and “shelving” I am always dealing with! Thank you!

woah the way you cut without hesitation ! i could never lol thanks for the tutorial ♥ ♥
I just came back from the salon with a not so great haircut, so I'll be doing this next time.
I also do not agree with most modern hair products they use in the hair saloon. A lot of them are simply not healthy.
I'm a stylist and this was an awesome tutorial for beginners. 👌🏾
those are some really beautiful curls. lovely hair. cant do much wrong with it.

Oh I am so trying this this weekend. So many hair tutorials do blunt cuts which also gives the christmas tree/hair pyramid.
Did you do it ? I am scare to try it lol
How do you cut the length, Cathi, when it does get too long??

My hair is exactly the same as your hair ! Exactly the same triangle hair problem !
Also - can you share the styling products you're using? Just before Covid, I started using Deva Curl products. Just wondering what other curly hair ladies are using and your's looks terrific.
I mix it up a lot! I use Cantu curl activator (a tiny bit) and aussie instant freeze gel a lot. Love Camille rose curl and ecoslay too.
@@curlycathi434 thanks! And do you use cantu & aussie gel products together or separately?
Don’t use Deva co-wash, it’s bad for your hair
Love your video and hair!! I wish my problem was thick hair! Haha My question is would you recommend Point trimming on wavy and curly thin hair?
Only if there’s a “shelf” somewhere in your layers. A spot that seems heavy. And very little light point cuts, not my big cuts.
Does the hair have to be dry when being cut this way? :)
No. Not at all
Love your cat I mean cut! ;)
That’s JJ!

Yes. Very high density, especially on the crown area.

have done this before? or is this your first time doing a hair cut???
Love love love it❤️
Yeah. Now I feel like I can buy some product.
How do i cut if i want super short like 4inches long? Cuz i wanna donate hair, its too long and its too hot outside lol
Put it in a ponytail at the lower back near your neck and cut that off. Save in the ponytail.
The continue with your cut!!!
Awesome thanks!!
Edward scissorhands couldn´t have done it better.
❤
I've always left the salon with a Christmas tree :/

Yikes at the big chunk you cut out at the back 😬 thank the good lord curly hair is so forgiving.
Yikes!
